The marnie swimsuit 🩱💦
In my quest for a cute and classic one piece, I came across the marnie swimsuit by @papercutpatterns. There were no posts coming up in the hashtag, so I'll try to give you as much info as I can about my experience 🤗
I absolutely love the cut of the suit! I made the low back high cut view and it's comfy yet cute. I ended up shortening the straps, and as a result, the top comes up higher on me than the photos do in the pattern listing. I also love how it's totally activity proof - I've worn it to harvest shellfish, climb beach stairs, swim, play with my kids...everything stays in place.
The only thing I would do different next time is change up the construction method. Even though you can use swim lining, it's finished like a reversible swimsuit (not my favourite tbh). I trimed the lining to mitigate this but after wearing the suit all day, the lining shows on the lower back. Next time I'll change up the construction method and fold over the two layers, topstitching with my coverstitch. Over all I'm happy that I know have a more activity friendly suit 💦
Pattern: @papercutpatterns #marnieswimsuit, size 3
Fabric: swim from @fabricandflow in Viva Los Cabos print
Sewing details:
- I shortened the back straps by 1 3/8" as I felt like the straps were too far forward for my comfort levels
- I used a nylon swim lining for a lining. Even though I trimmed the lining by 1/8" around the openings, the lining still rolled out along the upper back over the course of the day (maybe because it's got less of a recovery than my swim fabric?). I'll definitely be topstitching around the openings to keep things in place. Next time, I'll line it with a swim fabric or powermesh and maybe try a different finishing method.
