The moment I saw this fabric I was in love. I'm not sure if it was the bright colours or those juicy oranges. It's a viscose linen, so lovely and drapey but with the best qualities of linen thrown in - stable to work with and breathable. My first thought that it was make an absolutely dynamite #saguaroset by @fridaypatterncompany. I can imagine swanning about in it on sunny days, looking like I should be in St Tropez. Or if you're less of a fantasist than me, how about a blouse or shirt. I didn't get to wear this out last night, but that's ok bc I think it's more casual anyway. It's actually a really nice change from my usual t shirt and bike shorts I wear when it's 110F outside and I don't want to get dressed. I got this 1.5m cut of fabric from #wearethefabricstore for U$D4.46 !! It's lightweight poly double jersey knit. I did iron on interfacing for the waistband and a lot of color transferred even after pre wash, but at least I learned not to sit on a white couch wearing this for a while. For the top I used #s9885 and hacked it off under the bust, added a 4in x width of pattern piece band folded in half lengthwise and inserted 1.5" elastic. For the shorts I used #fridaypatterncompany #saguaroset with 3" inseam. This set was super fun to sew and except for hems, it was all done on the serger in maybe 1.5 hours. I did throw in a couple of pics of food and drink from last night bc it was sooooooooo good @tesotaphx

I haven’t tried to sew a garment out of that in ages. Honestly, everything turned out pretty well for it being quilting cotton, plus it’s such an easy sew. My friends also said that they preferred the cotton items I made for them because they were the coolest temperature-wise to wear out of all of the items they had along. I decided to line my shorts with some Bemberg I had on hand. Note to self: line more pants/shorts. They wrinkle less, look better, and are more comfortable to wear. We go to Disney quite a bit for races, so I know my shorts will get a lot of future wear in the parks. People commented all day every day about these items, which made me feel so good. The item that received the most questions on where to purchase was the newsprint Harry Potter Dress No. 1. I saw this bolt of checker print linen/rayon fabric and knew I wanted to make a matching set. The pants are from the #SaguaroSet but I wanted a smaller top, so I used New Look #N6722 and it’s exactly what I imagined. 🏁. • Since everything I own is in a tightly packed storage unit and most of it is inaccessible, please imagine the perfect summer accessories: a stack of my handmade neon resin bangles, big rings, a flat brimmed hat (maybe a different one), either an over sized or teeny tiny handbag, FRESH FRECKLES & A TAN, and I’m thinking some platforms in a punchy color? Right? 🎈. • My mods here were minimal as I considered these test garments for both patterns. Pants: the horizontal balance was off so I lowered center front 1”, I reduced the waistband height to 1.5” and increased all seam allowances so I could make them French or flat felled. For the top I’ll do a blog post on my small tweaks but I liked the drafting! My Blair Skirt is finished! I haven’t got any proper cute pictures of it yet but I’ve thrown in some quick pictures at the end. I’ve found that this skirts sits above my hip on my low waist. It’s not high waisted. If I wanted it high waisted I’d have to grade down further or refit the skirt. I haven’t worn anything that sits this low in years so it will take a moment for me to get used to it. In terms of the sewing, the only thing I did differently was to sew the front side of the button plackets first, and then stitch the back sides of them. I did the same for the waistband, sewing the main side first and then sewing the lining by doing a “stitch in the ditch.” I found it easier and neater to do it that way. The fabric was really easy to sew. It’s not very thick so my machine happily sewed through all of the layers. I used the Dusky Pink corduroy from @sistermintaka In terms of styling, I don’t have anything to go with it yet. I want this to be more of a hot skirt than a cute skirt. I’m picturing it with some soft silk tops. I’ve tried it with a few things from my wardrobe so I can get a sense of what shapes work best. I feel like an adorable dork when I wear it with a cotton lawn Gilbert top. It’s cute but it’s not the look I’m going for. The Camille Top (with the bows) doesn’t look great in the cotton lawn, as it sticks out too much. I do like the low neckline though. Maybe I could try it in a silk fabric with some elastic in the sleeves and slightly lengthening the bodice so I could tuck it in. The third style would be something low and more fitted, like the #SaguaroSet top, or something similar. I’d love some suggestions! The last picture is it just with a T-shirt. I was wearing that under my jumper today. It wasn’t a style choice, but I just wanted to post that, because you can see the finished belt on that picture! Please send me your favourite top patterns. #mmm24 Another matching set today, but this time the set is actually pajamas! I made these back in December because I wanted some cozier PJs, and I'm so happy with how they turned out. This has been another slow sewing year so far. I did go to Montreal in early May and found some bright, happy fabrics that I am now finding time to make up. I made up these #saguaroset pants in a slightly mysterious fabric from Tonitex. It has a bit of stretch, but is also a light, crepe-like texture. It's a great weight for a summer pant. I adjusted the width of the waistband for 1 inch elastic; I also lengthened the pants to be full length rather than cropped and finished with a deep hem. I made an XXL. . This #brynncardigan sat half way finished on my floor for about two weeks before I picked it up to finish it. I thought I wasn’t going to like it and I was worried it was going to be too tight to button, but it’s actually not too bad! Still, I have some notes 😄 👇🏻 I made a size 6 (one size up from my recommended size, bust 34”) but might want to try a size 8 for more ease. Although I do like where the shoulders hit…the armholes could have more ease. I’ve gotten really used to oversized/loose tops so it just feels weird wearing such a fitted top, but I do like it as a different top option. I made the hip length and I prefer it tucked it, so I may go back and shorten it so it’s not so bulky when tucked. I knew I wasn’t going to use it as a cardigan, so I sewed the buttons through the button band. Not sure if I will make another one yet…unless I find myself wearing this often and want one in a different fabric. The v neck was a little low for me so I just put the first button higher. The photos aren't great but here's the info on the dresses I made. 1. A mash up of the @sewoveritlondon Masie dress and @closetcorepatterns Pauline dress. The bodice is the Maisie unchanged and I shortened the circle skirt of the pattern to create the lower tier of the skirt. The upper skirt began as the main skirt piece for the Pauline but I took it in to make it more fitted. 2. @byhandlondon Jenna dress.The skirt was lengthened and not cut on the bias and the sleeve pattern piece was slashed to create the angel sleeves. 3. @byhandlondon Anna dress, pretty much out of the packet, just lowered the neckline a little. 4. Self drafted, simple elasticated top with ties and the Saguaro trousers by @fridaypatterncompany . For this project, everyone chose the style they wanted very much with their body type in mind and I think they chose very well. Saguaro Set - Black Everytime I see black clothes in summer it looks so chic so I decided to make an all black saguaro set. The top has the same sizing/mods as previously and the trousers are size medium. I found the trousers to be too high at the back so I've removed 4.5cm. Problem was I'd accidentally cut the fabric too small anyway as I didn't unfold the pattern piece when I was cutting fabric 🤦🏽‍♀️ So there was quite a bit of correcting to do. I enjoyed wearing this set and it's nice to be able to mix and match the pieces as well. I made another pair of trousers. These feel like pyjamas, but definitely do not look the part! I have gained a bit of weight this year, and the pants of my beloved #saguaroset had become a bit tight. So I remade them, one size bigger for the back, two sizes bigger for the front. See picture three and five for a comparison with the old pair. Now my favourite summer set is back in rotation! 🧱Saguaro Top🧱 I finally got around to sewing the Saguaro Top and now I have this beautiful Saguaro Set! I’m not usually one to wear crop tops, but I truly love how this one turned out. I love the style, the big sleeves, the broad elastic. It’s super comfortable and secure. I feel very put together in this set and looove the look of the top and pants combined! 🤩 Initially I sewed on the optional front ties, as I was slightly concerned that it would be a bit revealing. However, after finishing, they didn’t look great when tied and I decided to cut them off. I did tack the overlapping pieces in the front in place to make sure the top doesn’t fall open and now it’s perfect for me. The top came together quickly and it was fun to make. For my birthday I made this matching set and I am OBSESSED with it. I love that I can wear each piece separately or together for a bolder look. Happy 31 to me ✨ . . . My latest make! Why oh why has it taken me so long to make a pair of #saguaropants 😵‍💫 I’ve had my eye on the pattern since it was released, and when this amazing viscose linen (that I’ve also had my eye on for a long time 😍) went into the @fabricgodmother sale, I knew it was going to be a match made in heaven 🥰🥰 What can I say, I absolutely love this trouser pattern and can see many more being made in the future. The fit is just spot on, no adjustments needed other than to add 1/2” to the length. I absolutely LOVE how vibrant these are, but I’d also like to make a plain black pair for next summer as I think they’d just go with everything! I don’t know if pjs are considered coordinates for purposes of the #st4s25 challenge, but when a friend looked at my puffin fabric and said, “that would make great pajamas,” I couldn’t unsee it! @jenleggsews and @sewing_in_spain can decide. 🐧 I went all @fridaypatterncompany for these, using the ever popular #donnyshirt — my third one — and a shortened version of the pants from the #SaguaroSet for the bottoms. The fabric is my own design, “Puffin Colony Stripes” printed by @Spoonflower on their cotton poplin base. #patternhackathon2025 take 2: the #fgfleur The fleur pattern from @fabricgodmother has been on my to sew list for a year (or whenever it was released) but I always felt that the pattern wouldn't suit my wider frame with the high neck, puff sleeve, and rather shapeless silhouette (no hate, just the pattern has no darts or shaping). So when @patternhackathon came around again I was inspired to take a second look at the pattern and try turning it into a v neck. It was super easy, just needed to adapt the neck and I swapped out the bias for facings and voila! A top that (I think) for me is much more wearable 🎉 I am entering this into the KISS category for the #sewingchallenge as even with adding facings, it is a basic pattern with less than 10 pieces 🙌 I made this in a lapis eyelet fabric from @blackbirdfabrics that's been in my stash a while. I paired it with my plaid #saguaroset pants from @fridaypatterncompany because gingham is a neutral, right? I'm thinking this will probably my last, or second to last summer sew. For some reason this year I'm much more inspired for fall and specifically jackets. Are you feeling the same? Finally cut the fabric for a toile for the pants from the #SaguaroSet after having the pattern pieces all put together and cut out. I thought I would only have enough fabric for shorts, which is fine because I really do need shorts, but it looks like I’ll have enough for pants! I’ve wanted to sew this pattern for ages and I have some lovely 6oz denim bought specifically for this pattern after seeing a pair made by @AllysonDykhuizen. It will be fall soon enough, the first apples have shown up at the farm stand near where I work, so I need to get a move on sewing up that denim! I do also need a pair of shorts so this pattern may be getting a lot of use if I like it as much as I think I will. #FridayPatternCompany #SummerSewing

Dit naai patroon stond al jaren op mijn naai-wensen-lijstje 🤭 zodra het patroon uitkwam heb ik het gekocht, maar ik twijfelde zolang in welke stof ik dit wilde maken en of de pasvorm goed voor me zou zijn. Maar ik ben zo blij dat ik het nu eindelijk gemaakt heb! 🥰 Dit patroon is de Saguaro set van @fridaypatterncompany . En ik heb hiervoor stof gebruikt van @leff.fabrics een heerlijke hydrofiel/double gauze! Hierdoor is het een lekkere luchtige zomer outfit geworden. Ik vond de roze kleur zo leuk 😍 Wel heb ik een paar kleine aanpassingen gemaakt, ik heb de lengte van de broek wat aangepast door boven en onder een paar centimeters toe te voegen (ik ben 1.75m) en bij de top heb ik de voorpanden wat meer laten overlappen zodat de decolleté niet zo diep is en dit met een paar steken vast gezet. Hierdoor voel ik mij iets vrijer in deze outfit, ik wil gewoon kunnen bukken en vrij kunnen bewegen 🤭 op hun website leggen ze dit gelukkig heel goed uit, het staat ook in het patroon vermeld. Ik zit nu al te denken om de broek misschien nog eens te maken in een mooie effen linnen kleur 🥰 wat dat betreft is dit een heel veelzijdig patroon. Ik zag ook mensen die de top andersom dragen, zodat je een blote rug hebt en hoge hals voor. Oh dear. I made matching pants, and now I have definitely turned my new Helen top into pyjamas 😅🤣. I will scrap the pants for bias tape and keep the top. I cut out the front legs one size larger than the size chart suggested in an attempt to hide my belly, to make the fabric fall straight down and not curve in under it. (Not that I think that there is anything wrong with having a protruding belly or showing it, I just prefer not to show mine). Do you think it worked? Time for some travel-adjacent sewing content! I whipped this #saguaroset up in the week before I left on my trip. I say whipped - it is a very quick sew, but of course I was out of the correct size elastic, and then I ran out of the right colour thread, naturally after I’d already been to spotlight to remedy the elastic situation. Anyway, I digress. This is a quick sew. I made a size bigger in the bottoms than the top (M vs L as per the measurements, but unusual for me, I’m usually smaller in the hips) and I’m VERY glad that I did as there wouldn’t have been enough room in the bum if I hadn’t. I cut 1 size longer than wide in both top and bottom to account for #sewingtall but really should have just lengthened the bottoms and top at the length/shorten line (was feeling lazy). Here they are being worn in Manarola on the Cinque Terra. I’m here alone so it’s dodgy selfies only I’m afraid.

I really really love the @fridaypatterncompany Saguaro set pattern (so much so this is my third time making it); it is the perfect palette cleanser make, coming together so satisfyingly 🪡 - I seem to be in a bit of a sewing comfy clothes phase at the moment which I’m more than ok with as 90% of the clothes I do wear are comfy around the house clothes so it only makes sense that I would also sew these sorts of outfits.. Finished this Este Shirt by @atelierjupe on Tuesday evening and wore it to work on Wednesday. I saw a similar shirt in a shop window about a month ago, but it was £60 and I thought ‘nope’. Found this peach linen @woolcresttextiles and knew it was perfect! £25 and 4 weeks later, and BOOM I have the shirt. This is the coord of dreams! I made this over a month ago and it’s been so hard not sharing because I love it so much. This is the Bahama viscose and linen from @fabricgodmother and is part of their Desert Island collection. The print is everything - I love big bold fabrics and this leaf print is reminiscent of some of my favourite designers. The fabric has a lovely weight but isn’t too heavy and the mix of fibres means it doesn’t crease too much. I knew I wanted to make something relaxed and chic that could be worn on holiday or out to lunch. I’ve seen a lot of shirt/trousers coords recently and wanted to make a cool set. I chose to use two patterns from @fridaypatterncompany. The first is my trusty Saguaro pants - I’ve made so many of these and never get tired of them. I decided to pair them with the Butano button up. It was my first time making the Butano - I didn’t toile it as I was confident that the fit would be right. I did shorten the length by a few inches but that was my only modification. I love the details on this shirt - the little loop on the back elevates it perfectly. Both patterns sewed up beautifully and I LOVE the result! I was given the fabric as part of the @fabricgodmother ambassador programme and I’ll also be paid for this post. TGIF friends, TGIF! Today I needed to wear something comfortable and happy that was still put together enough on top for half a day of video calls. Please excuse the crazy hair - it looked a lot better the first half of the day than the second because of the crazy humidity with the storms here. Today I’m wearing two beloved pieces from favorite patterns. My top is the Bestie Tee from @patternemporium_kate and my pants are the Saguaro pants from @fridaypatterncompany - two great patterns! The Bestie comes with so many options and this version is the crop top with band in a rib knit from @fabricmart that’s so soft. For the pants I size up to get a looser fit and this pair is such a favorite of mine! Fabric is a double gauze from @joann_stores that I wear and wash frequently and they are holding up great. I am hoping to make another pair for Fall in a nice chocolate brown. I’ve been under the weather since Thursday night - not COVID, not strep, but some awful virus that felt like broken glass my throat and sucked all the energy from my body. Today was the first day I felt like I could do more than sleep on the couch but I still needed pajama like comfort to sooth my soul. I really really love the @fridaypatterncompany Saguaro set pattern (so much so this is my third time making it); it is the perfect palette cleanser make, coming together so satisfyingly 🪡 - I seem to be in a bit of a sewing comfy clothes phase at the moment which I’m more than ok with as 90% of the clothes I do wear are comfy around the house clothes so it only makes sense that I would also sew these sorts of outfits.. One final wedding outfit to share with you 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♀️ Besides sewing, my other passion is Yoga, and it’s the coolest thing that I get to teach yoga as a job. So of course I had to practice with my wonderful friends and family at the start of our wedding day. The dogs also joined in 😂😅 This obviously meant that I needed a wedding day yoga outfit! It was also so perfect for getting ready. Anyone else find tour tshirts a horrible fit ? This time I bought the biggest size to re cut in the fit I wanted. This was a 2xl cut using the free closet core tshirt pattern. This was a change of plan. Originally I bought this chambray fabric from @thefabricobsession to make a Smitten Jacket but I changed my mind and decided a pair of Saguaros would be much more useful and worn more frequently so I cut them out of my 2m of fabric. I thought I might have enough for a little bag or bag lining with the remainder, but no. Because it’s so wide, I got a Naya out of the remaining 0.6m and even enough for a pair of tabs and cuffs (and a pocket which I decided against in the end). I used the tabs from the Pattern Emporium Shoreline shirt top. This is the advantage of being extremely short! 😂 I figure this would also fit the #patternhackathon25 challenge as I hacks the knit pattern Naya into woven, added side slits and changed the cuffs to fold up, adding tabs to keep them in place and decorated with stitches from my sewing machine along the cuffs and tabs. Entry 2: Again, this is the holiday palette, sewn in June and I feel it’s juicy fruity colours, so it’s going in my raspberry beret collection for my hols (and I’m hoping it can count for the #sewfruity25 challenge!). This is the Paddington Top (free from Peppermint Magazine at the time I downloaded it). I’ve made a few of these now and I love the neckline and the process of making it. The fabric was from Sew Hayley Jane and is Roo-Tid (Fluidity, I think?). It was gorgeous to work with and I also made Style Arc Bob pants to make a co-ord set (although I’m not sure I’m brave enough to wear them together….do I look like a clown? Or in PJS?). Soft pajama pants in a airy viscose have been on my “must make list” for summer since last year. I finally took the plunge and made a pair. Finished this Este Shirt by @atelierjupe on Tuesday evening and wore it to work on Wednesday. I saw a similar shirt in a shop window about a month ago, but it was £60 and I thought ‘nope’. Found this peach linen @woolcresttextiles and knew it was perfect! £25 and 4 weeks later, and BOOM I have the shirt. It’s not fast fashion 😆 Also made these lovely, wide-legged Saguaro Set trousers from @fridaypatterncompany using a midnight blue Lyocell from @myfabricscouk No mods to either, apart from adding 3 inches to the bottom of the trousers so they aren’t ankle swingers. Today’s Me Made May rework is a very subtle one. I loved the fabric and neckline of this Friday Pattern Company Saguro top, but found it a little too cropped for me. So I unpicked the elastic casing, and re attached it as a single layer panel, making it more blouse looking than blouson which the encased elastic created. Dinner at Remy’s this time started a little chaotically. Bless them, they were run off their feet and getting some flack from impatient guests (including a family of 8 who turned up late - we heard them being called several times - and then loaned that it was rude they weren’t seated instantly!). Everyone was packed into the front waiting area and it was claustrophobic but having visited Remy’s a couple of times, we knew it would be worth it and it sooo was. The restaurant is always so lovely with fantastic immersive theming and the food is the best on property by a long way. A fabulous experience made sharing by a seat right next to the ride! (Which broke down so we got to watch the staff trying to fix it). Outfit is my floaty fabulous #tianasclosetislatop in the most beautiful @ladymcelroyfabrics silk viscose (it’s called Bon Voyage and has patisseries and French cafes all over it - although I feel it would work equally well in Italy as the scooters have an Italian vibe to them). Soaking in a (probably unhealthy) dose of vitamin D ☀️ I have had this bedsheet in my fabric stash FOREVER 🙈 I’m obsessed with the sunny orange and yellow stripes and I’ve been scared to actually cut into it. Week 3 of #4weeksofholidaystyle: wear a garment that feels like a warm hug 🫶🏻✨ On gray days like this, I love to heat up apple cider and shimmy into a chunky hand-knitted sweater and elastic waist pants. I’ve tried using other yarns, but @lionbrandyarn Thick and Quick Wool Ease is simply my favorite.
