Favourite patterns week: 1. Stylearc Bonnie skirt (fabric from Spotlight) and Papercut solar tee. 2. Treasurie cap sleeve top and Clo bias skirt (both fabrics from Miss Maude) 3. Treasurie Cap sleeve top (gingham from Spotlight) and Megan Nielsen Opal pants (Nerida Hansen fabric from Miss Maude) 4. Treasurie Cap sleeve top and Opal pants (viscose and triacetate both from The Fabric store) 5. Papercut patterns solar tee and Stylearc Tully pants (linen from the Fabric Store) I sewed up the Tiger top in 1 hour last night - so fast! I cheated a bit with the Stylearc pants, but it gives me a chance to compare this pattern with Megan Nielsen's opal pants. I purchased the Tully pants first, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I love these pants and have worn them a lot. The linen is so perfectly soft. However, if I had to choose between the Tully and the Opal, the Opal would win hands down, for multiple reasons. These include: 1.The Opal has so many options (I've also made shorts) 2. Stylearc instructions are incredibly sparse. Megan Nielsen instructions are great. 3. Personally as someone with a very big gap between their waist and hips, the rise in the Opal pants is longer and fits me better. I went on a wonderful cycle tour of Guangzhou this afternoon and the weather was perfect. In fact my @papercutpatterns #solarsweater didn't stay on as it was sunny and warm. I wore my linen @sewliberated #arenitepants and they were so comfortable and the cuff meant no trouser leg flapping in the bike chain! Luxe Loungewear 🙋‍♀️ it’s only taken almost a year for me to fully embrace dressing down and finally joined the loungewear sewing party! . And I’ll admit, this whole outfit was a very deliberate choice. When I seen the images of the new @papercutpatterns patterns collections there was an image of the new Tula pants and Solar top made in a beaut grey fabric and I knew I needed that combo in my life and et voilà, here’s my version. Fabric is a mid weight jersey from @good_fabric_store which I thought might have been a little heavier, so it’s possibly just a bit light for the bottoms but perfect for the top. Having said that, they are possibly the most comfortable thing I’ve ever made. I might not be able to wear them out the house as I’d hoped but really what does that matter these days 😂 . Another make complete! A nice, simple #solarsweater (previously named kyoto sweater) by @papercutpatterns. A lovely warm version with italian winter weight knitted cotton from @wattlehillfabrics. Adjustments: - Shortened the sleeves by 3.5" to allow for a double height cuff. - Shortened the length of the cuff by 1" to lock in the warmth 😅 - Shortened the bodice by 2" and increased the hem band height by 2" (so a 1" shortened sweater overall). Another Papercut and The Fabric Store pairing. One of my most favourite patterns is the @papercutpatterns solar tee/sweater (formerly the kyoto). I had previously made a rise and fall turtleneck out of this dreamy zq merino from @wearethefabricstore and had a little spare (even though I bought the suggested amount). I managed to squeeze this whole top out of the leftovers!!! I have 2 more turtlenecks to make so I may end up with 2 more solar tees on top...value!! Another day, another @atelierbrunette make 🙋🏻‍♀️ I swear for someone who was trying to transition away from prints, I’m sewing with an awful lot of them lately! I think it’s because the weather is changing and maybe I don’t want to spend 100% of my time in all black everything! . When I knew this fabric was coming to the UK, I messaged Jenny at @stitch_and_stash_uk to ask if she would be getting stock and luckily it was en route and she offered to keep some aside for me. It’s the new Neroli Sweatshirting in Midnight and it’s the dreamiest. Lighter weight than usual sweatshirting which makes it a lot better for this time of year. I was tempted by the matching ribbing but decided to keep it simple and use the same for the neckband. . This is another @papercutpatterns Solar Top which is firmly becoming a fave of mine. I’m not taking part in this year’s #memademay21 cause even though you set your own challenge there’s so much going on at the moment I’m pretty much getting up in the morning and putting on the first thing I find 😂 however, I know that I’ve got so many me made items in rotation at the moment that the likelihood is I’ll be wearing them at some point! . It needs to be jersey I’m happy with so I always have the fear when I order any either in fabric or RTW. However, I cannot tell you how happy I am with the weight and drape of this jersey. An out and about shot in some older me mades that I've never worn together, despite them being made out of the same fabric. I was aiming for a lux leisure suit vibe, but perhaps I ended up with a PJ's one instead! The fabric is a gorgeous lightweight looped back sweatshirt or French Terry in a blue marl and the patterns are both @papercutpatterns - the renamed Solar Tee/Sweater and the Anima pants. The fabric and patterns means they're perhaps bigger and slouchier than I would like, but they are so very comfortable and nice to put together new outfits 😊. It's been a while since I sewed for myself. I wanted some basics I could achieve in a day to give me a sense of completion before going back to the jeans! 1. Papercut Solar Tee (at least the 10th one I've made) in a thick navy cotton elastane I bought on sale from The Fine Cloth Company.#papercutsolar #thefineclothcompany. I was in need of a navy top. 2. A black merino blend Papercut rise turtleneck. The merino I grabbed from the Fabric shop when I was in Auckland about 18 months ago. #papercutriseandfall #thefabricshop. I already have a black merino turtleneck but I wear it to death so wanted another. This is the 4th version of this pattern I've made. 3. This is a new pattern to me - The Sewhouse Seven Skyline Tee. This is a beautiful fushcia viscose knit I bought heavily discounted from Soptlight. I made the jewel neck gathered sleeve version. Very straight forward pattern, lots of options and it fits really well. #skylinetee #spotlightstores. These were all sale fabrics so this is one of those rare occasions when making my own clothes was definitely cheaper than buying them!

Close up of my favorite detail of the @papercutpatterns #solarsweater : the drop shoulder!! I love this style for comfort and avoiding fitting stress. All my favorite cozy sweaters have a drop like this so there will be plenty more. . . The bamboo sweatshirt fleece from @stylemakerfabrics is sooo soft and I loved working with the matching ribbing! It definitely gives the garment a more polished look. . For a more slouchy look with leggings, I lengthened the bodice by 2" and the sleeves by .5". . . Next time I will work on reducing the wavy seams by not stretching the fleece. Or is this when you change the differential feed on the serger?? Lmk if you know :) . Oh! Another papercut Solar Tee specifically to go with this Zamora skirt. I have a paper version of this pattern cut into one size from back when it had a different name. As you can see from the drag lines the neck/chest is too big for me, but it's comfy and easy to sew and I don't want to buy another copy! Other than the Style Arc Bonnie skirt, which I would class as intermediate due to the buttons and sparse instructions, they are all great beginner patterns. This lovely bamboo knit feels really good against the skin in this top with a frill on the sleeve #papercutsolar .The fabric is a Jocelyn Proust design from Spotlight. I'm not sure why but the sleeves were very long on me which is unusual as I have ape arms! Maybe the weight of the bamboo? Do you like sewing with bamboo. Have you had this issue with this pattern?

Finally, some summer sewing on the grid! And because I’m all about the comfies still, it’s another Solar Tee but with short sleeves. . I picked up 1m of this stripe jersey from @fabricgodmother last month to bulk out an order I placed for some linen. It’s a perfect t-shirt weight cotton jersey and the rust colour striped are the exact colour I could have hoped for (hands up who else never finds the colour is 100% what you expected when you open your delivery?!). It was a dream to sew so I could just about forgive the rolling cut edges! . I’ve found that the grown on style sleeve of the Solar Tee is a shape that I really like, with quite broad shoulders, I hate when a t-shirt armscye doesn’t hit where it should, but no danger here. Quickest sew ever!! I started this sweater on Sunday (my lovely hubby gave me a couple of hours without the kids so I could spend a bit of time on my hobby), and finished it off in a couple of kids' naps!! Best of all, I made it from offcuts from a previous project, and a remnant pack from @wattlehillfabrics! The fabric is a luxurious Italian knitted cotton. Super soft and wonderfully warm! The pattern is the kyoto sweater/tee by @papercutpatterns (renamed to the solar tee/sweater). I made a few adjustments due to the cuts of fabric I had to work with which ultimately meant longer cuffs (hem and sleeve). I didn't bother with the ruffles this time around, which probably explains the swiftness of the project. I also tightened the cuffs so they keep the warmth in!! Another day, another @papercutpatterns Solar Tee! Told ya I had another one cut out ready to make. . I think it might be the perfect t-shirt pattern for me (did I already mention that?!) both in terms of style/fit but also how quick and straight forward it is to sew. I was talking about it in work the other day and it’s literally 6 seams, 3 hems and a neckband. Also fun fact, I used to refuse to do put in jersey neckbands until I started making these tee’s 😂 . Fabric is more of the Tencel jersey from @good_fabric_store, the colour is so rich and the drape is amazing. It’s the closest thing to silk jersey I’ve ever come across and it behaves slightly better than viscose jersey.
