The soft shaping, pockets, the length & the cute ruffle. They all work well, I love it. I can't wait to make some autumnal skirts to wear with tights and boots (not that I am wishing the sunshine away 🔆) t shirt is seraphine I set myself a challenge to make my holiday wardrobe this year. Which I achieved 👏🏻 yey! (Next year I want to try and sew some swimwear👙) I used mostly patterns I already had and that I know I like, to create a comfortable holiday wardrobe. The lace dress of my dreams 🦀🐚🐙. I’ve never been much of a lace wearer, and then I saw this guipure lace on @fabricgodmother. And oh my god I needed it. THIS was the lace for me. …and then I let it just sit in my sewing room for a couple months because I was too nervous to cut into it 🤪. But as the end of summer approached, I knew I needed to work up the courage while it was still somewhat seasonally appropriate around here. I wanted to keep the silhouette pretty simple to really show off all the creatures in the lace. I used the same pattern as I did for my color blocked gingham dress - #m8038 . The skirt of that pattern is more mermaid shape. For the color blocked version I had straightened the skirt, and for this one I made it more a-line. And then just some minor fit adjustments here and there. Other than that, I just used bias binding around the neck and armholes as well as all inner seams. The pink underneath is a #saltwaterslip , but I’ll post about that on its own a different day. Proud of this dress I saved before leaving for Texas. This has the stupidest, tiniest sleeves and I couldn’t lift my arms - I cut off the sleeves and eyeballed cutting into the bodice, then used directions from #calvinwrapdress and #saltwaterslip as guidance for making the straps. Today is my birthday! And as has been tradition for the past few years, I made myself a birthday dress! Well, technically two dresses, both in fabrics from @wearethefabricstore - a #saltwaterslip in black silk twill, and a #mnsudley x #patinablouse mash-up in the most delightful black sheer check silk!   The slip dress is size XS blended to S at the hip, hemmed to mini-length. The main dress is mostly the Sudley dress in size 0, but I modified the sleeve to incorporate the design of the Patina blouse sleeve with the buttoned cuff. The main dress has some sweet little details: I love the ties at the back neck; the cuffs are stiffened with hand-basted black silk organza instead of iron-on interfacing, and feature cute flower-shaped shell buttons which I bought at the Oedo Antique Market in Tokyo last year; and I did a combo of French and bound seams throughout for an extra-neat finish. Making both pieces out of silk was a bit of a risk and I had to be super careful when cutting and sewing, but it absolutely paid off, as both dresses feel so luxurious and delightful to wear. As with any project there are small details on each dress that could have been better, but I also know that I'm the only one who will notice these little imperfections, and that they just exemplify the fact that I made this whole outfit myself! I had such a lovely time sewing these pieces, too - sewing is such a relaxing hobby for me, and after a very busy and stressful past couple of months, it felt restorative to spend a few days fully immersed in the act of creating something special just for me. This whole outfit feels so very 'me' - it's comfortable but still a little bit fancy, has some nice swish and movement when I walk, features beautiful little details, and is made in my favourite colour and fibre to wear. I'm so excited to wear it today for my birthday celebrations, and I'm looking forward to wearing it many more times in the years to come! My funkiest make yet! I absolutely love this dress 😍 I found this fabric at an op shop a few years ago and new that it would make the grooviest slip dress. And when I found @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip I knew it would be perfect, and it was! This dress is super comfy and is also just a fun and bright outfit! I also love that it can be worn in summer with a short sleeve or in winter like this with my @papercutpatterns #riseandfallturtlenecks top! I cannot recommend this pattern enough! Shout out to this quick little sew up, the #saltwaterslip by @fridaypatterncompany . I needed the lightest dress possible to wear for an outdoor art fair in 95 degree heat, and this was perfect. It’s a super lightweight Japanese lawn from @louisvillefibersupply . I made a size medium with a bit of a taper up to a small at the top, I had to forgo the adjustable straps because of time constraints, and raised the side slits for max ventilation. When I have more time I’ll work on narrowing the front bodice more at the top so the straps don’t slide off so much. Such a quick and easy pattern, I started it on a Thursday and it was ready to wear by Saturday morning! Side note: I know I’m supposed to show what the dress looks like on, but I despise modeling…

Didn’t sew much for a while there. I finally felt inspired to get back to it! I bought the cobra corsage lawn from @firecrackerfabrics for my birthday back in March intending it to be a jacket lining. I decided instead to showcase it with an easy #saltwaterslip from @fridaypatterncompany to ease back in. ✨ SALTWATER SLIP ✨ Doing a No Buy July really forced me to work through my stash of fabrics and patterns. Here’s another modern classic that I hadn’t yet made. Love the 90s style (feels very Buffy) and pretty pleased with the pattern/instructions. Wasn’t as keen on the fabric and print. Not 💯 sure how it ended up in my stash - definitely not something I’d choose today. Turned out to have decent hand, though, and wasn’t as slippery as I had assumed it’d be. This one’s destined to be a layering piece. After record levels of procrastination I have a beautiful, fully lined @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip dress in @libertylondon monument twill silk and I LOVE her! 💕 Thanks to @newcrafthouse for the Sewing with Silk course & Chelsea @fridaypatterncompany for the tips on lining the dress. The sewing isn’t perfect but I hope I’ve done justice to the beautiful fabric and pattern 😊 I made a size M, moved the waist ties down by 1” and made a lining version in viscose satin. I basted the lining and outer versions at the neckline then bias bound both together at the neckline. As you may have seen on the wonderful Sam’s Instagram page we had the best of days yesterday and did what sewists do best, sew! Honestly it was the most wonderful and sparkly day sewing with my gorgeous sewing friend @sew.letssparkle and look at her stunning dress 🤩 We had so much fun sewing up #saltwaterslip by the brilliant pattern company @fridaypatterncompany I made a Size Small at the bust grading to a Large at the hips. I shortened the entire dress by 6 inches which has meant the slit is rather high, but I think it’ll be great for sunny days. I used this gorgeous viscose crepe that I bought from @rainbowfabrickilburn a couple of years ago. Thank you Sam for the most wonderful day, it really was so brilliant to sew together and I’ll think of you everytime I wear my Salt Water. Someone asked me if this was a splurge purchase and when it comes to the fabric the answer is YES! It's summer dress season, so a few weeks ago I whipped up this #saltwaterslip by @fridaypatterncompany in the long version. I made the side slits ~4" higher, and dropped the side tie attachment about 1.5" to hit at my waist. This is a size M. I've been scoping out this rayon chalis @fabricland.canada when I was running errands in new West last month, and was debating between this and a lounge set. I picked out a second print, too, so I'll hopefully make that set sooner than later! I can't remember if I posted this chambray #vikisews_cynthia , but it's one of my favourite summer layering pieces! I made a size 40, no mods, in a lightweight chambray in my stash from @dressew I made a summer sewing mood board and picked out 8 pieces to make and was IMMEDIATELY distracted by this and another few sparkly projects. This is some 11th hour sewing at its finest. The party dress. #seamworkbo by @seamwork hacked into a dress, over a #saltwaterslip by @fridaypatterncompany , all fabric from @dressew. I made the slip last year or the one before with some Ruby star fabric, and the Bo is heavily hacked, in organza, with a bias tape neckline and an added skirt. I did French seams sewn down, a thick hem band, and kept the waistband attachment exposed. This was such a fun outfit to wear with the boots for the #rosedisco a few weeks back. 🌹🥀🪩🕺 Surprisingly, this was my second chance to wear it in July. The first time I layered it over a 2 piece reversible swim suit: a self drafted bandeau and a pair of Oakley bottoms. Wait till you see the outfit for the silver side of the suit. I started the 2 piece and the dress after 11 pm, and had them all finished by the end of the night. I don't know about you but the high of sewing multiple projects with no mistakes in a row? Unparalleled. The parties were fun and now I have a 3rd excuse to wear this dress out this summer to #sewjofrocktails Later this week, but I might change my mind again before then... What do we think of the slip dress trend this summer? I’m a fan 🖤 This is the #mayadress from @papercutpatterns which features a lined bodice and bias skirt. It’s a really romantic silhouette and has 3 lengths. Here’s some tips I wanted to share for this pattern: 🖤 I’d recommend an overlocker for the neatest finish as the seam construction is a bit fiddly. There’s also some hand stitching needed, which I like but know a lot of sewists don’t! 🖤 I used my walking foot for the bias binding and hem which made it much easier. 🖤 let bias garments hang for at least a day before hemming. I basted 0.5cm in from the edge as a guiding line for folding the hem up which worked well. Toile of the Saltwater Slip that turned out actually very wearable, except I’m not sure about the yellow. Do I look like a giant lemon? I really love how it’s cut on the straight grain, I’m not a fan of bias cut dresses💝 @fridaypatterncompany (I made the necklace too 💅) The only thing I changed was adding about 4 inches to the mini dress length. What’s taken me so long to make the @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip - I absolutely love it! This is a wearable toile in a poly I picked up at our @surreysews Walthamstow shopping trip earlier this year - the next version will be in Liberty silk! I made a M graded to L at the waist and hips, and moved the waist ties down by 1”. Here is my @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip in size: B: S C/D, W: S C/D, graded to H: M C/D made with some 2nd hand 90s drapey cotton blend from @sewgreenithaca Easy enough to grade in between sizes but I will make some changes next time: the armpit gapes and I think I’ll size down to a XS C/D in the bust, I’ll lower the dart by 1” and the waist tie placement by 3”. The straps definitely need length taken off as well. I haven’t had the time or inclination to sew much recently but the August #fabricgodmotherdreamwardrobe gave me the nudge I needed to make the perfect transitional dress in time for my youngest granddaughter’s 1st birthday celebrations. Two posts in one day - because…this dress is amazing and I can’t wait another day to share it! This is the @fridaypatterncompany Saltwater Slip Dress, and my first version which is everything I hoped it would be and more. The instructions on this pattern are so easy to follow and I love the curve skimming but flattering design. The adjustable straps were a little fiddly but the instructions got me through. A Saltwater slip in Bauhaus swimmer fabric- what an apt combination! The G&G fabric is stunning, it is a viscose poplin so it isn’t too thin and slippery, I hope G&G use this base cloth again. I made the size for my measurements and managed to get it out of 0.9 fabric. I did need to shorten the initial strap length as even with the lingerie sliders the straps would have been too long. I’m in love! I definitely doubted that the @fridaypatterncompany saltwater slip would make me feel cute. When I searched the hashtag I didn’t see very many makes that were for busty people so I was skeptical. But it’s the first dress pattern I’ve found that will fit on my vintage fabric, some that are only around 38” wide. I lengthened by about two inches because I am 5’8” and I prefer a little more coverage. I think on future makes I will bring the back strap in a smidge. The straps slide off occasionally and I think bringing them in a tad would help with that. But on the bright side that makes it breastfeeding friendly 😆 She’s just a perfect, easy sundress. But I feel like she’d be equally as cute with a cardigan and boots in the fall. I will for sure be making more! I’m so happy with my bias binding I thought I should lead with that photo…. This is my second version of the @fridaypatterncompany Saltwater Slip dress but the first one I’m posting. I bought this pattern in the Spring but forgot about it, and then remembered it when making a similar knit top. I saw a few posters do an easy hack and make a tank instead of a dress so I gave that a try and it’s a fun little cami! Getting the straps through the adjustable strap thingie is definitely fiddly but the Instructions are really good and got me through it both times. I used a piece of rayon crepe from @minervadotcom leftover from a button top I made last year so this tank version is a nice scrap buster. I also made a dress which I am just in love with but haven’t worn it yet. I’ll post as soon as I do because it came out so lovely!! 💖🎀🩷🌸 Power dressing and dopamine dressing in one blazer. The Eddy Cardigan Blazer is here and you are going to want to make this pattern, just trust me on it. It was a real pinch myself moment when I was asked if I wanted to test the blazer, @fridaypatterncompany was one of the first indie pattern companies I remember using thanks to a year long challenge called Sew My Style. However, I am here to talk about this pattern. I made my blazer over the Christmas break and given how hot it is here I knew I needed to make my blazer in something I could wear. So bright pink linen from the stash (this linen was originally purchased to become a heather blazer just hasn’t gotten around to make it so it seems fitting it became the newest blazer pattern). Lined blazer, collarless finish and a lined vent might seem a little overwhelming to make but the instructions and the diagrams make each step very achievable. It was a great project for my mini break as I was able to take my time and trust the process. That said I was surprised at how quickly my blazer did come together for me even with a moment of user error where I had pre-pressed my hem the wrong length. I embraced the power suit and slight 80s vibes of my blazer and used one of my mum’s old army uniform buttons. It’s the perfect pop of gold. I am honestly so happy with how this blazer turned out. While this was a paid test my views are completely my own and honest. ✨Saltwater Slip✨ We had the pleasure of celebrating a wonderful couple’s special day the other week, so I decided to make a dress for the occasion! Inspired by @sowhatifisew ‘s recent vlog about wedding guest friendly patterns, I decided to use this gorgeous viscose from my mum’s stash to make my first ever Saltwater slip dress. It’s not my usual style, but I absolutely love it and have caught the bug to make more! As ever, the Friday Pattern Company instructions were superb and made it a breeze to sew! I sewed an M on top, grading to an L on the waist and hips. I think next time I could do with taking it in under the arms, but otherwise I’m super happy with how it turned out. Here is my @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip in size: B: S C/D, W: S C/D, graded to H: M C/D made with some 2nd hand 90s drapey cotton blend from @sewgreenithaca Easy enough to grade in between sizes but I will make some changes next time: the armpit gapes and I think I’ll size down to a XS C/D in the bust, I’ll lower the dart by 1” and the waist tie placement by 3”. The straps definitely need length taken off as well. Two posts in one day - because…this dress is amazing and I can’t wait another day to share it! This is the @fridaypatterncompany Saltwater Slip Dress, and my first version which is everything I hoped it would be and more. The instructions on this pattern are so easy to follow and I love the curve skimming but flattering design. The adjustable straps were a little fiddly but the instructions got me through. I wore this dress to dinner tonight and felt so comfortable in my own skin…which is my goal sewing my own clothes. Fabric is a challis from @fabricmart - I’m such a huge fan of them. #wearitonwednesday I love following this hashtag but rarely get myself together to actually join in. This weeks prompt is 90s so I think it’s the perfect time to share my Saltwater Slip dress. @fridaypatterncompany are fast becoming one of my favourite pattern companies. My size puts in at a medium but in the past the Davenport and patina have been nicer in a small so that’s the size I cut out here. It was wrong and I needed to let the hems out so I’ll make a medium next time. It’s a great pattern but it tricks you! You make most of the dress so quickly and think it’s a really easy make and then you have to bias bind the neckline and do the straps… not so easy then! I also found when I was wearing it my straps stretched way out but that was an easy fix. I love the finished product, and think it’s so versatile. So far I’ve only worn it layered over T-shirts but I recently saw my friend @thenaptimesewist wear one with a t shirt knotted over it. And of course, now the weather is better I can wear it on its own. It pairs beautifully with sandals and with white trainers. Mine is made in this fab @minervadotcom viscose challis from their own collection. I’m in love! I definitely doubted that the @fridaypatterncompany saltwater slip would make me feel cute. When I searched the hashtag I didn’t see very many makes that were for busty people so I was skeptical. But it’s the first dress pattern I’ve found that will fit on my vintage fabric, some that are only around 38” wide. I lengthened by about two inches because I am 5’8” and I prefer a little more coverage. I think on future makes I will bring the back strap in a smidge. The straps slide off occasionally and I think bringing them in a tad would help with that. But on the bright side that makes it breastfeeding friendly 😆 She’s just a perfect, easy sundress. But I feel like she’d be equally as cute with a cardigan and boots in the fall. I will for sure be making more! I haven’t had the time or inclination to sew much recently but the August #fabricgodmotherdreamwardrobe gave me the nudge I needed to make the perfect transitional dress in time for my youngest granddaughter’s 1st birthday celebrations. This is the @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip and its perfect for layering - here over a @truebias #rioringertshirt and under a chunky cardigan. The fabric is a lovely Fabric Godmother crepe. I made a size S based on my measurements but ended up taking in about 5cm in total between the side and back seams as I like a slimmer silhouette so I’ll make an xs next time. I loved wearing this dress for a wedding last weekend. It was a rather challenging make due to the satin material, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to make the #saltwaterslipdress The satin is from @sewhayleyjane outlet. First time sewing with satin… Not a fabric I would normally wear, but I was looking for a challenge and this print caught my eye. Frustrating to cut, but once I eventually got used to handling the fabric it became easier to work with. I followed some excellent online tips, the most important of which was to play around with stitch length and tension on a scrap until I was happy. I made the bias binding with a bias tape maker and learnt the hard way this device does not cope well with slippery fabric. Despite a few attempts I couldn’t seem to avoid the side seam puckering, but I’m hopeful if I swish around enough, it won’t be too noticable. Santorini: Day Five ☀️ I think this must be my most sewn pattern ever now…I just love the simplicity & versatility of the @fridaypatterncompany Saltwater Slip. I changed the sizing on this one from my previous versions, making a Small at the bust & waist, grading to a Medium hip. I’m really happy with this fit, especially around the bust. Totally copying @80sclownprincess with this make. Emily made a gorgeous bias cut dress with this fabric and I just couldn't get it out of my head.... Can we please appreciate how well this dress fits even at 7 month pregnant and not being designed for that? 😍 it is so figure-hugging in the right places, but still enough room to fit a belly, if you need to. And all that without even needing a zip. I was absolutely impressed I could get away with wearing one of my “normal” dresses, when I got dressed this morning and just tried, thinking it would not fit 🤗 Made this dress last summer for my Italy vacation (if you scroll down you can see it on my not-pregnant body) and was already obsessed with it. Unfortunately German summers are not long enough to wear it more often. But anyways need more of this pattern. If you wonder why it was so quiet over here, I lost my #sewjo for a little while now, as I have to give up most part of my sewing room to squeeze a nursery-corner in and over this I made a total chaos and had to put away lots of my sewing goods and fabrics. I needed a sewing win and this dress certainly is that! The transition to living in Australia has been incredibly emotional and challenging (leaving behind friends and a life I'd loved for 18 years coupled with my dad being seriously unwell for the past few months), so I hadn't felt the urge to sew. We've finally got a flat in the inner west (finding a rental in Sydney is ludicrous!) and for the first time I have a dedicated sewing room so figured it was time to pick up the unpicker again and make some hot weather wardrobe staples. I love this dress - reminds me of sewing my first ever garment with @sandyvaughan98 all those years ago in the 90s when slip dresses were originally a 'thing'. I'm looking forward to experimenting with all the different ways to layer it throughout the year. The pattern instructions are well written, beautifully illustrated and it's size inclusive (up to a 60" bust and 63" hips). It looks great on everyone - give your eyes a treat and have a trawl through the hashtag ♥️ The third degree burns on my fingers from steam ironing all that bias are worth it - when I tried it on, my partner asked whether I'd made the straps or bought them! It was my first time making adjustable straps and I'm really pleased with how well they turned out. I had to hem it with navy thread as I ran out of black….might unpick and redo in the future but let's be honest, I prob won't! Pattern: #saltwaterslip by @fridaypatterncompany sewn in an XL on top graded out to a XXL at the waist and hips. I added pockets from the @clothkits shift dress pattern - thanks again @sew_justine - they're great as they're not inseam so they don't create any bulk where clothes are closely fitted (well much closer than my usual sack vibes 😂). They're a little too low - When will I ever learn?! - but good enough for carrying my phone and fluff. I also added a shelf bra following a tutorial on sewdaily.com - I used the recommended 5 inch length but will decrease this to 4 inches next time.  Fabric: black linen from @spotlightstores

My funkiest make yet! I absolutely love this dress 😍 I found this fabric at an op shop a few years ago and new that it would make the grooviest slip dress. And when I found @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslip I knew it would be perfect, and it was! This dress is super comfy and is also just a fun and bright outfit! I also love that it can be worn in summer with a short sleeve or in winter like this with my @papercutpatterns #riseandfallturtlenecks top! I cannot recommend this pattern enough! Some highlights from Me Made May, 2025 - items that hadn't made it to the grid yet! 1. I made two wearable muslins of the #swgperennialblouse - such a cute and easy make and a fun different style to add to my wardrobe choices. This black and white gingham one is the second make, with some length removed from the top half - this raised the neckline and removed some extra bagginess. Pattern from @sewnwithgrit 1. & 2. Two wearable muslins of the #brierpants from @daughterjudypatterns - after my pants fitting journey I went back and made a couple alterations where I could to these, mostly in the back curve and inner thigh seams, and now they've grown on me! 3. & 4. My first two renditions of the #saltwaterslipdress from @fridaypatterncompany - one of the patterns I got from winning a giveaway a little while back :) The last pic is my second draft - I modified the pattern a bit to move the strap positions in a bit. I'm learning that I have narrow shoulders and how to adjust patterns accordingly! Party-Perfect Sewing!✨ I wore my handmade Saltwater Slip Dress by @fridaypatterncompany to a joint 50th & 18th birthday party and it was absolutely perfect for the occasion! 🎉🖤 As you know, I love and totally rock a monochrome look — and this calligraphy ink print from @fabricobsession ticked all the boxes. 🎨🖌️ The high side splits were perfect for dancing to 80s classics 💃, and the easy fit left plenty of room for birthday cake! 🍰 To take the look from summer to sundown, I whipped up a last-minute cover-up in a remnant of black double gauze — comfy, breathable, and so easy to throw on. Instant outfit upgrade! I made a size large graded to medium, with adjusted bust darts for a better fit. A Saltwater slip in Bauhaus swimmer fabric- what an apt combination! The G&G fabric is stunning, it is a viscose poplin so it isn’t too thin and slippery, I hope G&G use this base cloth again. I made the size for my measurements and managed to get it out of 0.9 fabric. I did need to shorten the initial strap length as even with the lingerie sliders the straps would have been too long. The vision, the progress, the whoopsie… it was all going so well the darts, the neck line, the side slips, I thought I best try it on before k finish the the binding and doh!! Toile of the Saltwater Slip that turned out actually very wearable, except I’m not sure about the yellow. Do I look like a giant lemon? I really love how it’s cut on the straight grain, I’m not a fan of bias cut dresses💝 @fridaypatterncompany (I made the necklace too 💅) The only thing I changed was adding about 4 inches to the mini dress length. The underarm area was gaping so I took them in about 1 inch in each side after, tapered to nothing before the bust dart. 🍋 🍋 🍋 🍋 🍋 I made a size 1x in the C/D cup. The size chart confused me at first so here are my current measurements in case it helps anyone else! First time sewing with satin… Not a fabric I would normally wear, but I was looking for a challenge and this print caught my eye. Frustrating to cut, but once I eventually got used to handling the fabric it became easier to work with. I followed some excellent online tips, the most important of which was to play around with stitch length and tension on a scrap until I was happy. I made the bias binding with a bias tape maker and learnt the hard way this device does not cope well with slippery fabric. Despite a few attempts I couldn’t seem to avoid the side seam puckering, but I’m hopeful if I swish around enough, it won’t be too noticable. This is a wearable toile in a poly I picked up at our @surreysews Walthamstow shopping trip earlier this year - the next version will be in Liberty silk! ✨Saltwater Slip✨ We had the pleasure of celebrating a wonderful couple’s special day the other week, so I decided to make a dress for the occasion! Inspired by @sowhatifisew ‘s recent vlog about wedding guest friendly patterns, I decided to use this gorgeous viscose from my mum’s stash to make my first ever Saltwater slip dress. It’s not my usual style, but I absolutely love it and have caught the bug to make more! As ever, the Friday Pattern Company instructions were superb and made it a breeze to sew! I sewed an M on top, grading to an L on the waist and hips. I think next time I could do with taking it in under the arms, but otherwise I’m super happy with how it turned out. From yesterday’s @fridaypatterncompany #saltwaterslipdress to today’s fabric cutting, trying hard not to get booby sunbursts!! Been a bit quiet this week while trying to recover, not managed any sewing but did get on and cut out today, on a deadline for this one! Again! After this dress is finished there will be some leisurely-sewing-whatever-I-want time 🙌🏼 Of course I have a myriad of things jostling for top of the list 😂 The beautiful floral arch is in a village near me and is made possible by local yarn bombers. Made a slightly oversized #saltwaterslipdress by @fridaypatterncompany (on a Friday, as is custom). So quick to make! Definitely helped that the gingham made cutting the bias tape much easier. I tried to add a bit more volume as I love a swishy summer dress, but accidentally added it to the wrong side of the back pieces, so had to cut it back to the regular pattern. Just as well, as in hindsight this lovely yarn-dyed tumbled linen from @fabricgodmother is a bit too structured for a swishy dress. Maybe next time! #imakemyownclothes #memadewardrobe

Can we please appreciate how well this dress fits even at 7 month pregnant and not being designed for that? 😍 it is so figure-hugging in the right places, but still enough room to fit a belly, if you need to. And all that without even needing a zip. I was absolutely impressed I could get away with wearing one of my “normal” dresses, when I got dressed this morning and just tried, thinking it would not fit 🤗 Made this dress last summer for my Italy vacation (if you scroll down you can see it on my not-pregnant body) and was already obsessed with it. Unfortunately German summers are not long enough to wear it more often. But anyways need more of this pattern. If you wonder why it was so quiet over here, I lost my #sewjo for a little while now, as I have to give up most part of my sewing room to squeeze a nursery-corner in and over this I made a total chaos and had to put away lots of my sewing goods and fabrics. So at the moment I can not be motivated to sit down and create something… Also has to be something I can wear after pregnancy as well, any tips on patterns for that? Two posts in one day - because…this dress is amazing and I can’t wait another day to share it! This is the @fridaypatterncompany Saltwater Slip Dress, and my first version which is everything I hoped it would be and more. The instructions on this pattern are so easy to follow and I love the curve skimming but flattering design. The adjustable straps were a little fiddly but the instructions got me through. I wore this dress to dinner tonight and felt so comfortable in my own skin…which is my goal sewing my own clothes. Fabric is a challis from @fabricmart - I’m such a huge fan of them. My cousin had a small, intimate wedding on Tuesday at this beautiful venue @treetopescape After a bit of a sewing rutt, I dug out this #saltwaterslipdress that I started way back in December (during my sewing evenings at @makefabricboutique ) and finished it the night before. I made the long version with side ties. I somehow nicked the hem at center back but covered it with a #kylieandthemachine label. #wearitonwednesday I love following this hashtag but rarely get myself together to actually join in. This weeks prompt is 90s so I think it’s the perfect time to share my Saltwater Slip dress. @fridaypatterncompany are fast becoming one of my favourite pattern companies. My size puts in at a medium but in the past the Davenport and patina have been nicer in a small so that’s the size I cut out here. It was wrong and I needed to let the hems out so I’ll make a medium next time. It’s a great pattern but it tricks you! You make most of the dress so quickly and think it’s a really easy make and then you have to bias bind the neckline and do the straps… not so easy then! I also found when I was wearing it my straps stretched way out but that was an easy fix. I love the finished product, and think it’s so versatile. So far I’ve only worn it layered over T-shirts but I recently saw my friend @thenaptimesewist wear one with a t shirt knotted over it. And of course, now the weather is better I can wear it on its own. It pairs beautifully with sandals and with white trainers. Mine is made in this fab @minervadotcom viscose challis from their own collection.
