Catching up on posting some me mades, mostly because I want to eternalize fit notes on the Daphne Maxi dress for myself! #1 - #daphnemaxidress @sewing.masin this was my second Daphne after the white dress. I really wanted to make a version with spagetti straps instead of the puffy sleeves and I feel in love with this abstract fabric from Joann (RIP, I left with the entire bolt though!) so it was meant to be! I made a size A bodice with a size C back panel and widened the skirt dimensions to 35” x 41” instead of 29” x 41”. Spaghetti straps were cut on the bias 13.5” long and attach at the points. #2 - my first Daphne maxi dress! Love this pattern. And I think the bodice could seriously be used as a starting point to make so many more garments. This one was a size B bodice with the back panel taken in some (likely ended up being a size A width back panel). I really do fall in between sizes for this one so I can’t decide which fit I like better. But this one ended up being a little more loose. Might be because the cotton is heavier and it’s lined. Skirt panels also widened to 35” here and lengthed to 49” (photo pre hem) #3 - another @petitestitchery #jessicaskirt mini version with hacked shorts underneath to match my @fridaypatterncompany #arlotrackjacket in @blackbirdfabrics organic cotton sweatshirt fleece & ribbing. One of the fabrics I bought at the recent Fabric Godmother Open Day was this Sarina Soft Shell Water Resistant Coating in Green and Black. I had been eyeing it up online and it was a bargain as it had been reduced to half price when I finally got to see it IRL. I knew it would make a great jacket but wasn’t sure which pattern to pair it with. I decided on the Friday Patter Company Arlo Track Jacket, which I’ve made before. Although there is minimal stretch in this fabric I made the same size as I had previously and stuck to the small. Size wise it worked out well. I sewed it on the overlocker and as I had some green thread, went with a zig zag topstitch which I think adds a nice touch. My ribbing wasn’t very wide so had to split the bottom band but matched the seams at the sides. I really enjoyed making this and took my time to get it as spot on as I could. Something my younger self would never do! Visited Mum's grave today. I do still miss her so very much. It's truly a very pretty churchyard with many historic graves. Arlo track jacket 👟 The last thing I made in 2024 and one of my favourites! I saw a few people making this in fleece and the idea of a snuggly fleece for January gave me so much inspiration! I decided to do one in sweatshirt first as a test. I bought this orange sweatshirting last year for a Billie sweatshirt but hadn’t gotten around to it yet so I thought it would be a great way to use some fabric from my stash. I played around mocking up colours and decided to go for orange and maroon (it’s also the colours of a Liverpool FC training jacket from a few seasons ago which I loved!) Even until the point when I was making this I wasn’t sure if I needed ribbing for the cuffs and waistband. In the end I didn’t need it but the instructions aren’t super clear about this. I figured my fabric had enough stretch to not need it. Shout out to Chelsea’s sewalong for this which is excellent and I found super helpful! The biggest challenge was the zip particularly as the colour blocking made it very obvious if it was misaligned! My zip is slightly too long at the bottom and it isn’t perfectly aligned at the top which is fine as long as I don’t zip it all the way 😅 The sleeves are also slightly short but looking at the pattern maybe they’re meant to be?! There’s a lot of topstitching and my stitching in the ditch isn’t very neat (I’d never done it with a zigzag before!) but lots of lessons learned for next time! This is exactly the kind of thing I wear to walk the dog or after parkrun so I know I’m going to wear it loads. I absolutely love the fit and I’ve already cut one out in fleece! I just finished my @fridaypatterncompany #arlotrackjacket I made this using leftover viscose ponte from my @fabricgodmother #callatrousers #fgcalla & bought 1/2 metre of stretch velvet in the Ace print, so I could colour block it to match my trousers 🐆🤩 I made a size large in the jacket, cutting it at the medium length. In hindsight the shorter version may have been better but I’m still so happy with the outcome. Arlo fleece 🩵💛💙 This is my second Arlo but my first one was merely a practice for the fleece of my dreams. This was my first time sewing fleeece and wow did it take a bit of work! First of all after cutting it looked like I’d murdered a muppet. I was finding fluff everywhere for days! Second of all, because I couldn’t use heat it took me a while (and a lot of research!) to figure out my sewing machine setting to ensure my seams weren’t wobbly. I’m not super happy with my top stitching, particularly on the front which I did before I got my settings sorted. Not ideal with it being right on the front! The wobbly topstitching is also knocking out of kilter my colour-block-matching which I tried really hard with! It’s also SUPER thick and oh boy was stitching in the ditch around the collar tricky!!! I basted pretty much all my seams and I’m glad I did because even with basting this fabric is a nightmare to unpick. I used a thinner fabric for the pocket facing this time and I did skip the topstitching of the ribbing as it’s so thick, but it’s not sitting super flat so I’m not sure if that was the right decision. I did overlock it instead. On the positive side, this fabric is super warm and gorgeous and i’m so happy to see the vision of my Passenger-inspired fleece come to life! (It also accidentally matches my nails PERFECTLY - see photo 3 💅🏼) This is also a practice run for making my husband one of these for his birthday so I really want to make sure I get it right next time! Overall I’m a bit nit-picky about the finishes but it was my first time sewing fleece, I love the colour combo and I know I’m going to wear it all the time walking the dog or around the house. New make for the grid. This is the #arlotrackjacket in size XL with the shortest body and longest sleeve options. The yellow fabric was from a swap organised by @sewwinginit and I think it was donated by @maker.baker.girl. I had enough scraps left for a jumper for my son as well. This was my first time sewing this pattern and it was a really fun sew that went together really easily. It's great for using scrap fabrics so i suspect I'll be making it again, next time I'll make the arms a few inches longer because #sewingtall . This has been worn a lot since I finished it a few weeks ago but it's a very stand out colour so I'm trying to limit myself before people start thinking I have no other clothes. Next time I'll go up a size, for a little bit more room. This one is size L, medium length in a sparkly fleece jersey. A nice easy sew, and my first separating zipper! Arlo in the snow! ⛄️very fortunate to be in Norway on board Aurora this week. So before I left I did a little winter sewing. This is my second attempt at the Arlo jacket and I really feel like I’ve got to grips with the pattern this time round. This was made out of cheap and cheerful fleece, I bought roughly 80cm in both colours and with a zip the whole thing cost about £11! La hice el mes pasado, cuando empezó a refrescar y desde entonces la uso bastante. Es un patrón sencillo, con instrucciones muy fáciles de seguir, además es unisex!!! He usado un punto jacquard de @tejidos.demoda , es súper agradable al tacto que sirve también para entretiempo. La cremallera….no es del mismo color, pero era la que tenía en casa y como soy una ansias, no tenía tiempo que perder en ir a la mercería 😅. I initially bought this gorgeous daisy-print polar fleece from @sewmuchmoor with visions of making another Didi or a Toaster Sweater - but then I saw the fabulous @fridaypatterncompany Arlo track jacket that Tamlyn @sewn_on_the_tyne had sewn. 💕 I decided to copy her shamelessly for a number of reasons. (1) I actually needed one these type of jackets to wear before I go running (2) the Arlo was a New-To-Me Pattern To Sew and we all know how tempting they are (3) this pattern is unisex so it could be useful in future should I want to make it for one of my boys and (4) POCKETS! (5) Lastly, when the fabric arrived, there was a small battle of wills as my daughter loved it too. 😂🤔 I realised that the Arlo offered lots of potential for colour blocking, meaning I could use less of the daisy print and then make her something with the remnants. 🙌 I really enjoyed sewing up the Arlo pattern, especially the precision needed for matching the seams of the different pieces, and the colour blocking was fun. This would be a great pattern to sew if you have a lot of knit fabric remnants (French terry, sweatshirting) for example. There are options for jacket length and sleeve length; I sewed a short length jacket with the medium sleeves. Although my sleeves are acceptable I think next time I would consider sewing the longer length sleeves. I have made this as part of the community sew organised by the @northernsewlsisters. A huge thank you to Tamlyn for the inspiration! ❤️ Now I have to go and fulfil my promise to make my daughter something out of the remnants. I’m interrupting the Liberty lawns to bring you my latest make: the Friday Pattern Company ‘Arlo Track Jacket’ in a vibrant French Terry (now sadly only a remnant.) It’s one of two options for my upcoming sewing course focusing on zips, which will be open for booking in a week or two and will start after the Easter holidays in my Ulverston shop (you can register your interest and get first dibs by sending me your email address.) I love this and have been wearing it lots since I made it. It’s a unisex pattern too 😁 I don’t always suit unisex patterns - being a curvy person - but Friday Pattern Company does them very well, I only have to grade down at the shoulders to get a good fit 👍

A quick pic to show off two pattern options that we’ll be making in the next round of sewing courses 😁 If you’re local and are a sewist who would like to improve your skills, you can choose between the course on zips on Tuesday evenings (choose between this zipped tracksuit top or a skirt with concealed side zip) or the course on easy elastic waisted trousers on Saturday afternoons (choose between this pair of woven joggers with welt pockets, or the Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks.) All patterns are size-inclusive and there are options for men too. Courses last six weeks and cost £135 including the patterns. Still chilly!!! So pleased I made this fleece before Christmas! It’s so cosy and the bright pattern is super cheerful. It’s the short version of the #fridaypatterncompanyarlo.
