I made 8 of my 9 #makenine2022 garments this year and I'm pretty pleased with my success! I probably could have done all nine if I hadn't made outfits for both NYC and Philly Frocktails, but it was worth it. ☺️ It was a good year for me for sewing, even if a lot of my makes didn't make it to my grid. I learned how to do FBAs and SBAs, and I got a lot better sewing on a deadline. All in all, I'm pleased. Hello February! It’s time to take a look at the January makes. These are the things I made for myself during the last month. I also made a few things as gifts, but I don’t have pictures of them.. Picture 1: a red viscose #wildergown that I had planned for Christmas, but didn’t have time for. I love it! I hacked the neckline with elastic and I wear it with a leather belt. Picture 2: a washed linen #v9347 that I put a lining into. I took the picture before I put the buttons on it, but they are in now. Fabric from the lovely @kjolesenteret Picture 3: my first #toastersweater , and I am totally in love with this. It is so nice and warm, and I just snuggle up in it. I made in a petrol isoli from @selfmade_com Picture 4: My first #nikkotop , and I’ll be making more. This was made in a viscose jersey from @selfmade_com

Obligatory shot of my me-made dresses in a hotel wardrobe. Makes me smile every time. We are in the most striking hotel in Monaco, it’s beautiful. I want to come back, and back……😉 Just one question to hotel room designers. Why oh why are wardrobes regularly too short to hang my dresses? I’m not very tall, and these dresses are not floor length, yet many are too long for the wardrobe. This is something that niggles me, and is far from unusual. I can only conclude that men design hotel wardrobes. 🤔🤭 PS. Can I just add that my greatest source of frustration in hotel rooms is when there’s a mirror 🪞 at one end of the room, and a plug 🔌 at the other, and your hairdryer just won’t reach. Weekend fix… As much as I have come to love slow sewing - sometimes after agonising over fitting issues and relearning skills like buttons and zips - I just crave a simple sew. So I still haven’t done the buttons on my last top - but inspired by the lovely sewing experience with that rayon fabric from @spotlightstores - and by the magnificent vibrant blue and pink colour-way (not anywhere near what I would usually be attracted to) in a top I bought from @max_stylelived when last in NZ - I got this glowing ‘dogwood flower’ from the same #spotlightstores fujiette rayon range which screamed ‘gathers and big sleeves’. Pattern is a #sewingpatternhack mash-up of patterns in the stash and previous makes - there are so many #peasantblouse / gathered neck raglan variations out there from the Big 4 such as #b4685 #newlook6471 #simplicity8600 which I’ve made already and various others popular on my feed for inspiration such as #wildergown and #herontop and it’s such an easy pattern to make variations to. What is your favourite go to for a quick sewing fix ?? I usually make this style with a front facing / slit and put elastic in the neck channel but self-fabric ties attached to the ends of the elastic and secured in place near the opening (see last photo) for a comfortable fit that stays in place…. #memademaybutmakeitweird Day 23: You Sew for the plot. This outfit was made for a specific Safari themed event at our Zoo last year. I had just finished watching “1923” and wanted to do a British 1920s safari outfit, but then when the time came, I decided I hated the theme and wore a hunter green knit dress with the jacket instead. 😕 Since then I’ve worn the jacket (@stylapatterns #stylatahoe made from @stonemountainfabric stretch denim) and the top (@fridaypatterncompany #wildergown made from white linen from @joann_stores) repeatedly but I never wore the skirt (@simplicity_creative_group #s9924 view B made from @stonemountainfabric @ladymcelroyfabrics fabric). ME MADE MAY Day 30- A busy and buzzy weekend planned. A quick trip to the garden centre to spruce the tiny garden, third pic is me standing front of the rhododendrons. Today is a mash up dress. I tried the #m7969 but I couldn’t get the fit right and it was giving me nightdress vibes. So ot sat crumbled until this week when I took it in hand. I cut the sleeves off, I added side panels to the bodice and I then added the bottom half of the beloved #wildergown by @fridaypatterncompany I had two colorways of the amazing @riflepaperco floral in mint and coral. I played Tetris to get the bodice out of the piece I had. The first tier was made by cutting the piece I had in two pieces, and the second tier by cutting the piece I had in 3 pieces. The sleeves, tie and pockets were cut from the next piece I had. Super fun challenge and I love the dress! I am going silver! 🩶🤍 I currently have natural ghost roots! Chelsea is planning to share some maternity styles later this week, so we're throwing it back to when Paige was pregnant and the patterns she wore during that time! ⁠ ⁠ 1. The #SagebrushTop dress hack is great for a growing bumps, as it has lots of room whilst still looking cute. Paige made a pink gingham and strawberry print version, and a blue gingham version - both of which she still wears now 3 years on!⁠ 2. The #WilderGown is another great option, and perfect for hot days.⁠ 3. The #IlfordJacket which worked as both a loose shirt dress, and jacket. Paige just sized up when sewing these projects.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ ⁠

An oldie but a goodie… I don’t think I have posted this one on my grid before, just in stories, so here it is in celebration of #sewankarafabric25 This is my second #wildergown made from a cotton Ankara fabric that makes it look like there are more tiers to the dress than there are in reality. I love wearing this dress, I feel like “me” when I have it on. The colours, the volume, the fact that it’s one of a kind. I am lucky to have a few shops in Toronto that carry African textiles, and the shopping experience has always been fun. The shop staff are always enthusiastic in helping me pick my fabrics and let’s just say I have a healthy stash at home. Before I sewed with Ankara for the first time, I nervously asked the shop owner if it was appropriate for me to be making garments from Ankara - I was met with an enthusiastic yes. My next planned sew is a Silversaga Patterns Elsa dress in an orange and purple Ankara. Can’t wait! #sewover50 #sewover50jul #sewover50july

My entry to the #sewfruity25 hosted by @blossomsandwich 🍒🍓🫐 I'm in the UK I started making this a while ago, and realised the print looks like berries, so decided to get it finished in time to enter this challenge This is the Wilder Gown by Friday Pattern Co I made the blouse version with long sleeves, size M. I measured size M in the bust and size L in the waist and hips, but due to the shape of the blouse a straight size M works well for me. I've made a couple of Wilder Gowns before, the dress version, but they haven't aged as well as I would hope. The viscose i used is too heavy in the skirt, and the stitching in the bodice has deteriorated so I'm in the process of refashioning those. For this one, I raised the notches slightly on the centre front because I felt that it was a little too low for me on my previous versions. Next time I would add a couple of centimetres to the frill at the neckline to make it a little more prominent I've had this fabric for at least 5 years. It's a Dashwood viscose. I remember when I first bought it, other people were disappointed with the way the print distorts with the stitching, even when using a Microtex needle. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, but it's quite noticeable to me (and I'm expecting it to be worse after I've washed the blouse). This Wildergown from @fridaypatterncompany is a little bit special — it’s made using all three viscose prints from the Crafts of Tranquillity collection by @craftcottonco. When I was asked to create a sample for CHSI earlier this year, I only had a small amount of each print. The Wildergown turned out to be the perfect pattern to showcase them all in one make ✨ I love how being limited by the amount of fabric pushed me to be more creative — and led to something I probably wouldn’t have thought to do otherwise. I misjudged my energy this weekend! Still working on the #WilderGown I have the bodice and tier two done! Just need to finish the bottom tier. I forgot how finicky the gathering step is! Oof! So far, I’ve managed to add pockets and a sweet broderie Anglaise trim that I picked up in Paris at @lamercerieparisienne to this #WilderGown I’m working on. Really loving how it’s turning out and it’s likely going to be a one-day make as usual!

I made another @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown! This linen/rayon blend is very slippery and tricky so it was more of a challenge than I expected. The gathering gave me grief. I still have the same complaint that I did about the first time I made this, and that’s the neckline wears inconsistently. This linen is much looser than the first linen I made this out of, so the neckline is loosening on its own and the front of the dress is dropping. I may have to put tacks in the neckline to hold the tie in place. I do love the color palette of this dress though and see myself getting a lot of wear out of it. Finally documenting some sewing! I finished the silk slip dress months ago. I lengthened the #simplicity1366 camisole and added a loop in the back to keep the additional scarf. In the picture I tied the scarf around my waist to add a drape to the dress. The sheer floral top is an exaggerated version of the @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown. ☀️🕶️🏺🪡🧵✂️Gosh it’s been a hot few days here in the UK hasn’t it? It’s been too hot to knit and stitch during the day but taking advantage of being up early in the mornings, a dress was cut and sewn before the heat took hold. The fabric (bought last year) is a Viscose Challis Lawn aptly named ‘Greek Plaza’ and the pattern is the Wilder Gown by @fridaypatterncompany The fabric is extremely fine and transparent so I’ve added a lining to the skirt; it was also super slippy to sew which had me muttering to myself more than I’d care to admit. 🤭 Not my most enjoyable project and it’s too big but I love it so will make it again in the next size down. An ancient #wildergown for a Guernsey wedding! I made this when learning to make clothes in lockdown and the fabric was a nightmare for a beginner to sew with - so slippery and this resulted in poor cutting and questionable seams. Finally worn my Friday Pattern Co. The Wilder Gown. Everyone raved about it , but I really wasn’t sure about it on me. So I added elastic to make a waist and also around the neck. My shoulders looked a bit round and wonky (had a broken collar bone) so I added a Zara vest T-shirt that has shoulder pads- much better! Think the fabric came from Fabric Godmother, think it is viscose - I usually only sew with natural fibres! The Palate Cleanser Dress. 🩵 This is the 10th dress of 2024. The previous 9 have, without exception, brought a myriad of challenges and headaches- mostly self inflicted 😳. This project involved……. 1. More than enough fabric 2. A familiar pattern 3. No pattern matching 4. No darts 5. No zips 6. No modifications 7. No trimmings 8. No O Level maths conundrums Which all equal no stress and no thinking. 🥳🥳🥳 This was exactly what I needed before throwing myself into my next project which is going to test me. This lovely sheer fabric is brighter than the photos suggest, and came from @stitch_fabric1 at @thestitchfestival last month. 🥁🥁🥁 …and here she is!!! My #WilderGown by @FridayPatternCompany! I am totally in love with this dress!! To be honest: I have a piece of fabric in my stash that will make a perfect blouse! I did change the tiers just because I had so much fabric, and I wanted to use as much as possible! In total, this is about 4.75m of fabric! Obviously, adding all the extra tiers made the construction of the dress timeous. But, I still ❤️ it and I am sure I am going to wear this regularly!! I had various challenges… First, I burnt the seam on the front, trying to fold the fabric back. I eventually gave up on that idea and simply just overlocked/serged the seam and folded it over. Ironing this fabric truly was a challenge. With a cool iron, it was difficult to get crisp edges and seams. But I ❤️ it! I have used a super soft from @UnionRagFabric for this. I will be honest; I have some more fabric on route to me! Here she is! This is the second @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown I have made. I love how versatile this pattern is. This is definitely a little more dressy and the last one I made is a beach coverup. To maximize my fabric usage and minimize scraps I opted for one longer, slightly more gathered tier. I also added pockets! I was apprehensive about how the tea length would look but I kind of love it. The velvet ribbon is giving more puritan vibes than I envisioned, but that’s totally changeable. I’m not sure what the fabric is, but my best guess is viscose. It’s from Joann fabrics ages ago. Anywho, I love the pattern and I love the dress! This #MeMadeMay I have pledged (@paigejoannaa) to modify and mend existing Friday projects in my wardrobe. Altering the hem lengths, mending worn areas, and modifying things that don't get the love they deserve.⁠ ⁠ 1. The gingham #SagebrushTop dress hack it well loved and needs mending around the neck ties. The length is also too long for me now and I want to shorten it, and use the excess fabric to create a little belt for the waist.⁠ ⁠ 2. The #HughesDress was a labour of love but I just don't wear it! I think I need to shorten the hem slightly and perhaps add some embroidery details to the pocket and neckline to add a little bit of character.⁠ ⁠ 3. The #Wildergown tends to swoop lower at the front for me because I have a small bust, so I need to modify the hem to raist the front a couple of inches, then I think I will wear it more!⁠ ⁠ Do you have anything in your wardrobe that could do with altering or mending? #memademaybutmakeitweird Day 23: You Sew for the plot. This outfit was made for a specific Safari themed event at our Zoo last year. My first version of the @fridaypatterncompany Wilder top! I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and finally sewed it up a few weeks ago. I used a crepe rayon I picked up last year at a @bohofabrics sale and I think it’s a good pairing for the design. The construction is pretty quick and has some clever time saving methods too. I may size down for my next one and do a solid color to better highlight the fun neckline details. Enjoying my #wilderdress by @fridaypatterncompany in this gorgeous lightweight linen room @nickoftimefabric It’s a quick sew for those who like short term projects. Very flowy and comfortable in summer heat. I lengthened the layers just a tad bit to be able to wear to work. The ruffles on the collar are adorable. I chose to stitch the neckties in place so that my ruffles would stay once positioned where I desired. The sizing is very generous (a lot of ease) so be sure to look at the finished measurements. Your main measurement will be your bust (drafted for B cup, 5’5”). Although I’m typically a C cup in patterns (D cup in RTW), I didn’t add to the vertical length of the bodice as suggested. It turned out to be a comfortable fit for me. If you are on the bustier side, I would definitely make a muslin of the bodice just to be sure. There’s a lot to love about this dress. The ruffles, the optional lengths (top, short, midi), woven fabric choices (depending on the look that you are going for), etc. I can’t wait to make several versions. This make is a little different for me than others. My father, who passed away over a year ago had a passion for hummingbirds. He could sit and talk about them for hours. I learned a lot just by sitting and listening to him talk about what he loved so much outside of deer hunting. I’m not sure how I didn’t know about his hummingbird obsession until months before he died. Since then, I’ve been on the hunt for hummingbird fabric that I felt was cute enough to wear. It was a tedious task because I’m very particular. When I came across this fabric, I got excited. It has many of my favorite colors included. And it also feels nice against the skin. I wanted to make something semi-long and flowy. The #wilderdress by @fridaypatterncompany was the perfect choice! The previous version that I made was shorter in a linen fabric, which I love as well. This is a soft but sturdy rayon from @sewleana Choosing a fabric that drapes well gives it a totally different look and I love it. This dress will always be special to me. As I wear it, I’ll be thinking about my dad, who was my biggest cheerleader. I can hear him say, I’m proud of you as he did so many times before. Finally worn my Friday Pattern Co. The Wilder Gown. Everyone raved about it , but I really wasn’t sure about it on me. So I added elastic to make a waist and also around the neck. My shoulders looked a bit round and wonky (had a broken collar bone) so I added a Zara vest T-shirt that has shoulder pads- much better! Think the fabric came from Fabric Godmother, think it is viscose - I usually only sew with natural fibres! Last make of the summer and the perfect day to wear it - sunny with just a little cool breeze to make it billow. Pattern is the Wilder Gown by @fridaypatterncompany hacked just a bit. I cut the sleeve straight down (no taper) and inserted elastic into the cuff to get a little poof. I also didn’t have enough fabric so each tier is only 13” instead of the recommended 19”. Fabric is a rayon dobby from @lyricalfabrics that is amazingly light and soft. They carry a constantly updating shop of deadstock garment fabric which is so great.

Here she is! This is the second @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown I have made. I love how versatile this pattern is. This is definitely a little more dressy and the last one I made is a beach coverup. To maximize my fabric usage and minimize scraps I opted for one longer, slightly more gathered tier. I also added pockets! I was apprehensive about how the tea length would look but I kind of love it. The velvet ribbon is giving more puritan vibes than I envisioned, but that’s totally changeable. I’m not sure what the fabric is, but my best guess is viscose. It’s from Joann fabrics ages ago. Anywho, I love the pattern and I love the dress! The Palate Cleanser Dress. 🩵 This is the 10th dress of 2024. The previous 9 have, without exception, brought a myriad of challenges and headaches- mostly self inflicted 😳. This project involved……. 1. More than enough fabric 2. A familiar pattern 3. No pattern matching 4. No darts 5. No zips 6. No modifications 7. No trimmings 8. No O Level maths conundrums Which all equal no stress and no thinking. 🥳🥳🥳 This was exactly what I needed before throwing myself into my next project which is going to test me. This lovely sheer fabric is brighter than the photos suggest, and came from @stitch_fabric1 at @thestitchfestival last month. 🥁🥁🥁 …and here she is!!! My #WilderGown by @FridayPatternCompany! I am totally in love with this dress!! To be honest: I have a piece of fabric in my stash that will make a perfect blouse! I did change the tiers just because I had so much fabric, and I wanted to use as much as possible! In total, this is about 4.75m of fabric! Obviously, adding all the extra tiers made the construction of the dress timeous. But, I still ❤️ it and I am sure I am going to wear this regularly!! I had various challenges… First, I burnt the seam on the front, trying to fold the fabric back. I eventually gave up on that idea and simply just overlocked/serged the seam and folded it over. Ironing this fabric truly was a challenge. With a cool iron, it was difficult to get crisp edges and seams. But I ❤️ it! I have used a super soft from @UnionRagFabric for this. I will be honest; I have some more fabric on route to me!
