Some #memade fit picks from Spring Break. Yesterday I turned 41 and went with my middle child to see Frozen the musical. I wore my #reedskirt and #saturdayskirtset top. Before that we made a quick family trip to DC. The first day was cold 🥶 and I didn’t get a pic of my zadie jumpsuit/ fieldchores sweater combo. But I got a few fits pics with my #saltyairsweater with a #lucyandyak boiler suit and my #cielotop/#pietrapants / #handknitcardigan combo. The last two photos are of my two year old who loves button up shirts and wearing over and under sized cardigans but refused to wear the fresh off the needles #grampscardigan I just finished for him 🤪. Almost forgot to post this. Yesterday between work and kid pickup #1, I did an awkward photo shoot at City Hall. This is my new #saturdayskirtset top in @mindthemaker viscose crepe from @stonemountainfabric I’m wearing it with my #reedskirt that I think needs some fusible interfacing worked in because the fabric is too light and bunches a bit. I love the silhouettes of both the #saturdayskirtset pieces and I don’t have many blouse type shirts. After sewing pants and a vest with welt pockets, this was a breezy make. This is the #saturdayskirtset by @fridaypatterncompany I made this set back in January to wear while visiting Mexico for a friend’s wedding. (I didn’t wear it to the wedding). It is SO comfortable! I found this bright green bed sheet at the thrift store and instantly fell in love 😍 💚. I’m pretty sure it’s a linen, cotton blend. It’s funny because I don’t normally gravitate to this shade of green, but it made me happy! Here is the @fridaypatterncompany Saturday skirt set I made from @minervadotcom luxury viscose satin. I'm trying to get better at posting my projects while sitting for those in wheelchairs to get a better understanding of how sewing projects could look on them. 💜 I think this would be a cute wedding guest or formal occasion outfit, I love how it looks in the satin. This Minerva exclusive viscose satin has enough weight to hide the lines of facings or pocket bags, which is such a win. But then you find out the dress is for a fundraiser for your workplace?! 🤯 what are the odds? @oliviadesigns.art reached out for a one-of-a-kind dress to match her table at an interior design and artist showcase to raise coins for the arts. The event was so special and I’m just tickled I can craft fun things for these moments! The gorgeous satin featured her hand drawn flowers and was surprisingly easy to work with, as far as delicate textiles go. It was so airy and feminine when all stitched up. The #saturdayskirtset is a fun sew but the amount of steps to make the top?! I went through 400 meters of thread 😂 but I’m not deterred: I’m making myself a silk version and my sister (Elder LaFo) a linen set! Only mod was not using interfacing. Summer ready!! My #oggpom for the summer is a UFO that is now complete! I cut out this #saturdayskirtset with a front slit hack courtesy of @itschelseaw out of this fabulous linen bought from a destash sale @_christinae months ago. 🩵 This set is a size small, no adjustments other than putting in a front slit to the skirt. I did not sew the top facing down, as I did not want the lines, but I think I’ll tack it down a bit, as it was insisting on greeting the world while I wore this today - best outfit for such a sweaty day. I also bedecked myself in an array of shiny baubles as I recently learned, thanks to the lovely folks at @merriamwebster that ‘tawdry’ was basically a way to shame women out of wearing great jewelry. I've been lusting after a #saturdayskirtset since I first started sewing for myself a few years back and finally got round to it! I saw this crinkle cotton at @fabricgodmother and thought it would be perfect, light and breezy but also with some texture so it wouldn't immediately look rumpled. The only issue is that puts so light it is quite see through so i fully lined the body and added an extra layer down to my knees in the skirt. We're currently on holiday in France 🇫🇷 and I have basically lived in this set! It's so comfy and works for pretty much all situations while on hols. I've already made a 2nd skirt from the pattern so it can see myself getting lots of use from the pattern. Before a work trip I did a little panic sewing with the basic combo of skirt and tee. This is another #sewlalanora tee from @sew.lalapatterns, and the skirt is from the #saturdayskirtset by @fridaypatterncompany. Sizing/mods: tee: size 6/36, sleeves shortened 1" and bodice pieces shortened 2"; skirt: size S, with front and back pieces 25" long. Fabric: skirt is made from thrifted rayon; shirt is bamboo knit from Michaels (would not recommend, it was very warped on the bolt and wrinkles like crazy!)

Some holiday sewing! I wanted a white floaty skirt but didn't want the front to be gathered. I used the Saturday Skirt set as the basic design and the added enough fabric to create pleats. I then sewed them down for a nice flat front. I’m back again today with another post - this time with a @fridaypatterncompany #saturdayskirtset made in a beautiful red tomato linen! I originally sewed this for a European trip in early May, but the weather was too cold to justify bringing it along in my carry-on. That being said, I hope to wear this out and about in HSV this summer! • • Fabric and Modifications: @corefabrics Midweight European Linen in Tomato. Based on the listed finished measurements, I originally sewed a size S top and a M bottom, but the skirt ended up WAY too big in the waist so I took it apart and had to recut/resew it into a size S. I also took about 4 inches off of the length of the skirt for a shorter, midi-length skirt. If you’re interested in sewing this yourself, I would advise a muslin/toile version first to test the sizing before cutting into your final fabric. Otherwise, this pattern and project was a piece of cake!

My first entry to #sewaprilblouse25 is what was supposed to be a toile because I don’t love this fabric…except now I’ve made it (and hand sewn the neck binding and waistband), I really do like this little blouse. It’s giving real 40s/50s vintage vibes (hence pairing with my M&S Harper Cigarette jeans which I call my Marilyn jeans as they’re definitely like her Misfit era jeans). Looking at the cute collar I thought a bow or ribbon would look lovely and twee so I tried the drawstring I made for my next project into a bow (because we all know #bowtiesarecool ) So cute! I found the fit of the armscye on this blouse soooo much better than most patterns I’ve tried so I think the Sew Over It block may be a good one for my frame. I wasn’t keen on the split at the waistband though as it didn’t suit me, so I unpicked the waistband and traced the #fridaypatterncompanysaturdayskirtset tie off and sewed it to the permitted up waistband. This worked a treat and I’ll be repeating this for future versions. Thanks to @cloth_edit and @sewn_on_the_tyne for this fabulous challenge. I love a focus to help me make up my mind what to do! Me Made May Day 20: today’s outfit was a bit of an experiment and I’m still not entirely sure about the results! I made this @fridaypatterncompany Saturday skirt late last year and I really like the general vibe of the pattern but I’ve never been super in love with how it sits on my waist and the way the waistband folds over so much. I feel like part of the problem is that the elastic at the back cinches the waistband in too much at the front and it ends up sitting a bit funny as a result. I also think some of it has to do with the fairly big difference in measurement between my hips and waist - most of the versions I’ve admired online have been worn by people with more up and down body shapes. New outfit alert! I eyed off the @fridaypatterncompany Saturday set for months after it launched last year and finally sewed it up in December. It was a very straight forward sew and came together pretty easily across a couple of weekend sewing sessions. When I tried the two garments on, I wasn’t sure about the skirt but loved the top immediately. I’ve worn the top out a couple of times paired with some high waisted jeans, but tonight is the first time I’m wearing the matching set and I’m feeling more and more convinced that it’s a great set. I’m heading out with a friend for dinner and a show tonight so I wanted to dress up a little. I’m really pleased with how the Saturday set has turned out and I am definitely going to get a lot of wear out of them. How many #saturdayskirtset skirts is too many? This is number 4 (I haven’t shown off number 3 yet), because I suddenly felt that I NEEDED a denim one. 😂 I knew I didn’t want bulky denim pockets, but I also didn’t want the pocket fabric to be visible. So I made a denim facing and used off cuts from my Cobra Corsage skirt. End result? Pockets I love that aren’t bulky. I’m actually super pleased with how they came out.
