The perfect summer FO 💛 As soon as I saw @fiafiayarns share about the Sunny Linen yarn they got in from Majo Garn, I knew it needed to be a @jamesnwatts summer pattern. 🙌🏼 Then James released the new Look At My Holes Boxy pattern which looked like the most perfect fit for the yarn and season. 🙌🏼 THEN James announced a KAL which was the perfect excuse for me to knit it up asap! So here it is, the #LookAtMyHolesBoxy in size XXL. That size gives me about 15” of positive ease at the chest. I knit my twisted rib hem super tight while anxious so it cinches in which I did not intend 🤣, but I don’t mind! It’s still cute. 🤓 Now I’ll need to knit several more mesh patterns for summer because this feels amazing to wear, especially over my #twinlakestwopiece swim top & my #swswilla shorts. 🙌🏼 Perfect summer outfit unlocked 🔓. Today I’m sharing my first version of the #twinlakestwopiece in this super cute pointelle undies/loungewear set.🧵🫶🏻 Such a quick project that feels extra special as my first go at making a bra and underwear. (I don’t know why I waited so long!) I chose this pointelle fabric because of its’ stretch and great recovery, and super cute print!🌺 I decided to size up mainly because I’m very picky when it comes to bra’s and I cannot handle anything too tight or restrictive.😆 But looking back I definitely could have stuck with a size Small and just gone off the measurements stated within the pattern. I did end up needing to bring the side seams of the undies in just a tad.👍🏻 This was such a satisfying project and is perfectly suitable for a beginner. I love the elastic band underneath the bra giving it more of a bralette feel, and the fact that the underwear has ZERO elastic. So comfortable! I’m not very body confident but when I put it on I felt so good in the Jia, I just had to share. I’ve not have the opportunity to take proper styled pictures thanks to British summer weather being absolutely terrible BUT as soon as the sun shines I’ll be heading to the beach 🏖️ ☀️ For reference I made a Mand graded to a large at the bum! ✨The Twin Lakes Two Piece✨ It’s been about a year since the launch of this pattern by @fridaypatterncompany and I wanted to repost it on my current body because I had archived my original post from a year ago! The pattern // This two piece set can be a swimsuit or an undergarment set. The top pattern comes with options for a B/C and C/D cup top and the bottoms have options for hipster or mid rise as well as full butt or thong cut. The top features darts for easy pattern adjusting & the bottoms are comfortable and elastic-free aka no pinching or digging in. It is unlined but there are instructions on how to add a lining if you want to. Pattern sizing is XS-7X, for 32”-60” bust & 34”-63” hip body measurements. My make // I made this suit a year ago when my body measured into the 3X size. Pictured is the hipster rise, full butt coverage, C/D top pattern, it’s all unlined. I made zero mods to the pattern as written/drafted. My body measurements now put me into the size 2X so when I remake another one I’ll make the smaller size and probably the mid-rise bottoms for a slightly higher rise. Current measurements: 49”-42”-52”. This suit still fits me great even though it has less negative ease than intended fit suggests. It helps that I can adjust the straps too. I like the simple construction and silhouette of this set. I used last 2023 swim fabric from @blackbirdfabrics Recycled Nylon Swim Tricot in Watermelon Rind to make the suit. Absolutely love this swim fabric and I still have enough left to make another piece, maybe a rashguard 👀. #bfswim #blackbirdfabrics Anyway, I felt like I needed to repost the suit (sans my face) on the grid for representation on my body type. had the most lovely weekend finding joy in hobbies and ignoring chores (namely sewing lil swimsuits and playing the fiddle) @fridaypatterncompany released the #twinlakestwopiece on Friday and by Sunday I had these cute lil sets. I don’t think I’ve bought and made a pattern so quickly before before! Swimwear might just be my favourite thing to sew. 😊 I made a straight size small (C/D) and was pleased to find it fit pretty well straight out of the packet. The second time around (pink with purple trim) I raised the neckline and lengthened the top just a smidge and lined with powernet. I also used 3/4 inch elastic for the top underbust band as that’s what I had on hand. I’m looking forward to trying out the pattern again as a lil undies set. Bonus - I also got around to sewing a lil #sommarcamisole I’ve had cut out on my ironing board for a week. yay!

Lots of time in the sewing swamp lately. I set myself the goal of making one item of clothing a month this year, but didn't realise I'd binge and meet my goal by June 🙈 Here are a few of my favourite things: 1. I’ve been loving my blended #twinlakestwopiece and #vernazzatwopiece swimsuit this summer and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Thought I would share some details about the fit (which is perfect by the way!). Number one rule of sewing swimwear is make sure you have a stretch needle, not a jersey needle. I learned this the hard way. Using a jersey needle in spandex will give you lots of skipped stitches. Thankfully I figured this out and spared myself a lot of grief! As for the fit, I knew the Twin Lakes bottoms were a bit too cheeky for my liking for swimwear so instead I chose the Vernazza pattern for those. At first fitting there was way too much length in the crotch and wonky drag-lines but I was able to fix that by simply removing about one inch. The rest was smooth sailing! I love the Twin Lakes top as swimwear because it’s soooo comfortable. Literally the most comfortable swimsuit I’ve ever worn. I had no issues with the actual fit other than the straps being a tad too long which was an easy fix. I opted to line it with some spandex that I think is also meant for dance-wear and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t need to add bra cups at all. Fun little detail is the print I chose was inspired by my husband’s recent work trip he took to Arizona. I used a tiny remnant of cotton pointelle from my shop @heysewsister.co.uk (honestly it was like less than 50cm I’d say?!) which made this cute undies set but I would definitely make it out of swim fabric next time! I made a XS on top and S on bottom according to my measurements on the size chart but I think I would actually make an S on top and XS on bottom next time (i.e. size up on top and size down on bottoms). Sewing goals met! Woohoo!! I will never buy a RTW swim suit again cause I just made my first bathing suit🤩 the most comfortable one ever!! @fridaypatterncompany has yet to steer me wrong and #twinlakestwopiece came out solid. I bought the swim fabric, lining, and power mesh @millendstorepdx . First time working with swim fabric, it is a bit to get used to but a walking foot made all the difference. I used power mesh between the outer fabric and lining on the top (size 2xl, no mods) they are not kidding when I say it holds things in. The bottoms are size xxl, no mods, and no power mesh. Making my own clothes that fit me, my body, and my curves has done more for my confidence than expected. I made a swimsuit! This is the @fridaypatterncompany #twinlakestwopiece in size small. I got the fabric and swim elastic from @costurasecretshop and swim lining from @gingertea.es . I really like the fit of the bottoms and the coverage in the front so I'll definitely make them again with a different top. The construction is simple and I love that the bottoms don't have elastic, but I wish the seams were enclosed on the bra. It's comfortable and passes the pool/play test, and I've worn it a bunch already.

Spent today with my lovely Mum, sewing up my first wee underwear set!!! Feels weird posting- but it’s also just like a bikini??? Sooo?? What’s with that feeling 😵‍💫 Anyway- this is the #twinlakestwopiece by @fridaypatterncompany The top fits peeerfectly, I made a small based on my measurements. I made a medium of the bottoms, based on my waist size but I don’t like the fit of them at all! I need to selvage them somehow, and work on the fit. I’d love to make a swim set for summer 🩷 their sew-along made it so easy to construct, just took a lot of time and patience. Knits will be my friend soon, I have so many ideas for cute tops but it’s a whole different ballgame sewing with stretch fabric 😅 🪡🧵
