Another self draft, in a bedsheet I got from the salvation army in Levin. I need to take this apart and put it back together, the bodice is just too long and I want to do the fabric justice. Made with #s9041 in another fabric gifted from a friend. I Love this dress, but I need a silkier slip to wear with it as the fabric is so light and catches on itself easily. Next is a @tammy.handmade #rheadress in a clearance duvet cover from the warehouse. I adore this dress, but I accidentally cut into it with my overlocker 😭 so I need to mend that. The shirt is #s9646 in a double cloth from @spotlightstores. I love love love this shirt, it's giving major pirate shirt vibes. Next is the #avidseamstressblouse in a rayon from, again, @spotlightstores. I cannot express enough how much I loved making this pattern, it was a lovely experience. Up next is two more daisy skirts, in a shorter length. Left is in a satin from @spotlightstores and the right is in a rayon from Pete's Emporium. Love these skirts, easy make. San Francisco flowers in a Lulee dress 💕🌸 . I couldn’t be more in love with my new #luleedress by @papercutpatterns I had a vision of a full length dress split down the middle using two different colourways of my San Francisco flowers print, one yellow and one black. When I spotted the Lulee I knew she was the one for the job! The print is so vibrant you almost can’t tell it’s two different base colours but I think that is what makes this dress so special. A little bit of quirky but still very wearable. . I also get stuck making summer things all year long because I love summer dresses so much! Love love loveee my newest make - the Lulee top (hacked) from @papercutpatterns 💙 I love the tie detail at the back, as well as the billowy sleeves that puff just the right amount. Making my own top meant that I could adjust the hem length to exactly where I wanted it to sit, lengthening it by 4” so it lands just at my hip line - something I struggle to find with RTW tops. One thing I still need more practice on is sewing bias binding - I can’t work out how to keep the stitches straight! 📏 Honestly the design is totally impeccable; I can’t even tell it’s handmade (unless you zoom in really closely and notice a few sewing flaws but no one’s gonna do that, right? 😜) Fabric is herringbone linen-rayon suiting from @wearethefabricstore , which I also used for the Clo Bias Skirt as detailed in my previous post. 🧵🎽💙 #papercutpatterns #wearethefabricstore #luleedress #luleedresshack #luleetop #sewingaddict #sewingproject #homesewing

Finally finished my newest make. It’s the @papercutpatterns #luleedress made from the most beautiful satin I picked up from Tomato in Tokyo. While this was a fairly straightforward pattern and the fabric was easy to work with it was my first attempt at a bias skirt. I’ve always been told to be careful when making things on the bias but my goodness this really stretched every time I even looked at it. After a lot of pressing (and hanging it for about a week before hemming) I think the end result is pretty great. I’m especially impressed with the bias tape around the keyhole back as that is laying quite flat on the first attempt. So confident in my test pattern that I might never toile again 😅 Combining the Lulee Dress by @papercutpatterns and the Freya Dress by @veronicatuckerthelabel was the biggest experiment in pattern hacking and grading I've ever done. I made the Lulee bodice and skirt in a size 5, graded to a 6 in the bust and hips. The original Lulee sleeves are adorable, but I wanted something a little different, so I switched them out for the 3/4 puff sleeves from the Freya. I finished this hours before leaving for a friend's wedding and can't believe I was able to wear my little experiment for her special day. The sleeves, the waist, the skirt, the tie back, ugh! I can't wait to fill my closet with more iterations of both these dresses. Last year I made this @papercutpatterns #luleedress to wear to our nephew’s wedding. I used a very soft linen sheet in a natural colour for the main fabric. The bottom sheet had worn through but the top sheet was still very good and such a large piece of linen so I dyed it green for reuse. I was very happy with the result but didn’t get to photograph it when I wore it to the wedding so got some quick snaps outside a florist on this Winter’s outing.

It’s a batwing top and I made it from fabric purchased from a chalky digits sale in black and white stripes. The skirt is a @papercutpatterns #luleedress in a vintage fabric that was originally a big floor length dress that I deconstructed to make the skirt.

🖤 Lulee Top Hack 🖤 I loved the construction and pretty back detail of the Lulee dress so much that I decided to make a top version. I replaced the bias skirt for a short, gathered skirt and reduced all waist darts so that I could get the top on and off without a side zip. This black and white mini tartan cotton gave the top the volume and structure that I was aiming for. I love it! Work today was in my newly finished bias skirt , fabric from The Fabric Store. Pattern started from the #luleedress skirt piece but heavily modified and elastic in the waist copied from a rtw skirt. My side seams were nice and flat until I finished the edges and suddenly got a bit ripply so need to research some tips and tricks before making more. Sleeveless!! Whodis, are we doing sleeveless now?! I alway wear sleeves but when I saw the Lulee top hack.. I had to try it! Lulee dress I made this version as a wearable toile. It was such a lovely fit and I can’t wait to make it with the fabric set aside (when I have the time!!!) The bias skirt helps keep it lovely and fitted and the top part can be dressed up and down. Super versatile! It looked pretty good straight from the pack (only a few tweaks needed, so I was brave (or reckless!) and cut out a size 3 using a good linen 🙈 & fitted & adjusted as I sewed. The bodice is mostly a size 2 graded into a size 3 full length bias skirt without the centre seam. The sleeves are mid way between short and long length. It was my original intention to make a final version for Frocktails but I was happy enough with this dress, so didn’t see the point. I added a long wide sash for a bit of waistline drama. Ich habe mir die letzten Tage ein absolutes Lieblingsteil genäht. Als Lara @1000stoff diesen tollen Ikat Cotton von @merchantandmills nachbestellen konnte, wusste ich sofort, diesmal schlage ich zu und ich nähe mir einen #biasskirt daraus, einen Rock, der im schrägen Fadenlauf zugeschnitten wird. Ich habe mich für den #luleeskirt von @papercutpatterns entschieden. Das #luleedress habe ich schon genäht und liebe es. Hier gezeigt habe ich es noch nicht, aber das hole ich nach. Im Schnitt enthalten ist die Möglichkeit, ein Rock und ein Oberteil zu nähen. Da ich von der Passform des Kleides so überzeugt bin, habe ich mich für diesen tollen Stoff für den Rockschnitt entschieden. Er wird im schrägen Fadenlauf zugeschnitten, was für einen tollen Fall sorgt. An der Seite wird er mit einem nahtverdeckten Reißverschluss geschlossen und es gibt einen Formbund. Da ich das Vorderteil im Bruch zugeschnitten habe, und nicht wie im Schnitt vorgegeben mit Mittelnaht, hatte ich an den Seitennähten zwei cm zu viel. Anstatt in der Seitennaht zu reduzieren, habe ich im hinteren Rockteil zwei Abnäher genäht und bin super zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. This dress shall be known as my Swiftie dress after purchasing the divine linen from Tessuti on my recent trip to Melbourne for the Eras Tour. It’s called Portofino Bliss and is currently available for preorder. The 100% painted floral linen was an absolute delight to sew and I think the @papercutpatterns #luleedress is the perfect pattern to showcase the colours and the print. I sewed this dress last weekend while on a sewaway with friends in a size 4/5 after trying on a version which was already made by @sarahunpicked. It was a straightforward pattern to make and the bias cut skirt is something different for me too. The keyhole back and the side zip are a neat way to finish the bodice. Papercut Lulee 🎨 I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy this beautiful rayon viscose crepe from @wearethefabricstore and an invite to a wedding was the perfect reason! I used the #papercutlulee which didn’t go entirely to plan, but I tried to make it work! I made it in a size 3 bodice, graded to a 4/5 skirt according to my measurements…. Which would be fine if I stuck to the fabric recommendation on the pattern 😆 The fabric wasn’t stretchy but it had a lot of ‘give’ and I think the fabric pieces really stretched out… in the end I didn’t even need a zip. I made a few tweaks and ended up really liking the finished product 😊 I added elastic to the sleeves instead of the band, and then shortened the bodice by around 2cm. Foxglove linen Papercut lulee dress for Xmas. I love this dress, I graded between a size 3 on top and a 4 from my hips. Really happy with the fit, the invisible zip on the side definitely isn't installed perfectly but otherwise was a pretty straight forward sew. I love the cut of the dress with a bias skirt, and the key hole in the back is the perfect size. It is a feature but doesn't expose too much skin. I see more of these in my future! One of the perks of working for @fabricgodmother is seeing all the new fabrics before they launch. I have been lusting after this Enri viscose crepe for a very long time, I love the bold print, and the viscose is so lovely to work with and drapes beautifully. This is the @papercutpatterns Lulee skirt. The pattern is great and comes with so many options: Long dress, short dress, top, short skirt, or long skirt. I opted for the long skirt as it’s perfect for spring and summer, but it can also be styled with tights for cooler weather. The skirt is bias-cut but has centre front, back, and side seams, so the smaller panels take up less fabric than a standard bias-cut garment. My main pet peeve with bias-cut garments is the fabric wastage due to the 45-degree grainline. When I saw this amazing black linen with rainbow pinstripes from @maaidesign I knew I had to have it! The fabric was my Christmas present and I didn’t waste much time turning it into the @papercutpatterns Lulee dress. I wanted to use the stripes as a design feature. The bodice is cut on grain and the skirt is cut on the bias. I managed to line up the centre front and centre back seams so the stripes form a chevron pattern. The side zip gives a super neat finish and I love the large keyhole at the back. Once I figured out how to cut the pattern to get the stripe directions I wanted, it was a fairly speedy dress to sew. Let’s pretend that I rang in the New Year in my Lulee dress, sipping cocktails somewhere glamorous, rather than rather than drinking prosecco on the couch and going to bed at 10:30 after a weekend of looking after my gastro-ridden toddler… the Lulee dress was my last completed project for 2023, and it was a very enjoyable one. I used this lovely large scale rayon print from Drapers, and I love the way it looks with the bias cut skirt and the floofy sleeves. I was a bit worried that the keyhole was going to be too low, but it finished juuust above my bra so that’s great! It’s no secret I’ve got a thing for bias skirts at the moment. After making multiple elastic waist versions, I decided to try one with a waistband & invisible zip for a change, enter the Lulee Skirt. The shape is a bit different to the Clo Bias Skirt, straighter through the sides and fuller & flutier around the hem. On my body, I think I prefer the gentle A line shape of the Clo & I cut it a bit shorter than my usual length 🙈 which might be why I’m a bit ‘meh’ The past year has been the year of the skirt for me, I like being able to add a different top for a whole new look, gives me more options than a dress. New skirt in the closet 💃 I thought I would catch up on some @fabricgodmother dream wardrobes, so decided to sew up this Lulee skirt from @papercutpatterns If I’m being honest, this sew was a bit of a battle! I really struggled to get the fit right, I cut out a size 4 thinking it would be approximately my measurements, but ended up needing to take it in a lot! I do wish I’d cut out a size or two smaller! Now that it’s all made up, it is really comfortable and a lovely skirt to swish around! The fabric is beautiful, very floaty and lovely quality. I’m not sure it is ‘me’. This is the @papercutpatterns Lulee skirt. The pattern is great and comes with so many options: Long dress, short dress, top, short skirt, or long skirt. I opted for the long skirt as it’s perfect for spring and summer, but it can also be styled with tights for cooler weather. The skirt is bias-cut but has centre front, back, and side seams, so the smaller panels take up less fabric than a standard bias-cut garment. My main pet peeve with bias-cut garments is the fabric wastage due to the 45-degree grainline. Sleeveless!! Whodis, are we doing sleeveless now?! I alway wear sleeves but when I saw the Lulee top hack.. I had to try it! I made this from a 50 cm piece of fabric, only needed some pre cut bias tape for the armholes.. I picked a size 3 and I omitted the darts from the bodice, it was sewn together so quickly! Need a matching pair of pants now too I think. Continuing my circular needle , top down knitting journey I’ve now tackled sleeves! Totally love my new #moulinecardigan by @leneholmesamsoe especially with my @papercutpatterns #luleeskirt . I chose this pattern as every single version on the hashtag looked great. Sizes range from XS to 4XL - finished measurements bust 96cm/38” to 151cm/60” - with an intended positive ease of 8-15cm/3-6”. I knitted size XS and have a 34” bust. Instructions are great along with nice little video clips for certain techniques. I used @sandnesgarn Sunday held with Tyn Silk Mohair (both colourway “Almond”) purchased from @knitt_yarns. I've been wanting a cute bias cut skirt for quite a while, and whenever I saw this jacquard cupro from @lyricalfabrics & the #LuleeSkirt from @papercutpatterns I thought they'd be a perfect pair! I didn't want to interrupt the floral pattern on this fabric, so I digitally altered the front & back skirt pieces to have no center seam. Thankfully this fabric was wide enough to accommodate that change, and it was so easy for me to make that change & project it onto my fabric. I love projector sewing! I fortunately had a small piece of this substrate leftover after I made my Elodie dress & figured an Ogden Tank would really showcase the print 😍. I could have gone down a size because the fabric is so soft, but I wanted something loose for the heat. No mods, just adjusted the strap length and split the back due to fabric shortage. Great pattern when you haven’t got much fabric. I pieced bits together for the inner shell. LuLee Skirt , I made the Size 4 based on my hip measurement and graded out for the waist. No fit issues, it’s a beautifully drafted bias skirt (4 panels) . It’s fabric hungry so I just made it in the 1.6M required. I hung overnight & hemmed. It stretched a lot more than my Clo Bias skirts, not sure if that was the fabric or the amount of panels. Involves an invisible zip.. still a learning process for me as mine isn’t quite ‘invisible’. The @australiansewingguild has a tutorial coming up via Zoom ( alas I’m away). Fabric: Well for this post it’s really all about the top. The print is called ‘Yellow Bouquet’ & it’s a very soft double gauze I bought online from Julia Allison Cost Online Boutique & is based on her paintings. Skirt: It’s deep stash stuff & I believe this is a yarn dyed linen. It’s really soft so probably why it stretched a bit when hung. Foxglove linen Papercut lulee dress for Xmas. I love this dress, I graded between a size 3 on top and a 4 from my hips. Really happy with the fit, the invisible zip on the side definitely isn't installed perfectly but otherwise was a pretty straight forward sew. I love the cut of the dress with a bias skirt, and the key hole in the back is the perfect size. It is a feature but doesn't expose too much skin. I see more of these in my future! This month we invited our staff to select their favorite color of Cruise Washed Linen from @LadyMcElroyFabrics and a pattern from the shop to sew a garment of their choice. We'll be sharing all of the garments here in the coming weeks. Be sure to head over to our blog for details about what inspired us, the patterns we used, and how each of our garments took shape. And if you'd like to see our Spotlight garments in person, they are all currently on display in the Berkeley store! Diana made the #PapercutLulee in Cruise Washed Linen – Raspberry. She says, “I increased the seam allowances from 3/8” to 5/8” because I wanted to use French seams. I also found the waistband was significantly shorter than the waist opening and added length to allow the notches for the button and buttonhole extensions to align with the zipper properly. I ran ¾-inch non-roll elastic through the back of the waistband after struggling to get the waistband to lay flat. I generally liked this pattern, but I did find it short on what I’d call “guide notches” that would direct placement. I shortened the length by three inches, as I wanted a more below-the-knee skirt than a grazes-the-ankle look. I also tried a different invisible zipper insertion from Lynda Maynard via Kenneth D. King’s YouTube that involves a little hand basting—I don’t love invisible zippers, so this was a fun little twist. I am a skirt person, but I’m usually drawn to silhouettes with some gathering and relaxed waists, so this fixed-waistband, bias-cut skirt is a bit of a departure. Also, the bold color will be a new one in my closet. The buttonhole tab wrapping to the front is a different detail and I used a fun button from my stash since it gets to be highlighted here. This idea for this dress started with my pair of @concretejellyfishco earrings. I loved the neon yellow and it hadn’t occurred to me that a neon yellow dress was missing from my wardrobe so I set about fixing that. I bought the daisy organza from @spotlightstores along with a bottle of @ritdye in neon yellow. I also bought white poplin for slip, and then put it all in my big dye pot. This was the first time I’ve dyed something so followed all of the tips on the Rit website (very helpful) and loved the outcome. For the bodice of the dress I used the @papercut Lulee dress and omitted the front and back waist darts. I then added 2 tiers to finish the skirt. FYI - it’s all French seamed, and I’m so proud of it 😍. The slip is the @stylearc Kingsley dress. No alterations and very easy to make. First garment sew of 2025. This is my wearable toile of the @papercutpatterns Lulee dress. First big error was buying the ‘curve’ pattern. My measurements put me at the first size but boy that bodice was so huge and blousy. It took 4 bodice redrafts/remakes to come up with a better fit. Hats off to pattern drafters! The rest was straightforward thank goodness and I even managed a fairly decent invisible zip. The skirt is a fabric hog with 4 panels cut on the bias hence the fabric choice. This was the only piece in my stash big enough and not too ‘precious’ to sacrifice for a toile. I think it was originally intended for pyjamas. Not sure where I would wear this but it’s good to have a sewing challenge occasionally. Papercut Lulee 🎨 I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy this beautiful rayon viscose crepe from @wearethefabricstore and an invite to a wedding was the perfect reason! I used the #papercutlulee which didn’t go entirely to plan, but I tried to make it work! I made it in a size 3 bodice, graded to a 4/5 skirt according to my measurements…. Which would be fine if I stuck to the fabric recommendation on the pattern 😆 The fabric wasn’t stretchy but it had a lot of ‘give’ and I think the fabric pieces really stretched out… in the end I didn’t even need a zip. I made a few tweaks and ended up really liking the finished product 😊 I added elastic to the sleeves instead of the band, and then shortened the bodice by around 2cm. When I saw this amazing black linen with rainbow pinstripes from @maaidesign I knew I had to have it! The fabric was my Christmas present and I didn’t waste much time turning it into the @papercutpatterns Lulee dress. I wanted to use the stripes as a design feature. The bodice is cut on grain and the skirt is cut on the bias. I managed to line up the centre front and centre back seams so the stripes form a chevron pattern. The side zip gives a super neat finish and I love the large keyhole at the back. Once I figured out how to cut the pattern to get the stripe directions I wanted, it was a fairly speedy dress to sew. Let’s pretend that I rang in the New Year in my Lulee dress, sipping cocktails somewhere glamorous, rather than rather than drinking prosecco on the couch and going to bed at 10:30 after a weekend of looking after my gastro-ridden toddler… the Lulee dress was my last completed project for 2023, and it was a very enjoyable one. I used this lovely large scale rayon print from Drapers, and I love the way it looks with the bias cut skirt and the floofy sleeves. I was a bit worried that the keyhole was going to be too low, but it finished juuust above my bra so that’s great! I’m definitely going to make a winter version of this dress this year too, I think it’d be a dream in wool crepe. Lulee dress I made this version as a wearable toile. It was such a lovely fit and I can’t wait to make it with the fabric set aside (when I have the time!!!) The Fabric Godmother Dream Wardrobe subscription is always good, but this month was an absolute stunner 🤩 The box contained the @papercutpatterns Lulee dress/skirt pattern, and the fabric was the most gorgeous flowery Ecovero satin called Maggie, and I couldn't wait to sew it. The skirt is cut on the bias and both the front and back pieces are cut as 2, meaning they have a centre and back seam, it has a waistband with butto fastening and a 20cm invisible zip is inserted into one of the side seams. I made the size 4 and graded to a 5 on the hips, I added 3 inches to the length. The fabric is beautiful but as a satin it's slippery and being cut on the bias it does tend to shift around so it does made it a little tricky to sew, having said that if you take your time and use lots of pins it's lovely to sew and I found it to be quite a quick make. The skirt has a lovely swish and is perfect for summer, but equally, I can see this making an autumn/winter staple paired with a cosy jumper and boots. This dress shall be known as my Swiftie dress after purchasing the divine linen from Tessuti on my recent trip to Melbourne for the Eras Tour. It’s called Portofino Bliss and is currently available for preorder. The 100% painted floral linen was an absolute delight to sew and I think the @papercutpatterns #luleedress is the perfect pattern to showcase the colours and the print. I sewed this dress last weekend while on a sewaway with friends in a size 4/5 after trying on a version which was already made by @sarahunpicked. It was a straightforward pattern to make and the bias cut skirt is something different for me too. The keyhole back and the side zip are a neat way to finish the bodice. Foxglove linen Papercut lulee dress for Xmas. I love this dress, I graded between a size 3 on top and a 4 from my hips. Really happy with the fit, the invisible zip on the side definitely isn't installed perfectly but otherwise was a pretty straight forward sew. I love the cut of the dress with a bias skirt, and the key hole in the back is the perfect size. It is a feature but doesn't expose too much skin. I see more of these in my future!
