I’ve finally decided to get in on one of the yearly sewing challenges to have something to work towards whenever I’m in need of a project to keep my hands busy. #memademay day 24. I missed yesterday but I’m making up for it today with a Twofer! Thanks to @joemunro5 for being a good sport, even though he hates the camera! I told him to give me his best catalogue modelling vibes and I think he nailed it 😉🤩 Joe is wearing the #ilfordjacket by @fridaypatterncompany that I made him for his birthday in January (details a bit further back on my grid) with his new #jedediahpants from @threadtheorydesigns. They were made in a lovely stretch cotton drill from @spotlightstores - I love this fabric! I made the leg of the pants straighter and wider by gradually grading out to the largest size from the hip to the hem. Apart from that I didn’t make any other alterations. I’m wearing previously documented makes - #smittenjacket by @patternemporium_kate in stretch denim from @spotlightstores and #sewliberatedchanterellepants from @sewliberated in black cotton/linen blend from @backstreetbargains. My tee shirt is a new make this month and is my second #florenceboxytee tee from @sizemesewing made in a gorgeous drapey viscose knit that was an end of roll from @thefabricwarehousewgtn a couple of years ago. I love this pattern! I like to have three styles of basic tee on my wardrobe, boxy, slightly fitted short sleeve and slightly fitted long sleeve - this will now be my go to boxy tee, I don’t need to look any further! 🌺 Wedding Ready 🌺 I decided to sew this up last minute for the most beautiful family wedding. This gorgeous viscose has been sitting in my stash for over a year and I wanted to make sure I did it justice! And I’m hoping I did 🤞 This is my V9311 and the first time sewing a vogue pattern. It was such a simple sew, but I’m in love with the final dress 🥰 I sewed view B but without sleeves, in a size 12 and didn’t have to make any alterations, except raising the neckline by 10cm. Make 9 2024 My machines and sewing gear are all neatly packed away until we make the move from London to Glasgow at the start of Feb so in the meantime, I'm making plans! 2021 was the last time I created a make 9 and I ended up making four of them that year and another two since then. It must be about time I shared this #m7908 jumpsuit that I have worn all holidays and has travelled to chch and back with me and has been through several iterations while still not having any belt fastenings. Good things take time. It started with short sleeves but when I tried to wear it the sleeves were so restrictive I had to take them off. Without sleeves the jumpsuit is possibly the most comfy thing I own. I have tried it with merino, tshirts and puffy blouses throughout the holidays and I love it. In the second week I decided a belt was a good idea so added loops but m still waiting on some buckles to arrive in the mail. Sizing, made a 14 (?!) as per measurements and I feel it is a bit big as the big four patterns usually are. Took the shoulders in a little and the waist and hips but left it loose for comfort. Also shortened rise by 2cm. Made in a black stretch denim from @wearethefabricstore with dark grey topstitching thread. Worn with #roscoeblouse in white cotton and new #ilfordjacket in black and white check wool mohair then in last few photos with my new merino #adrienneblouse @fridaypatterncompany which I really love. Will show blouse separately. Going into 2023, I feel more focused in many areas of my life, and that includes my plans for sewing my #memade wardrobe. I have been pretty hopeless with posting this May. But I knew it wouldn't be easy to keep up. Safe to say I have worn memades every day... as I do nearly every day anyway. Here are some of the things I've worn on days I didn't post. Starting top left going clockwise: Kinjarling dress, fabric - viscose ( anniversary party) Lark tee, fabric - striped ponte Molly tee, fabric - cotton spandex; ash curve jeans, fabric - stretch denim, Ilford shacket, fabric - brushed flannel. Oooh I’m so excited! After feeling a bit overwhelmed with my pattern and fabric stash my sew-jo had ebbed somewhat, so I decided to shop my stash and try to do a #makenine2024 to get inspired again. Can’t wait to get cracking! Super chuffed I’m using so much of my #secondhand stash too ♻️ BUT what it has highlighted to me is, whilst part of my reason for shopping second hand is to be more sustainable and not over consume, I have definitely built a bigger fabric and pattern stash than I realistically need. My latest Jenny pants are already in heavy rotation and I’ve been meaning to make a little post about the side seams on this pattern. I love everything about this pattern including the zipper insertion method. I made a tiny change regarding the side seams. The seam allowance at the sides is 1” which is so you can get a lapped side zipper in there. Then the pattern calls for the whole seam to be pressed open. However I much prefer the strength and ease of having my seams overlocked together and pressed to the back normally and didn’t fancy 1” seams flapping about. So although I hate cutting into the seam allowance, there’s so much space I chopped in just under the fly by 1/2” (added a little fray check for extra security) so I could trim the seams upto the zipper and in this case I pressed towards the front. My top 9 liked projects for 2024. Themes: Jeans. I discovered I love jeans with darts and don't enjoy fitting or wearing very rigid denim with no darts. I loved the papercut Sera and Chalk and notch isle jeans patterns but basically haven't worn the Megan Nielsen dawn jeans since this photo! Pink. There is a fair bit of my trusty blue in these photos, but also a lot of bright pink! Trusty patterns. Yay for Megan Nielsen opal pants, the Clo Bias skirt and the Treasurie cap sleeve top patterns. Successes: As stated above - jeans with darts ❤️ Both pairs of wide leg opal pants and cap sleeve tops are super comfy, beginner patterns and gets lots of comments Basics - Linen Clo Bias skirt and Ilford jacket - these are relatively new makes but already go with everything! Failures: The rigid denim Dawn jeans. I love Megan Nielsen patterns but these were very hard to make fit my body and they just aren't comfy! Sort of failures: The Roscoe sweater - the elastic round the bottom made this a comfort failure for me but my 13 year old has inherited it and loves it! My Springe dress - this probably just needs altering round the neckline . It seems gaping is quite a common issue. I'm not confident I will wear it a lot otherwise! Where are my fabrics from: The Fabric Store - gingham line, dark denim, fushcia satin, olya shirt print, pink linen, rigid organic denim and knits for Roscoe. So yesterday I shared what I made in 2023, so today I’m looking ahead to what I want to make in 2024! Last year I achieved so much more in sewing than I ever thought possible (see my last post!) so this year my focus is less on real tangible goals, and more on slowing down and making fewer, better makes, focusing on fit and honing the skills I developed last year. I also spent last year curating a pretty decent stash, so I want to use that to be more spontaneous this year and not always waiting for the perfect project to use fabric. I’ve seen a lot of people vow not to buy fabric til they have a project for it - I want to do the opposite of that! I’m always inspired by everyone’s beautiful makes on Insta but have become lazy about sharing sewing content, and then when I do get around to it I find myself scrolling through too many photos to find the ones I’m looking for! So here goes…. I made this @fridaypatterncompany #ilfordjacket a few months ago at the start of Spring. The time of year when leaves and grass start appearing in vibrant shades of the freshest green, and there is the desire to wear clothing to match that brand new foliage! This Cotton Canvas gifted to me from @minervadotcom felt perfectly ‘Spring’ to me. It was a great fabric to work with and the perfect weight for a jacket. I bound the seams with ready made bias tape and added the seed packets onto the inner back from cotton fabric I had in my stash, as a further nod to the promise of future garden blooms (I love the messages on the seed packets!). It isn’t surprising that this canvas jacket fast became a favourite of mine to wear over a warmer sweater or cooler t-shirt depending on how generous the Spring day was feeling warmth wise in the North East. I’m also happily reminded of a special day in Philadelphia admiring art at the @barnesfoundation with my friend Asima. It truly looked like I was wearing some of the paintings with this fabric, especially Cecily Brown’s paintings! I bought this lovely soft flannel from @harts_fabric many years ago when the #ilfordjacket was first released, and I finally made mine this winter. I added 1” to the sleeves and about 5” to the “short jacket” length. Due to my fabric choice this is firmly in shacket territory. The green flannel has gold flecks throughout- it’s a great color and I know I’ll get a lot of wear from it! Mine is an older simplicity pattern @simplicitymccallsaustralia #s8416 but with tower plackets from the #ilfordjacket . A much easier sew than Maxine’s #closetcorejenna that was a new to her pattern but has turned out beautifully! Quilted jacket: This is one of my most recent makes and I'm so pleased with it. Sewing a padded jacket in 28°C heat did feel a bit ridiculous but I have actually worn it a couple of times since I made it! I love the oversized feel of it although I honestly think it could do with being even bigger. It's a simplified version of @fridaypatterncompany 's Ilford Jacket. This jacket was really planned as a trail version to get the fit and size right, as I'm planning to make a patchwork version. Things I’ve made AND photographed in some way (last 6 months or so): #hannahwrapdress for Eric and Keaton’s wedding. I got this fabric for free at a garage sale last summer 😏 Mae’s dress that is a mix of a Harper dress and a gathered square. I’ve made 3 these but this is the only one I have a picture of (Frank tie dyed his own shirt but I helped!) Progress on my #agnetecardigan. This is pre-South Dakota road trip though and I’m well into the next panel. Franks sweater which I’ve posted before but he’s been getting a decent amount of summer morning wears. @fridaypapercompany #ilfordjacket with some denim from @srharris and pretty seams. It got some action on a gnome hunt this spring. I got this wall hanging kit from @srharris. It’s not actually done but I made some rookie mistakes and haven’t been able to face them long enough to finish the binding. Last pic is a three-fer - I can’t remember the name of the pattern I used for the hooded, zippered flannel but I saw a similar one at ll bean and wanted to copy it. My third #bestiebag (also made from free garage sale fabric). I have a brown one and green one also in heavy rotation. Last but not least I knit this hot pink beanie that Frank and I fight over.

My first #memade this month is the #ilfordjacket by @fridaypatterncompany . Many thanks to @stoffsurr for the inspiration. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Quite straight forward sewing though because of the way the sleeves are fitted it was tricky to do french seams so I ended up using them just on the shoulder seams and binding the sides and sleeves. It has made a very neat inside though.(swipe for detail) I’m a bit obsessed with neat seams🙄 I still haven’t decided whether to attach the pockets or not. I probably will as I wear it as a light jacket or a shirt. I made a much deeper hem and shortened the sleeves loads. Probably should have made a size smaller but I like the lose, boxy body. The fabric is linen/cotton mix (I think) from @merchantandmills 3 years ago. I made this @fridaypatterncompany #IlfordJacket somewhat on a whim, and now I quite literally can’t imagine not having it. This was a remnant from the fabric I used to make Lane Pants. Maybe one day I’ll wear them together, but that would be a bolder look than I’m used to! It’s @blackbirdfabrics Cotton Twill. I am shocked at how little fabric this jacket needed, truthfully! I made a size S and made no mods. I overthought the pockets a lot and couldn’t figure out where to place them but ultimately like where I landed, I did add a lil’ hanger thingie at the back neck which makes me feel fun. I love how classic this jacket is and how much I feel like me in it. I added fun labels from @kylieandthemachine and lined the pockets to get through some scraps and keep my hands warm. I used the most amazing buttons ever from a @pigeonwishes collection from years ago. I remember regretting buying them because I didn’t have a plan for them when I purchased, and I usually only like to purchase notions with a plan. The sewn in label says Circa 2021. I was a new dressmaker and had no idea about fitting… So I decided to make @fridaypatterncompany Ilford jacket for my husband. I bound the seams with Liberty fabric using Hong Kong seams…and lined the pockets and collar too… it sat in my wardrobe for 4 years as it didn’t fit my husband or either of my two sons! So I dusted it off and consulted the amazingly talented @sea_sand_sews and @sewlove_elle I cut off the sleeves and shortened them by 6cm, chopped 4cm from each side seam, removed and reattached the pockets and 90 mins later I had a new Ilford Jacket. The #SagebrushTop dress hack is great for a growing bumps, as it has lots of room whilst still looking cute. Paige made a pink gingham and strawberry print version, and a blue gingham version - both of which she still wears now 3 years on!⁠ 2. I’m out of the post Me Made May slump and coming back with some overdue analysis 😃 I’ve been so inspired by Breathing Yarn video about colour palettes – following Isabelle’s tutorial I made my own to help me with my decision paralysis! Let me just highlight: we’re not fans of colour analysis or kibbe body types here, no one gonna tell us what we should and shouldn’t wear !! or what’s FlAtTeRiNg 🤮🤮. The palette is just a tool to help with making decisions about future makes. And also it was super fun to take my makes under a microscope like that 😋🪿 I’d really encourage you to watch the tutorial!! 🪡 The Ilford jacket 🪡This jacket is perfect for the moment between summer and winter. Considering that summer lasts two weeks in Belgium, I wear it a lot. 🧵I made it in this beautiful light blue ribbed velvet and sewed it with pink thread for some subtle accents. ( so subtle you can’t see it on the picture but I swear they are there 🫣) 📕 Overall, this pattern was easy to follow and customise and I loved all the different pocket patterns I could choose out off. My first @fridaypatterncompany #ilfordjacket or maybe shacket! I bound all the seams as per the great tutorial on YouTube. My measurements put me in a large, but after nearly finishing it, I decided it was too big, so had to unpick it and reduce it to a medium! Even now it’s very generous! I also managed to snip a hole in it, hence the little patch on the shoulder! Is it too early to say….”Happy Fall Ya’ll!”??? Because for a variety of reasons I am ready to say goodbye to summer and hello to the cooler temps…one of them being Fall sewing! I’m super excited to have a new blog post over at @fabricmart where I shared my first Fall sew - a sewing community favorite - the @fridaypatterncompany Ilford coat/jacket. 💐 Ilford Jacket 💐 We had the most gorgeous weekend celebrating my sister’s hen! I have been wearing my new Ilford all weekend with every outfit imaginable, but of course ended up getting photos when looking my most fancy 💁🏻‍♀️ I would say this is actually quite a casual jacket but I love I can chuck it on for dressing up too! I was aiming for a super-handy chore jacket with a more slouchy fit and lots of pockets - it definitely hits the brief. The babycord is beautifully soft and light-weight, perfect as a light layer on these (finally) warm days. The cuffs, collar and inside seams are all lined/bound with a vintage @lauraashleyuk fabric that used to belong to our mum many years ago. It gives me a little smile spotting it and thinking of her 🌻 swipe for a rare photo of the four big sisters (there are actually more of us!) - I’m wearing my True Bias Darla in Fabric Godmother fabric again! A tale of two Ilfords! I was so excited that our class at @sewleana was making the Ilford Jacket from @fridaypatterncompany. I’m such a sucker for jackets and felt justified in having more because, hey, I MADE THEM. For my first pass (third pic), I made a wearable toile using flannel from Joann. I made the long version, size large, shortening the length by 2 inches. I loved it immediately. Warm, cozy, and reminiscent of the oversized flannels I wore as a teenager in the mid-90s. For the next version (pics 1-2), I wanted it to be more polished. The fit is very generous so I went down to a medium and again shortened the length. I used a gorgeous blue linen-cotton blend fabric (from the Quarry Trail collection by Anna Graham for Robert Kaufman) and lined it with olive green polyester lining fabric from Joann. I’ve never lined a jacket before, so this was a good learning experience (Friday Pattern Co.’s videos helped!). I adore both jackets, and very much liked this pattern. Everything came together well, and it was fun to pick and choose pockets. The second project is a crochet #ilfordjacket omitting the collar and using bias binding on the seams. It’s a great layering piece for festivals! The last of winter makes, a mash-up of the Ilford jacket by @fridaypatterncompany and a shacket by Burdastyle magazine 11/2023, model 114. So, I am ready for autumn 2025, it seems 😆 I finally made up this delicious caramel corduroy with faux fur back from @sewmesunshine.uk . I had to have it as it reminded me of a long coat I made over 30 years ago in chocolate brown cord/fur combo. This time I used bodice with darts and back with a yoke pattern, and sleeve head from Burda magazine, the rest is easy-peasy Ilford Jacket. I love the collar without the collar stand, more suitable for this chunky fabric and pockets with turned-out fur. Buttons are from my stash, saved from the said coat from 30 years ago. Sewing is great because not only can you make new clothes, but you can alter existing items. Today my outfit features both! My jacket is #memade using the Ilford Jacket pattern from @fridaypatterncompany. Underneath is a basic men’s undershirt after I cropped the sleeves and bottom. It’s fun to make your own clothes, and I enjoy adding personal touches, like lining a pocket with cute fabric and using colorful variegated serger thread. First makes of 2025 first was #sewoveritavaskirt which I made in this chunky cord which I got my @legendtextiles last year I made an #fridaypatterncompanyilford jacket in thanks to Ruth @seam.stressed.ruth and Adele @sew4serenity advising me that the waistband comes up short I lengthen the pattern piece and very happy with my finished skirt this was a toile. Then I’ve made #patternemporium sweet talker bubble sleeve top after looking at the measurements I came out as a 14 but finished measurements put me in a size 8 I had a little discussion at @thestaffordshiresewcial last weekend with Bec’s from @whatbecsews 🤩 The fabric is a Viscose Twill which I got from Birmingham Rag Market probably not the best fabric to make this is with how it frays but worked out ok. I made the longest length and like the length as it can be tucked in or loose. Think next time I make the top I will use #tillyandthebuttonsnell method of gathering the sleeve lining instead of using elastic just my personal preference.

Is it too early to say….”Happy Fall Ya’ll!”??? Because for a variety of reasons I am ready to say goodbye to summer and hello to the cooler temps…one of them being Fall sewing! I’m super excited to have a new blog post over at @fabricmart where I shared my first Fall sew - a sewing community favorite - the @fridaypatterncompany Ilford coat/jacket. This was my second time sewing the pattern and my first time doing the short version and the button cuffs. I used a gorgeous rust colored denim twill fabric and I could not be happier with how perfect this fabric was for my vision of this sew. Considering that summer lasts two weeks in Belgium, I wear it a lot. 🧵I made it in this beautiful light blue ribbed velvet and sewed it with pink thread for some subtle accents. A tale of two Ilfords! I was so excited that our class at @sewleana was making the Ilford Jacket from @fridaypatterncompany. I’m such a sucker for jackets and felt justified in having more because, hey, I MADE THEM. For my first pass (third pic), I made a wearable toile using flannel from Joann. I made the long version, size large, shortening the length by 2 inches. I loved it immediately. Warm, cozy, and reminiscent of the oversized flannels I wore as a teenager in the mid-90s. For the next version (pics 1-2), I wanted it to be more polished. The fit is very generous so I went down to a medium and again shortened the length. I used a gorgeous blue linen-cotton blend fabric (from the Quarry Trail collection by Anna Graham for Robert Kaufman) and lined it with olive green polyester lining fabric from Joann. I’ve never lined a jacket before, so this was a good learning experience (Friday Pattern Co.’s videos helped!). I adore both jackets, and very much liked this pattern. Everything came together well, and it was fun to pick and choose pockets. My first @fridaypatterncompany #ilfordjacket or maybe shacket! I bound all the seams as per the great tutorial on YouTube. My measurements put me in a large, but after nearly finishing it, I decided it was too big, so had to unpick it and reduce it to a medium! Even now it’s very generous! I also managed to snip a hole in it, hence the little patch on the shoulder! 💐 Ilford Jacket 💐 We had the most gorgeous weekend celebrating my sister’s hen! I have been wearing my new Ilford all weekend with every outfit imaginable, but of course ended up getting photos when looking my most fancy 💁🏻‍♀️ I would say this is actually quite a casual jacket but I love I can chuck it on for dressing up too! I was aiming for a super-handy chore jacket with a more slouchy fit and lots of pockets - it definitely hits the brief. The babycord is beautifully soft and light-weight, perfect as a light layer on these (finally) warm days. The cuffs, collar and inside seams are all lined/bound with a vintage @lauraashleyuk fabric that used to belong to our mum many years ago. It gives me a little smile spotting it and thinking of her 🌻 swipe for a rare photo of the four big sisters (there are actually more of us!) - I’m wearing my True Bias Darla in Fabric Godmother fabric again! The denim jacket has made its first appearance of the year 🤍 I've been counting down the cold, rainy days until I could be reunited with my favourite make of 2023, and the day has finally come! Went to the @thestaffordshiresewcial yesterday met up with all the lovely ladies we had a fun packed day as normal. We did miss the lovely Bec’s @whatbecsews and Adele @sew4serenity popped in for a coffee but we did miss both of them. I made the #fridaypatterncompanyilford jacket in some Jumbo cotton corduroy from @legendtextiles which was only £2.99 a metre and perfect as a toile fabric. I made a standard size small with hand warmer pockets which are hard to see in the fabric. The size chart put me in a large but I have plenty of room and love the finished fit. The lovely Ruth @seam.stressed.ruth donated me a lovely piece of liberty for the under collar as I had nothing suitable and I love the combo thanks again Ruth for saving the day 💕🤩 I’ve ordered myself some cotton canvas from @merchantandmills to make my next version this is also inspired by @seam.stressed.ruth as Ruth made herself one in the Olive colour which I tried to pinch she wasn’t having any of it 🤣😂 and she was making one for her dad in the blue / green colour way which looked fab so I ordered some for myself.
