Make the wearable toiles! 💕 Whenever I have a new pattern to try out I take a trip to @material_happiness to find the perfect fabric. Reuse stores are such a great place to find affordable supplies for new patterns and play with fabrics you might not otherwise buy. When I found this floral I knew I needed to go for a Damson Madder vibe (still obsessed) and it came out so good! It’s giving “grandma’s couch” in the best way. I also picked up the buttons from @remainders_creative_reuse in LA making this a fully thrifted make. I have ZERO inspiration for summer sewing currently… I think it’s a mixture of too much fabric choice, not enough wardrobe space for new garments and wanting to enjoy my me mades from last summer without adding more options! Saying that, I am currently working away on a couple of bags, messing about altering some patterns I already have and probably/maybe/definitely making my 5th coe trouser 😂😍 all to come…! 🧵 For now, I give you last years co-ord (that I’ve only just got round to photographing)! Heavily inspired by a lady at the airport last summer donning a a very similar style! 🧵 Whilst I am still not overly loving the trousers, I do love the shirt and have worn this lots with other items! Whilst they are a satisfying sew, they do feel like quite a wide baggy leg for me and I had to mess around with the inseam and rise to get them to fit better but I’m still not overly sold, looks like some more playing for next time! 🧵 The shirt is the @fridaypatterncompany Butano button up, which I brought not long after making the Jenna shirt, and whilst they are both very similar there are some little details that differ nicely! Butano Button Up 2.0 👔 As if one blue and white stripe shirt weren’t enough, I’ve made another one! This pattern is such a staple and is a perfect layer for summer evenings. This was a much faster make than my first one - in particular I noticed that I felt more confident on the collar and sleeve cuff construction, which felt very satisfying! presenting my new daily top - the #butanobuttonup 🤪 made in @blackbirdfabrics checked linen, an absolute dream (and despite my worries, the staystitching worked a dream around collar/arm holes). made a straight size S - only mods were to shorten so it hits hip height on me, and to add bias binding to the sleeve seams / french seams to the sides because I love a clean finish 🤭🤭

My latest sew, the #butanobuttonup by the @fridaypatterncompany Made in a remnant heavy-weight corduroy, Roger Currant, from @potter_and_co_australia with Howie Corozo 15mm buttons from @merchantandmills via P&Co. OMG how cute is the (optional) neckerchief?! It actually runs through three loops on the collar stand underneath the collar, which you can just glimpse in the last pic. Thinking to make the neckerchief in a different fabric so it pops a little more, let me know if you have any suggestions of what would suit maroon cord, along with any ideas for how to wear/tie a neckerchief?! The shirt also features a cool back pleat & locker loop, and this long-sleeved version also features a bound placket and cuff. And it has length … finally a shirt that covers my ass, well most of it anyways, lol! This was my first time sewing thick corduroy and I’m not going to lie, it was a bitch at times. It certainly tested Dottie (my sewing machine, named for my maternal Nan) and I’s patience! On a positive though, I only broke one needle! It is certainly warm on, so definitely a winter wear, thankfully which has just arrived in Perth! 🌧️ I have also made a short-sleeved lighter version which I will post separately.

This is the coord of dreams! I made this over a month ago and it’s been so hard not sharing because I love it so much. This is the Bahama viscose and linen from @fabricgodmother and is part of their Desert Island collection. The print is everything - I love big bold fabrics and this leaf print is reminiscent of some of my favourite designers. The fabric has a lovely weight but isn’t too heavy and the mix of fibres means it doesn’t crease too much. I knew I wanted to make something relaxed and chic that could be worn on holiday or out to lunch. I’ve seen a lot of shirt/trousers coords recently and wanted to make a cool set. I chose to use two patterns from @fridaypatterncompany. The first is my trusty Saguaro pants - I’ve made so many of these and never get tired of them. I decided to pair them with the Butano button up. It was my first time making the Butano - I didn’t toile it as I was confident that the fit would be right. I did shorten the length by a few inches but that was my only modification. I love the details on this shirt - the little loop on the back elevates it perfectly. Both patterns sewed up beautifully and I LOVE the result! I was given the fabric as part of the @fabricgodmother ambassador programme and I’ll also be paid for this post. 🍋 Butano Button Up 🍅 This fabric is called "Meze" and is from the Dolce Vita collection by @fabricgodmother I'm pinching myself that I get to be a fabric ambassador for them! I love the entire collection but couldn't go past this cute food one. I've been on a roll with shirt making at the moment, and I chose the @fridaypatterncompany Butano Button Up to showcase this fabric. I LOVE the neck tie detail. The fabric is a viscose+linen blend and sewed up really nicely. #memademay2025 Day 17 is my first #butanobuttonup that I made last summer by @fridaypatterncompany in cotton voile. I planned this as a beach cover up, but voile sticks to wet skin so it was impractical. This is a straight M with French seams, three buttons, and a bias bound hem. I love this shirt and the cute cacti, but sewing with this lightweight fabric was tough and I had to put this project down a lot. I'm obsessed with the neckerchief, it's really the coolest little detail. I hope to make one with short sleeves for summer. #fpcmemademay #fridaypatterncompany #memademay

The #butanobuttonup by the @fridaypatterncompany Made in the ‘Sky’ blue and white stripe Japanese Supima cotton seersucker from @potter_and_co_australia with ‘bright blue’ 15mm organic cotton buttons from @merchantandmills via P&Co. I have to say I have fallen in love with seersucker, the cotton has a crinkly feel but is also light and strong at the same time. This is the short-sleeved version of the Butano Button Up (see my earlier post for long-sleeved version in maroon corduroy). Featuring cute neckerchief which runs through loops on the collar stand, chest patch pocket, folded sleeve cuffs, and back pleat with locker loop. It has a relaxed, oversized fit - though I also made it in the large size to be sure - plus it has good length! Love me a comfy shirt. 🍋 Butano Button Up 🍅 Just a little zoom in one some of the details of this shirt. The neck tie, obviously, but I don't often wear shirts buttoned right to the top so time will tell whether I wear it more like this or more as a hair bow. Also, the reason I'm obsessed with shirt making: the cuffs. Wanted to get at least one #memademay share in! Yesterday’s fully me made fit with my recently finished, extremely neon Butano shirt. I made it a little too small but too fun not to wear. Feeling very proud of the good, slow sewing I did to get nice contrast with the yellow topstitching and generally to do a nice job on all the details. Definitely my most successful more technical make. This is still the best shirt I’ve made so far - the @fridaypatterncompany #butanobuttonup. I pattern matched the pocket almost perfectly, but then cut out the collar upside down 🙃 - oh well! I'm finally getting around to documenting more of my makes! This outfit was slowly cobbled together over the last year. 👖@fridaypatterncompany #ramblerpants made in a teal twill with bright red top stitching. I didn't mod this pattern at all, though I think they may now be a size smaller than my measurements. They fit great and are very comfortable. I wear them alllll the time at work because they have a ton of roomy pockets. 👕#butanobuttonup made in a shirting fabric with pearl snaps instead of buttons. I have kind of odd proportions so I went off my hip measurements and removed the bust darts. It generally fits well & I really like the collar shape & all the fun little details within the design. 🦺@newcrafthouse #everydaywaistcoat made in scraps from the other two pieces. I heavily modded it--making the size to my measurements, but taking it in at the side seams because I found it was too oversized for my needs. Instead of binding the raw edges with bias tape I made a lining with facings & used a method that hides all my raw edges. Xoxo kag

#butanobuttonup in deadstock denim shirting from #corefabrics from a while ago. I did end up going up a size and was so much happier with the fit. Many of my usual adjustments 😁 I am very pleased! My shirting was a little on the heavier side and I did pause before going forward with it but I’m glad I did. There are plenty of layers that built up during the sew and I went up in needle size and used a jumper to help in those spots. I’m glad I (mostly) kept calm and carried on. I actually didn’t think this pattern would work for me at first. I’m glad there is a happy ending. A note about construction, the collar application instructions may not please the more experienced sewist. Every couple years I go on a button-up shirt making kick, despite the fact that I rarely wear button-up shirts. I love them in theory (crisp white cotton? Yes, please), but always feel like Jerry Seinfeld in the Puffy Shirt episode when I wear them. Maybe because I mostly tend to wear knit tops? Is this a case of a well-defined personal style, or being very stuck in a boring clothing rut? Regardless, the is the Friday Pattern Company Butano in crisp cotton poplin that I scored from the remnants basket at Ewe Fine Fiber Goods. I made it in a virtual class with Christine Haynes last year. This is the first time I’ve worn it.
