Well this is a bit of a Frankenstein top but I think it turned out well. I used the bodice from #sagebrushtop - except, as usual, I closed the back with a button and loop rather than the long bias ties. I also self-lined the front and back yoke because the fabric is pretty thin. Then the sleeves started as #soifridablouse but ended up with the bottoms copied from #davenportdress. I wanted a Sagebrush in this pretty Swiss dot but wanted the sleeves to be a little more wearable. Here's my @sewoverit #soifrankiejacket finished last weekend. Made with @backstitchshop 4.5 Wale Corduroy and wooden buttons. Made V2 with V1 pockets. It's a size 12 graded to size 10 at the shoulders and my usual forward shoulder adjustment. Love this smarter worker jacket. Forgot to do photos of the lining but the garden photos hints at the purple that is my current favourite colour everywhere Didn't actually wear the jacket today. spent the day in my #msworkertrousers and a @fridaypatterncompany #sagebrushtop that I don't think I've ever posted. #theblackcountrylivingmuseum #sewnwithbig5july @simplicitymccallsuk We are going to a 40s day today.I have made the overalls using #s8447 from a blue gaberdine from @poundfabrics .I had to cut the bodice twice .I should fit according to the pattern in a size 16 for measurements but it was too small.So I ended up cutting a size 20 and it took some fitting.I did my usual crotch depth alterations to fit my personal preference.And added leg length as I am 5ft 11" and have long legs.The blouse is a favourite to make @fridaypatterncompany #sagebrushtop .Overall pretty happy with the finished look

Just another outfit combo … One of my first few #SagebrushTop with the #MnKellySkirt (a recent edition to my me made wardrobe). The Sagebrush Top is made in a @atelierbrunette viscose that I got from @lamazifabrics as a remnant ages ago. The pattern itself is from @fridaypatterncompany and is goes up to 152cm/60” bust and 160cm/63” hips. The Kelly Skirt is a new @megannielsenpatterns and comes in 2 size ranges 0-20 & 14-34. Size 34 has body measurements of 132cm/52” waist and 157cm/62” hips. This version is made out of a washed cotton from @simplyfabricsbrixton and is still currently available at the time of posting this. 🩷 Happy V/Galentine's Day ♥️ I normally sew with my two faves @you_cansew and @sarah.sews.sometimes on a Wednesday night and in honour of Galentine's Day (which I now realise is actually the day before Valentine's apparently 🤷🏼‍♀️) we all decided to sew up fabric from our stash that was perfect for a girl's night...of sewing. This 'sweet pink love' by @doopsdesigns was the obvious choice. I'd actually had this #sagebrushtop and fabric combo saved in @stash_hub for months after Sarah sent me a pic of another maker who had had the brilliant idea to combine these two. I'm sorry to say I can't remember the maker, but it's been living rent free in my head ever since I saw it. The Sagebrush is a lovely sew and combines all the things I love (ruffles, big sleeve energy). It's my second and I'm not sure why I waited so long to make another. I made a small and the only mod was to lop a bit of length off. Other than that, it's a 👌🏼 fit right out of the packet. My second week of #memademay Day 5: @fridaypatterncompany #sagebrushtop in a fun animal Liberty print. I’ve also used the leftovers of this print as a bag lining! Day 6: @tessutifabrics #tessutibrigitte Breton top in a nice stripe I bought at the Knitting and Stitching Show in London last year. This is the third time I made this pattern, and my first project using my serger! I finished this top in April, and it kick-started my sewing again. Day 7: @ensemble.patterns #grecotee I have two of these (you’ve already seen the other) and they are the perfect slouchy comfy tee! I finished this one years ago. And I made a Brigitte out of the leftovers 😂 Day 8: @megannielsenpatterns #mnmatilda that I shortened into a shirt. I did this to test the grading I did between sizes from bust to waist. I made the skirt pieces 6” long, but wish I’d given myself an extra inch or two. Day 9: the Matilda dress I made after the test shirt! Fabric is a block print my 2023 India trip. And I am so proud of my pattern matching on the skirt pockets! Day 10: it was suddenly warm, so I pulled out this @sewoverit #soialbaskirt I made using deadstock fabric from @blackbirdfabrics many years ago

So, I haven't been doing much sewing recently, but I have been doing some fabric shopping and have lots of plans!! Top to bottom, plans are: 1. Short sleeved top of some description as it's only 1 metre. Maybe the @sewoveritlondon shift dress, but the top version (saw one @sewisfaction had made as a sample on her latest video and liked the look of it). 2. Trousers - either #soininatrousers or Nina Lee #portobellotrousers. I haven't made either pattern and can't decide which would suit me better - think I'm leaning towards portobello, but we'll see. 3. Another #soipussybowblouse which will pair nicely with the trousers. 4. Either a @tillybuttons #sewingindigo dress but more likely a @deer_and_doe_patterns #myosotisdresss 5. This is a really soft drapey jersey and I might have a go at a Tilly and the Buttons #agnestop 6. A blouse of some description - haven't found one I like yet though. Any suggestions of new autumn blouses/tops welcome! 7. A @fridaypatterncompany #wildergown- I really fancy swooshing around in a bright red maxi dress!! 8. Another blouse but again, not sure on the pattern yet. 9. Fastest idea to Instagram ever? I decided last Saturday I needed a pair of lightweight trousers, searched for a linen blend, found this unusual linen cotton blend from @sewsewsewuk. Ordered it, bought the #lanepants by @hisydgraham, printed and stuck it last night and spent today making them up. I love them so much, I’m so happy with how they turned out I want to make 300 more pairs 😂 I can definitely see what all the hype is about, they sew up so quickly and the fit is great. I’m 5’ 2” so I chopped 2” off the pattern before cutting the fabric but I needed another 1” off once I tried them on. The fabric was a joy to work with and is so comfy to wear; and it was very reasonable considering it’s dead stock Ralph Lauren! My scraps vs the finished product. . . . . I spent the weekend working on the #sagebrushtop by Friday pattern company. The first one I made was a 4x that I thought was too big. I pulled out my projector, fiddled with it, probably didn’t calibrate it right and made this 3x(?). Now it’s off to the washer so I can possibly wear it to work in the morning.

I posted in my stories a few days ago, how I was working my way through fabric that I'd had in my stash for a long time. First up is another #sagebrushtop from @fridaypatterncompany It was a quick and easy sew but looks so lovely when completed. This is my third Sagebrush top. The fabric is a @libertylondon cotton lawn. As always with Liberty fabric, it was a dream to work with. I bought the fabric from Hawes in the Yorkshire Dale's 3 years ago. It was our first holiday after Covid and we had a lovely week. I got the fabric from a craft fair. The lady was selling some bolt ends of Liberty fabrics. I think I got just over 2.5 metres. I think it's the perfect fabric for the Sagebrush top. Sagebrush for summer - I decided to make this floral Sagebrush top by @fridaypatterncompany with this lovely cotton lawn for week three of the @dreamfabricsuk ‘sewing bee’ competition. The fabric gives the shoulders some real pouf, which I love. I bought this challenge box on a bit of a whim, but I’ve actually really enjoyed it, as it’s motivated me to do more sewing in the evenings. The floral fabrics have been right up my street. I’ve been impressed with the fabrics, and most of the haberdashery that came with it. Few bits were not to my taste, but was fun to open and think about what to make. See photo, right. Cost £35 plus 4.95 p&p. All fabrics were approximately 3-3.3 mtrs. I’ve made two blouses and two dresses with enough khaki and rose fabric left to make something else. I still need to shares photos of week 2. This is my final entry for the competition, which is due by this Sunday 6 July. Made a new #sagebrushtop by @fridaypatterncompany. Love this top it’s really becoming a staple for work in the summer. The fabric is a model/lyocle (I think) twill from Joann’s (rip) that I got on clearance a few years ago. I love the fabric it’s very soft but my lawrd does it fray! Some things (like the ruffle and front yoke) keep getting smaller as I had to keep cutting off all the frayed bits 🤦🏼‍♀️. I don’t normally wear white but I just love all the colors in the check lines. Love this blouse will make again 😁. #sagebrushtop #detroitsews

Nats asked whether I would make her something with this amazing @dashwoodstudio Spooky Season Cat print cotton. We debated between a Sew Over It Shirt Dress or a Tilly and The Buttons Marnie Blouse, but decided on a @fridaypatterncompany Sagebrush Top. I have made a couple of these and Nats has had a sneaky peek of these and agrees that they are a great addition to your wardrobe! This fabric was a dream to work with and it took no time at all to whip this up! I added a few cms onto the sleeve length, but otherwise made no adjustments. I did think I would need to take some of the sleeve width out of the gathered area, but managed to just get the pattern pieces out of 2ms. The top was made in a size small in the bust and the waist. Nats is similar to my size so I am sure this will fit her as well. I took some time to work out what would be seen on the frill piece and think this turned out well. I do wonder whether I should have done this in a contrasting fabric to make it stand out more, but you would miss the cut little cat faces peeping out of the ruffle. I'm not really into Halloween, but I am really jealous of this top and wish it was going into my wardrobe! Atleast I was able to wear it and get some photos! We decided on a top as she could wear this over the rest of autumn and winter as it is not too 'halloweeny', but will be perfect to wear when her little one is dressed up! I will try to get some photos of Natalie in the top and maybe some photos of her little one dressed up for Halloween (their costume is a good one!) 🎄🐇🧵 Peter Rabbit Christmas Blouse 🧵🐇🎄 I absolutely love this Christmas @fridaypatterncompany Sagebrush Peter Rabbit Blouse I made in November. It's been worn in rotation again and again whilst I work from home and visit family. It's a perfect pairing piece with jeans, super comfortable and fun to wear! I was torn between a Marnie Blouse or the Sagebrush and glad I opted for the latter. This is such an easy piece to add to my wardrobe and fits well with my WFH and casual wardrobe. I can't resist a Peter Rabbit print and was torn between 3 different fabric options. I decided to treat myself to all 3 with some birthday money and the end result is 3 wonderful festive outfits. This print works well as a blouse and I love the pops of red and the cute festive print. This will be my Christmas Day Blouse as we have a long walk planned with family. Why is the light in the toilets just so good?! Another toilet selfie but this time with my finished make from the weekend with @sewingescapes This is the @helens__closet #mossjacket made from cobalt bamboo viscose twill from @guthrieghani. The fabric is so soft and drapey so this is such a comfy and relaxed jacket to wear! I also used some of my leftover fabric from @whatvickimade to have a fabulous contrast inner back yoke and pocket linings- I thought The Art was perfect for this! I cut a size 18, and reduced the hem length by 1” (so 1” total instead of 2”) and I’m happy with the length. I didn’t reduce the sleeve volume (after advice from my fellow sewists at the retreat) and I’m happy as now I can wear my tops with puffy sleeves under the jacket without creasing them! This #MeMadeMay I have pledged (@paigejoannaa) to modify and mend existing Friday projects in my wardrobe. Altering the hem lengths, mending worn areas, and modifying things that don't get the love they deserve.⁠ ⁠ 1. The gingham #SagebrushTop dress hack it well loved and needs mending around the neck ties. The length is also too long for me now and I want to shorten it, and use the excess fabric to create a little belt for the waist.⁠ ⁠ 2. The #HughesDress was a labour of love but I just don't wear it! I think I need to shorten the hem slightly and perhaps add some embroidery details to the pocket and neckline to add a little bit of character.⁠ ⁠ 3. The #Wildergown tends to swoop lower at the front for me because I have a small bust, so I need to modify the hem to raist the front a couple of inches, then I think I will wear it more!⁠ ⁠ Do you have anything in your wardrobe that could do with altering or mending? One of my ‘me made’ tops out in the wild. I’m still amazed that I can make my own clothes, even more so that they don’t fall apart in the washing machine! Every time I wash something I’ve made I tentatively take it out the machine just in case it falls apart in my hands…😂 I still think the Sagebrush top from @fridaypatterncompany is my favourite make. It looks great, it was fun to sew and I’m loving styling it for the colder weather 🍂🍁 I mentioned in my last post about this top that I was planning a wee sleeve hack on my next one. I’ve been at my MILs today with the family and she very sensibly suggested I bring my machine. A few hours later, I have my own scrappy #sagebrushtop! The blue floral is fabric I have had in my stash possibly for as long as I’ve had my machine - long before I ever made a garment. I only had 1m x 110cm and it wasn’t quite enough, but I did have a tiny bit of cream left over from some bunting I made for our wedding 7 years ago. I didn’t have enough to make a full sleeve out or it (or the floral!) so I scrapped them together and I think the final look is quite cool. It really emphasises the puff sleeve and makes a feature out of it. The cotton is quite stiff and it holds the shape really well. I need to give it a press but I couldn’t wait to share! Happy Friday Instagram friends! It’s been a rollercoaster of a week weather wise in Cardiff - it can’t decide if it wants to be summer or autumn. We’ve had glorious sunshine and hectic and heavy rain showers. I wore my @fridaypatterncompany Sagebrush top yesterday for a day of meetings and admin prep for the coming uni semester. I made the top a few years ago from fabric my mum @potts2554 gave me for my birthday. I adore the colour and always feel good when I wear it. One of my ‘me made’ tops out in the wild. I’m still amazed that I can make my own clothes, even more so that they don’t fall apart in the washing machine! Every time I wash something I’ve made I tentatively take it out the machine just in case it falls apart in my hands…😂 I still think the Sagebrush top from @fridaypatterncompany is my favourite make. It looks great, it was fun to sew and I’m loving styling it for the colder weather 🍂🍁 I mentioned in my last post about this top that I was planning a wee sleeve hack on my next one. Well, a practice sleeve has been made and apart from sewing the cuff on the wrong way round it worked well! I just need to shorten the sleeve (and attach the cuff the right way round) on my final one 😄 I have the perfect autumnal toned fabric waiting to be cut for it. First sewing entry for the #finishthatwip2024 challenge hosted by @onelisashow . This is a @fridaypatterncompany #sagebrushtop that I had sitting unfinished for my grandma. The weather got cooler and I just stuffed it into a drawer, but I am pleased to have it off my mind now. Fabric: @thenestcommunity . Sagebrush fun 💕 After the success of my first Sagebrush I wanted to make more and play around with the fit and sleeves. For this one, I wanted the ruffle to sit lower, so I extended the yoke by about an inch and deducted the same amount from the bodice. It doesn't sit quite as nicely as I'd like, but I have some ideas on how to fix it next time. I also took a little of the excess fabric out of the back to get a slightly more fitted look. For the sleeves, I'd seen other people try this kind of sleeve and liked the look. I didn't alter the pattern, just turned up the sleeves 2 inches, made an elastic casing and created a fun little ruffle at the bottom of the sleeves. 💕 Pattern: #SagebrushTop by @FridayPatternCompany Fabric: Cotton poplin from @spotlightstores

The top of this dress has been sitting on my mannequin since December 2022 as it was my abandoned NYE dress. I was inspired to use this deep stash fabric for a #sagebrushtophack after seeing @paigejoannadesign peplum top in a similar fabric but I knew I wanted a dress. I abandoned it because I regretted the double layer of ruffle, I felt it was too bulky, so had intended on unpicking and redoing the ruffle as one layer with a tiny hem. Fast forward a year and the double layer didn’t bother me at all (not enough to battle unpicking a zig zag stitch on a jersey velvet anyway). So I got it off the mannequin and was pleasantly surprised that I’d already made the skirt so I just needed to add it to the top! So here it is, in a cat cafe bathroom selfie! It's been worn in rotation again and again whilst I work from home and visit family. It's a perfect pairing piece with jeans, super comfortable and fun to wear! I was torn between a Marnie Blouse or the Sagebrush and glad I opted for the latter. This is such an easy piece to add to my wardrobe and fits well with my WFH and casual wardrobe. Minerva has released a new kit and I had the pleasure of getting to try it. This is the Sagebrush top by Friday Pattern Co. and one of their Minerva exclusive rayon challis fabrics. I made the size L with no alterations. It is a fairly quick sew, with the only trickier part being the bias binding. Instead of stitching in the ditch, I hand sewed it, which I find I have more control over. This was my first time working with a Friday Pattern Co pattern, and definitely not my last (I've made this pattern again and another one of their patterns since). I’ve been at my MILs today with the family and she very sensibly suggested I bring my machine. A few hours later, I have my own scrappy #sagebrushtop! The blue floral is fabric I have had in my stash possibly for as long as I’ve had my machine - long before I ever made a garment. I only had 1m x 110cm and it wasn’t quite enough, but I did have a tiny bit of cream left over from some bunting I made for our wedding 7 years ago. I didn’t have enough to make a full sleeve out or it (or the floral!) so I scrapped them together and I think the final look is quite cool. It really emphasises the puff sleeve and makes a feature out of it. The cotton is quite stiff and it holds the shape really well. I need to give it a press but I couldn’t wait to share! 🐈‍⬛🧵 Spooky Cat Sagebrush Top🧵🐈‍⬛ @nataliejackson2193 Spooky Season top is complete and I am very very jealous!! I want one! Nats asked whether I would make her something with this amazing @dashwoodstudio Spooky Season Cat print cotton. We debated between a Sew Over It Shirt Dress or a Tilly and The Buttons Marnie Blouse, but decided on a @fridaypatterncompany Sagebrush Top. I have made a couple of these and Nats has had a sneaky peek of these and agrees that they are a great addition to your wardrobe! This fabric was a dream to work with and it took no time at all to whip this up! I added a few cms onto the sleeve length, but otherwise made no adjustments. I did think I would need to take some of the sleeve width out of the gathered area, but managed to just get the pattern pieces out of 2ms. The top was made in a size small in the bust and the waist. Nats is similar to my size so I am sure this will fit her as well. I took some time to work out what would be seen on the frill piece and think this turned out well. I do wonder whether I should have done this in a contrasting fabric to make it stand out more, but you would miss the cut little cat faces peeping out of the ruffle. I'm not really into Halloween, but I am really jealous of this top and wish it was going into my wardrobe! Atleast I was able to wear it and get some photos! We decided on a top as she could wear this over the rest of autumn and winter as it is not too 'halloweeny', but will be perfect to wear when her little one is dressed up! I will try to get some photos of Natalie in the top and maybe some photos of her little one dressed up for Halloween (their costume is a good one!) Fabric from #fabricsatfleetwood Really recommend After making a few Sage brush tops I widen the shoulder by a cm, reduce the puff in the sleeve and shorten the sleeve a lot too. Perfect fit now achieved for me. I do love a Friday pattern Company pattern, love the style and how your hand is held throughout.

I also played around with the stripe placement. This fabric was a pleasure to work with- it’s super soft, irons really well and the stripes are really consistent so it made cutting out much easier. Happy Friday Instagram friends! It’s been a rollercoaster of a week weather wise in Cardiff - it can’t decide if it wants to be summer or autumn. I really wanted to make a Donny shirt with this remnant I had leftover, but I didn’t have enough fabric. However I managed to squeeze this sagebrush top out of it instead, I used a tutorial on YouTube for the flutter sleeves. I’m really pleased how it’s turned out and it will perfect for the warmer weather that we are desperately waiting for 🌞🤞🏼. Why is the light in the toilets just so good?! Another toilet selfie but this time with my finished make from the weekend with @sewingescapes This is the @helens__closet #mossjacket made from cobalt bamboo viscose twill from @guthrieghani. The fabric is so soft and drapey so this is such a comfy and relaxed jacket to wear! I also used some of my leftover fabric from @whatvickimade to have a fabulous contrast inner back yoke and pocket linings- I thought The Art was perfect for this! I cut a size 18, and reduced the hem length by 1” (so 1” total instead of 2”) and I’m happy with the length. I didn’t reduce the sleeve volume (after advice from my fellow sewists at the retreat) and I’m happy as now I can wear my tops with puffy sleeves under the jacket without creasing them!
