I'm just waiting on a packet of D rings to finish the belt on this #bernadetteskirt by #fridaypatterncompany with it's cute little belt bag. Already made a #ttvistatop by #twigandtale with the sleeve add-on pattern's cuffed sleeves to use the rest of this fabric. There's another Bernadette Skirt hanging behind it which I suspect will go to a slightly shorter young lady that I know.

Some of you may have seen those videos showing how people get ultra natural pictures smiling like maniacs and jogging on the spot? This me trying it out 😂😂😂😂 . The heat’s really getting to me! 🫠 . There are so many possibilities with the newly launched Works Tank pattern #petheworkstank from @patternemporium_kate, but I have to admit… I only managed to sew one this time! 😅 The wide binding is such a gorgeous detail! Teaming the #vikisews_cynthia and the #bernadetteskirt for day 17 of #memademay2025. For both these makes I didn't pick the right size which stops me from wearing them as much! So I need to alter them a little to push them further up the list. I really like both finished items though - especially this shirt collar and the subtle shape of the skirt. Nelson and I are serving black and white. I made this @seamwork #audryjacket with the most lovely sewing teacher @christinehaynes with @corefabrics denim. I cropped it quite a bit so much so that the Welt pockets ended up not really fitting and I took them out and put in hand sewn inside pockets that are as big as the whole jacket front and carry everything! Hidden pockets are something we get to sew in cause we can! The skirt is upholstery fabric from the back table at beloved @harts_fabric and I experimented with two backs from the @fridaypatterncompany #bernadetteskirt which has some really excellent darts going on and somehow very much make the perfect a line without it riding up. 💚 Nepheline Blouse 💚 First outing for my newly finished @vivianshaochen Nepheline Blouse today and I really loved wearing it for a work day up in London, even if it was a bit chilly and I couldn't risk any other layers for fear of flattening the sleeves. 😂 This is my second Nepheline and it's such a great pattern, it's simple and classic, but with gorgeous design touches - shout out to maybe my favourite ever sleeves! 😍 I bought this fabric from @rainbowfabrickilburn at the @thestitchfestival last month and originally earmarked it for trousers, but changed my mind as per usual. To all celebrating the Lunar New Year, I wish you a year of peace, good health and abundance! 大年初一，祝大家新年快乐，出入平安，身体健康，心想事成！ . This year, the Lunar New Year celebration falls in January, and that doesn’t sit well with sewing plans because I am typically still in Christmas mood right through to end-Jan every year! 😆😆 I was determined to skip the last-minute sewing meltdown this time, so I actually planned ahead! Managed to cut all three shirts and even sew one up before heading off for my year-end vacay! . Of course, I had to throw a wrench in my plans by deciding to sew some bottoms after I finished early. I told myself they were “bonus” projects, and I’d be cool if I didn’t finish them. Who was I kidding? I was already in too deep from go 😆 . I sewed that last pair of jean shorts for Thing 2 literally in the final hour, and of course, I thought to throw in some topstitching. Once you’re that deep into the hole, quitting wasn’t an option - I was in it for life now! 😆 . On hubby and Thing 1: Jensen Shirt from @wardrobebymepatterns. Both are in size L. I shortened 1/2” for Thing 1. Hubby’s measurements are closer to XL, but I decided on size L with a Full Abdomen Adjustment, and the fit is perfect! . Thing 2 is in Birch Button-Up from @sewalittleseam in size 14, shortened by 1”. His bottoms is the Super Tough Jeans Shorts from @sucobysusana in size 13, shortened about 1/2”. The adjustable waistband from the inside is excellent! Denim is from Teoh Huat Textiles. . I am wearing Hysope Cropped Top from @deer_and_doe_patterns and Bernadette Skirt from @fridaypatterncompany (see previous posts for deets). . I made all the batik tops from 3 pieces of 2m each from @leeann.textiles. . So there you have it! I somehow pulled off sewing all these amazing shirts and bottoms, and honestly, I’m kinda impressed with myself. *Cue self-high-five and a proud pat on the back! . Fabric sewn in 2025: +7m (11.5m)

Midi skirts are becoming somewhat of a rage in my wardrobe. Here, I made the Bernadette Skirt from @fridaypatterncompany thinking to pair it with my Hysope top (last post). . This skirt is different from many others that I have made because I wanted something more fitted and higher-waisted. The skirt is fastened with an invisible zip and without any elastic - this I consider one level up for my sewing ability because I may mess up the fit. I am happy to share that the fit is very true to size! . My only grouse - the skirt doesn’t have pockets because of the side zip, but that didn’t stop me from hacking one pocket on the side that is free 😝 My brain has to work extra hard to deal with the asymmetry haha. The pattern does, however, compensate for this lack of pockets with a very cute belt bag, which I have cut but have yet to make. I am looking forward to it! . I loved the denim skirt on the model from first sight, and I had a very similar fabric in this linen cotton denim from @withtheweave to shamefully replicate it! It has the perfect weight to hold up the structure as how I wanted the skirt to be. . It is my first time trying to topstitch, and I made a mistake winding the bobbin with the same thread. The final stitches are not too shabby after I corrected the bobbin thread issue, but I think they can be better. Any tips? Could it be that I used wrong thread (swipe to last pic). It did say topstitching on shelf … . New skirt for the new year! Yay me! Photo 1 is worn without the belt, photo 2 with. Many styling options! . Oh! Power suit of DREAMS 🩷🖤 When @fridaypatterncompany put a call out for people to walk the catwalk at @thestitchfestival , I decided to put myself forward, despite it being wayyyy out of my comfort zone. As you probably know, I’m a HUGE Friday Pattern Co fan and have sewn the majority of their patterns, but I wanted to sew up something new for this occasion. I had a vision - a 90s / Clueless inspired suit using the #HeatherBlazer & #BernadetteSkirt and I knew that @1stforfabrics had the PERFECT fabric ~ A fuchsia pink & black houndstooth 🩷🖤 This was my first time making the Heather Blazer, but what a brilliant sew. I enjoyed every minute and it was a great entry in to sewing this style of garment, which was definitely new to me. I made a Size Medium (my measurements are 36/28/38 and I’m 5ft6”) and I think it’s pretty much the perfect fit. I usually have to make a broad shoulder adjustment on patterns but I measured the pattern pieces beforehand & decided it wasn’t necessary. I decided to keep the lining simple and just used a black lining fabric, also from @1stforfabrics The skirt is the #BernadetteSkirt - a pattern I’ve made once before and loved. Again I made a M, but I think I could have gotten away with the S. I wear mine super high waisted, so I needed the belt bag to cinch it in. Speaking of the #BernieBeltBag ~ how cute?! I opted for a plain black cotton drill (again from @1stforfabrics ) as I knew the houndstooth would be too thick. I love how it stands out and adds a contrast. The super cute heart button is @beckys_sewing_studio It’s amazing how your clothing can make you feel. I actually got a little emotional on Saturday morning when I looked in the mirror - I felt SO good in this outfit. I felt confident, powerful, stylish. And getting so many people coming up to me to compliment me on it - including the style queen that is @suzysankeystudio - was just the icing on the cake. The catwalk itself was a brilliant experience - being surrounded by so many inspirational makers and such a supportive audience was just amazing. my tết fit is complete ❤️🐍 happy lunar new year // chúc mừng năm mới to all who celebrate 🧧🎊 i had a lot of fun sewing up this set, mostly bc i had only planned to make a fun pleated skirt, then realized i had enough leftover fabric to make coordinating top & got to work❣️ i was kindly gifted this fine twill from @wearethefabricstore through their brand ambassador program & it does not disappoint i made the @fridaypatterncompany #bernadetteskirt w some HACKS 🤗 sz XS midi length w 3/8” removed from the waist edges & 2.5” removed from length. the skirt is originally designed w 2 pleats on either side, but i decided to go asymmetrical & move one pleat over to make 3 on one side & omitted the remaining pleat on the right side. this twill has the tiniest bit of stretch & i found it nearly impossible to sew the waistband facing down so i gave up & just left it unsewn 😅 i also doubled the belt length & left out the D rings & bag 🤗 the top is a fast & loose self drafted sample of a modern take on the classic áo dài ~ there are MANY fitting issues i encountered along the way, but it still came out wearable so i’m gonna keep wearing it 😂 fun features include an inverted box pleat w/a back yoke, turn-back sleeve hems, super subtle side split hems, 3 front ties, & a mandarin band collar wishing you all good health, prosperity, and peace in the year of the snake 🐍❤️ #memade #lnyfit #lny #sewistsofinstagram #happynewyear [Image ID in alt text]

A year ago I kept falling over & was in so much pain, thanks to MS & arthritis which are not a good combination, but today I climbed an almost vertical Tor on Dartmoor- Sheepstor above Burrator Reservoir. We came back down the gentler way because I’m not quite sure of my knee strength yet, but all these months of cold water swimming and hiking are paying off. This is the southern end of Dartmoor and beyond the reservoir in the 4th photo you can see Cornwall in the distance, trying to emerge from the fog. Not a bad spot to eat our white bean soup! We also walked the full length of the reservoir along the shore. Wearing a cardigan I knitted a few years ago in Rowan Felted Tweed DK. I got the idea from a pattern I saw. It’s just a basic cardigan with random intarsia spots. A great way to use up leftovers. I’m also wearing my @fridaypatterncompany #bernadetteskirt in some lovely denim from @stonefabrics and @whitestuffuk tights. I was attracted to this pattern because i figured it would be the perfect skirt for walking in, and it really is! Oh, and my wonderful @vivobarefoot hiking boots. For my latest Minerva Makers project I was lucky enough to be gifted some of their exclusive cotton sateen. I’ve used the ‘peacock nebula’ print to make a @fridaypatterncompany #bernadetteskirt. The sateen had a lot more drape than other cotton sateens I’d used previously, so I decided to make the midi length option of the skirt. The whole process was an absolute joy as the fabric was so easy to work with and I’m still yet to find a Friday Pattern Company pattern I don’t love! I’m really into skirts at the moment, which is great because there seem to be new skirt patterns coming out all the time! This one is the #bernadetteskirt, made in a plaid corduroy I bought at the beginning of the year to make something for winter. It feels like I’ve missed that window this year, but I’m sure once false spring gets blown away by the classic Wellington “true spring” southerlies I’ll be glad to have this one finished! I made a size M, and the fit is really nice. I’m not 100% sold on the little belt bag, I’m considering opening up the left side seam and slipping a pocket in there. Bernadette’s first venture out in to the Great British summer! 💛 When I first started the Bernadette skirt I had hoped I’d be wearing it with cute summer tees and sanders but alas, here we are in jacket territory again! 😭 Nevertheless I decided to give it a wear and really do like this skirt pattern, I definitely think it needs the little belt to cinch it in a little / keep it on the waist, but I don’t mind having a little ease as it allows for tucking in jumpers - or for big lunches 😋 Full details on my first post, but this is a size small (29” waist) - would definitely advise checking the finished measurements on this pattern as I measured as medium but glad I sized down as I think it would have been a bit too roomy. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that if it doesn’t have statement sleeves, then I don’t want it 🙅🏼‍♀️ As soon as I saw the sleeves in the Petunia Blouse, I knew I *had* to make it!! @fridaypatterncompany have done it again! Another fantastic pattern! I bought this Bernadette Skirt pattern last year and only found the absolutely perfect denim to make it last week in @stonefabrics. I am really picky about denim - the shade and the weight has to be absolutely perfect for the project in hand and last year I didn’t find it, but now I finally have. I cannot praise this pattern enough. I absolutely love the shape of the skirt and the way it hangs, plus the fact that it’s plain flat at the back, so I don’t look like a lampshade from the side, if you know what I mean 🤣. I love the little bag too and as we were just about to take a train trip down to Cornwall for the day, I was able to put my iPhone and bank cards and tissues in it and travel without a bag for once, hurrah. Anyway, thank you lovely Friday people for what is the best denim skirt I’ve had in years. I used 6oz indigo denim and it’s perfect for winter hiking with tights and hand knit socks (these are in #zauberball from @looplondonloves in Islington from our visit). I will post photos of Looe tomorrow morning. We walked miles today in the cold air so I’m too tired now, but I’ve included pictures from when our train went over the old #royalalbertbridge designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel which was opened by Prince Albert in 1859. It’s a much painted and sketched bridge and spans the River Tamar as you leave Plymouth travelling east into Cornwall. You can see Plymouth city in the last photo, through the train window. Just realised I totally forgot to share this make! So, here is Bernadette 💙🖤 This adorable skirt pattern was released by @fridaypatterncompany last year, and if you know me, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of FPC - genuinely think they can do no wrong! So obviously I had to try it…and December’s @sewhayleyjane fabric seemed like the perfect match! It may be giving slight school uniform vibes, but I’m ok with that 😂 Now, my insistence on pattern matching meant this was a slightly longer project than it should have been. But I’m glad I took the time to match the checks - it would have annoyed me forever if I hadn’t! The Bernie beltbag - what a gorgeous addition! But he deserves a post all of his own tomorrow 😉 In terms of sizing, I made the Medium (which was a tad smaller than my body measurements, but the ideal size for me based on the finished measurements). As it happened, the waist ended up a little loose as I lost an inch from my waist in January 🤦🏽‍♀️ But the belt cinches it in nicely for me. I’m just shy of 5 ft 6” and made the short version, with no alterations. I’m very happy with the finished length on me 😀 I definitely plan on at least another Bernadette, probably in a plain fabric to increase its versatility. Have you made it yet? Any plans to? The Bernadette skirt by @fridaypatterncompany 💛 After seeing a few gorgeous versions of this skirt on Instagram the last few weeks I decided it was time to give it a go myself! I’m a 28” waist which put me at a size medium, but looking at the finished measurements I thought a small would be better for the fit I wanted (small is a 29” waist) and that was definitely the right call as with the belt it’s a perfect fit! I used 1m of yellow cotton I had in my stash and quickly realised I was going to need to line it as it was a little too sheer for a skirt(!) I doubled up on the layers as opposed to create a separate lining based on a quick look through the instructions and I think it worked out well. Here’s a little more information about my latest tester for @fridaypatterncompany and their new pattern, the #BernadetteSkirt … The skirt comes in two lengths, I opted for the Mini Skirt but I’m going to try the Midi length soon. For the skirt, I’ve used a @rubystarsociety Sarah Watts “Florida” design in Cotton that I bought from @preya_and_the_patterns destash! It holds the pleats at the back and the darts at the front really well. My measurements put me in the 5X for my waist and then graded out to 6X for my hips. And I’m happy with the fit. The length of the skirt is cut as is, it’s not been lengthened or shortened. I’d say this particular would suit a confident beginner. For those with experience, I think it would take maximum fours hours to sew up, possibly less, It’s a nice sew! There’s a lovely wee zip up purse that comes with belt loops that attach onto the belt - I’ve done matchy matchy! There’s so much scope to make loads in different fabrics, plain or patterned.
