Me Made May Day 9 Quick mirror snap as I rushed to get ready for yet another early medical appointment (and the last for a few weeks thankfully!). I threw on my most recent make and one I’ve been meaning to sew for such a long time - the @fridaypatterncompany Square neck top in a pretty double gauze I bought on my first visit to @higgsandhiggs This was a bit of a wearable toile for me - although absolutely wearable as is - next time I’d size down on the shoulders and neckline to a M as it feels rather loose - also crop it a little more - there is the C/D is a longer length than the A/B cup . Sew Yellow: This is my entry for this year’s #sewyellowforendo25 run by the amazing Jess @sowhatifisew It’s my first Square Neck top by Friday Pattern Company that I chose to make out this 100% cotton Swiss dot fabric in the shade buttercup. I actually won this beautiful fabric last year from @felicity.fabrics ☺️ This pattern was a Christmas advent freebie from @thefoldline Label from @cosyclubhandmade I decided to size up and add some length, but when I’d made it, I needed to cut that off and take it in quite a bit! 😅 This is the c/d cup version, which didn’t need any extra adding. I thought the cropped style might come up a bit small. Anyway, I managed to get a fit that looks good when tucked into black high waist jeans. It would be a good little top for a warm day or something to wear in bed on a stuffy evening. Our temps don’t tend to ever get very hot but it’ll still be sweet for summer. I’d definitely make this pattern again, but will pay attention to the finished sizing a bit more. Finally got pictures of my @fridaypatterncompany Square Neck Top, from May's @indiestitchsubbox I fully intended to do pictures with it on me, but the neck came down way to low for my comfort (yes I was being lazy and didn't make a test one first 🙈 or I would have caught it before cutting into my fabric)....so my dress form is gladly wearing it! The only other adjustment I plan to make besides bringing in the neck is lengthening the top. Good news is I have enough of the techo crepe fabric left from my @indiestitchsubbox to make the needed adjustments and remake it! Made a shirt!! First time making a shirt from a pattern without supervision. This is the square neck top from @fridaypatterncompany and it’s pretty beginner friendly. It was my first time blending between two sizes, sewing with fusible interface, and doing bust darts! All good lessons. This was almost a wearable toile, but I didn’t adjust the neckline size and if I don’t stand perfectly straight you can see down to my navel. 🤪. Another Friday Pattern Company Square Neck Top squeezed from a metre of fabric 😺 I used the selvage edge to create a softly gathered frill using my gathering foot to make the length I wanted as this pattern is cropped. Luckily the pattern repeat allowed for matching, I did my usual tweeks and raised the neckline an inch and cut the hem straight. My final entry into the Sew Together 4 Summer Co-ords Challenge run by @jenleggsews and @sewing_in_spain is this trouser and top set in beautiful Lolita viscose crepe by @fabricgodmother It was very nearly a 3 piece set and soon will be but not by midnight tonight and as I’m going to Festival of quilts I need to get an early night! However, thanks to @stash_hub magic mock-up, you can see what I intend on making and already have cut out. The trousers are what I call the ‘widest wide-legged trousers from Widesville’ (also known as McCall’s M7131). I love the front pleats and elasticated back waistband. Everyone usually mistakes these trousers for a skirt as they’re so wide. The top is a repeat of the Friday Pattern Company Square Neck Top that I made for my first entry to this challenge. This time I used @thespeckyseamstress bias tape on the sleeves, hem and neckline instead of facings and regular hems. This pattern is so versatile as it comes in different bust cup and woven or stretch versions. The top I’ve yet to make is a repeat of the Josephine top from the set by Closet Core Crew. It will have a centre front seam that is not on the pattern as I was using up the remnants. I don’t mind that though and I think 3 garments from 3.5m is pretty good. I used some remnants from my fabric stash to whip up the jersey version of the @fridaypatterncompany #fridaypatterncompanysquarenecktop I made the large size based on the finished measurements and it’s a boxy top but I think I need to size down as it’s quite oversized. I didn’t have enough striped fabric for the length hence why it has a white neck facing and a band for the waist but I quite like the band. I’m toying with maybe making a woven version but I’ll see - I want to make a trouser co-ord set so it depends if I’ve enough fabric. It came together quickly - cut out and sewn in a couple of hours. I haven’t made woven tops in a while, so when the #SewAprilBlouse23 challenge was announced, it was the perfect opportunity to dive into my stash of woven blouse patterns. I decided to start with a simple pattern and make a couple of tops from the pattern. I made the @FridayPatternCompany #squarenecktop in a handkerchief linen from @fabricstorecom Fit Adjustments: Chose a size S at the bust, graded to M at the hem but realized I needed more at the back. Added 5/8” to the side seams at the back Changed the angle of the bust dart to point an inch higher Construction: I wanted to use french seams all over but wasn’t sure if the facing seams would turn out too thick, so I serged the facing and the neck seams, but used french seams on the sides.

My Friday Pattern Company Square Neck Top is done! It is a nice simple pattern using techniques I’ve used before. Day 10: first time on the grid and my newest make, today I’m wearing a #fridaypatterncompanysquarenecktop and rtw jeans with a modified #blackwoodcardigan - some details about the Square Neck Top since I haven’t posted them before: size M, only modification was to raise the neckline 1” for this drapey viscose crepe (see final photo for a detail of the color and texture).
