It’s cold, and I needed some more warm tops, so I decided to use a remnant of merino and add some sleeves to the #dewtop to make something to keep me cosy at work! It was pretty straightforward to add the armscye of the Nikko top onto the Dew bodice, but I wish I had added a bit of length to the shoulder seam when I traced it off. I didn’t think about the fact that the Nikko is drafted to sit so close to the chest across the front, but the cowl neck from the Dew would benefit from a bit more fabric to decrease the tension created by the sleeves across the front bodice and help with the drape of the cowl. Lesson learned for next time! What a lovely quick sew. This is the @fridaypatterncompany #dewdress but the #dewtop version. A quick toile with some not as precious fabric to test size and technique. This is an L. My bust is currently 96cm, the L range is 95-99. I like the fit at the bust. I shortened the pattern by 5cm because I’m only 5’1. My hip is 95cm, which puts me in the M range. As a top, I think the hip is a bit too roomy on my frame with this L sizing. Something to think about when I make the dress version. I think I probably will slim the hip a touch for that, although it will no doubt drape better. This is a cotton elastane from Spotlight. My next fabric is a lovely modal….I used the recommended 2.5 x 2.5 zig zag stitch throughout. I have a serger (currently has cream thread), and a coverstitch (didn’t even take the cover off to check 😁). I felt like keeping it simple 😉 I bought this pattern because of a v neck drapey knit dress I have had for 15 years that ALWAYS gets compliments. It’s a dream to wear. I expect the Dew dress will be the same. It’s a bit of a humid day here today, with a nice breeze. We’re still early summer. I’m not totally sure I’ll want to wear a cowl neck with doubled over fabric at the height of summer. The sleeveless-ness and cowl neck may be slightly at odds for that moment. Great sun protection for the décolletage, however! But for now it’s easy wearing and elevated from a straight t-shirt. I might tinker with the width of the shoulder, as my bra strap does peek out the tiniest bit, or I’ll just make a bra with the straps set in closer (oh the power! @studioofsewing 😁🙌). One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was how well the armscye fits relative to my bra. I thought it looked quite long on the models and was expecting bra peeking, but that hasn’t particularly eventuated 👍 Looking forward to seeing more versions of this pattern hit the grid. Day 20/31 #MeMadeMay25 New Make and a double Friday Pattern Co! Ok, let’s get to the new make first shall we? I was kindly gifted this pattern with no obligation to post by @fridaypatterncompany and it’s the #DewTop It’s a knit top with a slight difference at the neckline and that’s it has a cowl neck and it also has a high-lo hemline. Me Made May Day 3 and suitcase living day Me Made May Day 5 and day 5 suitcase living. Leaving Miyajima for Osaka. I loved being on Miyajima and feel there was still more to explore on the island which just means I’ll have to come back another time. I made this dress back in February and once I’d finished it I knew it was destined for the suitcase. I initially wasn’t sure about my fabric and pattern pairing but I’d just purchased this pattern, gotten it printed and really wanted to make it. I was and still am so happy I went with my gut and paired them together. I would have made more of these dress for travelling but my self imposed fabric ban meant I didn’t as I couldn’t find any knit suitable in my stash. This dress sewed up so quickly and as per usual the instructions are clear and easy. Now the fabric ban is over I will be getting some more knit fabric for another versions. I AM the love of my life...ty @violadavis for the reminder. The blessings of being in this wilderness season is knowing come heck or high water you gotta do it by yourself and for yourself. I'm not saying I don't have an amazing circle but there are times no one can do it but you. I've cried more on the last 2 years than I've ever cried. I've released the grieving of a broken marriage, fractured family ties, abandonment, abuse , neglect, self doubt and heart break. I've silenced the anger and sabotage ( at the very least acknowledging & working thru it). I have more work to do, but it's so Wonderful realizing I am worth it and deserving. #dewtop Last weekend, I cut out several projects ready to sew while at Saturday Sewcial. Got home. Realised my overlocker was threaded black (all my projects needed white), so raided the stash and whipped up this top. It's a quick sew. I did take an inch off the hem, and would shorten it properly next time as I am a tucker. I would also take an inch wedge out of the back neck next time as it's a bit hunchbacky. My measurements put me across two sizes, so I made the smaller size and I am happy with the fit (no gaping at arms). Better get into the 🎄 🎁 sewing, but there will be more of these in my future. A wee May Sewing Projects Photoshoot while the sun is out. 1) Green top made with #dewtop pattern from @fridaypatterncompany with added sleeves 2) Yellow top with same pattern, I like it and will make again, a lot. 3) Cross body bag, I can put things in it and zip them up. Made with scraps from previous quilted projects. 4) Shorts. Made of curtain fabric not intented for garments, very scratchy 😞, will not wear without under shorts again. Not particularly happy with the fit either tbh, "shocked to discover that the process of trial and error involves error" etc etc. 5) Colour block trousers, fabric from vinted, using the pattern I always make trousers / shorts out of. Not enough fabric for a full pair of trousers from either colour but necessity is the mother of invention so we have v cool colour block troos.

April 2025: This may be the softest thing I’ve made so far. The whole time I was making this top I just kept thinking about how soft this fabric is. And this fabric with this pattern is just perfect. This top came together so quickly! I thought the neckline would be tricky but it is so straightforward and easy to do. It’s a very satisfying project. I’ll need to try out the dress version! Back to the fabric. It has such a nice drape and texture. It was much easier to work with than I was expecting. Oh, and did I mention that it’s incredibly soft? Long overdue is a post about @victoriafrocktails! It has been two weeks and I’m still buzzing. I was thrilled to be in a room of about 200 sewers, of all ages, gawking at, touching, and generally in awe of everyone’s outfits. Truly an inspiring event and I’m so grateful for our organizers and I cannot wait until next year. This set I made back in November for a “semi-formal” dance party, so I was going for practical, exercise proof and a bit dressy. Over the last year, I finished 12+ knitting projects. I did not meet my Ravelry Challege, but that's okay. This isn't as many as I have finished in previous years either, but I've started getting back into sewing, and diy-ing for our wedding, so my time has been filled with other creative endeavors. After this hectic year of making things, I want to start enjoying the process of knitting because I enjoy knitting, not just the final result. I have gotten caught up in the Ravelry Challenge number I set for myself and thinking that I need to finish projects as fast as other knitters on Instagram, but I work in an office for 8+ hours a day and have other responsibilities and projects. I can't knit for 10+ hours a day like I could during Rona-college times or like I could if it was my full-time job. Progress is still progress. #MeMadeMay2025 Day 27! New pants! I made this toile of the @paradisepatterns #proteapants at Sewaway on the weekend! Fabric is a cotton linen doona cover I got from an op shop. I wasn’t sure they’d be wearable but success! I wore this today for work, they held up well and didn’t wrinkle too badly! Only modification was taking a wedge out of the centre back seam as they’re a bit big in the waist. Next time I’ll add a cm or two at the hips, as they’re a touch tight at the bottom of where the pocket attaches. They look fine but it pulls there a little if I put both hands in my pockets. Top is a hacked @fridaypatterncompany #Dewtop, I’ve made it significantly more fitted and added a shelf bra, so no bound armholes. It came together really quickly and I loved the construction of the cowl neck. But with a fluctuating body shape and limited time, I eventually decided to try elasticated trousers instead. They're really oversized, but so comfortable. I'm honestly very happy with them. I tried making the tie in denim but it was too thick, so I used cotton instead. I shortened by 1.5cm, but otherwise no adjustments. I love this outfit. As soon as this fabric dropped through my door I washed and sewed it up straight away. The is a #minervaexclusivefabric called #sewingsorority and comes on loads of bases but I chose a French terry. I don’t know when I missed the #dewdress by #fridaypatterncompany being launched but I stumbled across it the other day and knew it would be perfect. Me Made May Day 3 and suitcase living day Me Made May Day 5 and day 5 suitcase living. Leaving Miyajima for Osaka. I loved being on Miyajima and feel there was still more to explore on the island which just means I’ll have to come back another time. I made this dress back in February and once I’d finished it I knew it was destined for the suitcase. I initially wasn’t sure about my fabric and pattern pairing but I’d just purchased this pattern, gotten it printed and really wanted to make it. I was and still am so happy I went with my gut and paired them together. I would have made more of these dress for travelling but my self imposed fabric ban meant I didn’t as I couldn’t find any knit suitable in my stash. This dress sewed up so quickly and as per usual the instructions are clear and easy. Now the fabric ban is over I will be getting some more knit fabric for another versions. Inside pics for a super rainy #memademay2025 day 20. Wearing a new #dewdress by @fridaypatterncompany over a merino #mollytee . I love this dress! This is a size medium which I made based on my bust measurement. The fabric is a 100% organic cotton jersey that I got at the MN Textile center garage sale. It only has mechanical stretch but it’s enough and I love the body of the fabric with the shape of the dress. (I originally started this with a much drapier fabric and abandoned it for this fabric.) This pattern was fun to make and came together very quickly.

I had an incredibly productive sewing weekend (it was a 3 day weekend for me). Made 4 things from scratch, finished one more complex one and changed two old things… 🤩🤯 Here a sneak peak of the initials and year I stitch into things, finished photos to follow soon. The first is the Vivienne Westwood inspired blazer I finished, a @burdastylegermany pattern somewhat modified, made from a cotton from @drapersfabrics and a silk bathrobe my mum got in China at some point. The second is #pacificpullover from @greenstyle_patterns made with a lovely @albstoffe_performance athletic knit I’ve had in my stash for a while. New long sleeved running top for the cooler weather coming up. The third is a #sewingmachinajens from @sewingmachina. I cut this out aaaaages ago out of this lovely silk twill from @wearethefabricstore , I believe it’s a liberty print. Another one that’s been in my stash for many many years. It’s been earmarked for many other things over the years and it never came to be. This one - match made in heaven. The fourth a #dewdress by @fridaypatterncompany , made with another long time inhabitant of my stash, a super lovely Ponte I got on our last trip to Japan (6 and a bit years ago - hard to believe) from @nomuratailor . I’d been eying the dew dress for a while and bought it yesterday in the sale. It jumped every queue and came together perfectly. More will come. And the last one was an impromptu, last minute finish. A #hosezora by @schnittmuster_berlin made from a very light Ponte I do not remember where I got this, this is a bit that was left from a pair of hang out track pants I made for the other half jonks ago. And this is another one that has been cut for a long time. Super comfy, and only took about 30min to make. I will also make this again to wear out!!!

Whipped this up last night as a treat for making it through the mammoth quilt I made my dad. I gifted that to him yesterday with a very gentle and direct hint to never buy me a quilting pattern again and he must cherish it. I think message landed. I have a rule that I only buy fabric if I have a project in mind to make it so I spent a long time with this green ribbed jersey sitting as an open tab on my phone trying stick to my rule. The Dew dress clicked and hey presto, pay day equals fabric purchase day. This dress has it all, room to bloat, room to do the weeding, perfect aerodynamics for running after a three year old who goes downhill on their bike without a care as to the end point. . One of the easiest sews with the most major chic vibes in my closet is this Dew Dress from @fridaypatterncompany made from deep stash mystery ponte or scuba in a size small. My final garment made at @workroomsocial Camp Workroom Social Wardrobe Week, it went by ridiculously fast and there’s not a thing I would change. Seeing the pictures accompanying the pattern, I was concerned the armhole would drape too low. They tell you how to alter it but I decided to leave it as originally drafted and I was rewarded with a no-bra-band-showing sleeve opening. Phew! I love how the pockets are one piece of fabric per side and sewn to the front of the dress so there are no odd wrinkles from pocket bags not sitting properly. My fabric, which is on the sturdier weightier side, didn’t require hemming - bonus! Heed the instructions telling you not to worry if seams right off the sewing machine are a little wavy, a bit of steam from your iron will likely make them magically disappear. This pic was taken right before heading off to the ballet. See? This pattern can go dressy or casual or both depending on your fabrication. Need a quick sewing win? May 2025: The Dew dress comes together so quickly and is so rewarding. It is so comfortable and I love the big pockets. As always with Friday Pattern Company, the instructions are super easy to follow. For how simple it is, I find this pattern to be fun to sew. What a lovely quick sew. This is the @fridaypatterncompany #dewdress but the #dewtop version. A quick toile with some not as precious fabric to test size and technique. This is an L. My bust is currently 96cm, the L range is 95-99. I like the fit at the bust. I shortened the pattern by 5cm because I’m only 5’1. My hip is 95cm, which puts me in the M range. As a top, I think the hip is a bit too roomy on my frame with this L sizing. Something to think about when I make the dress version. I think I probably will slim the hip a touch for that, although it will no doubt drape better. This is a cotton elastane from Spotlight. My next fabric is a lovely modal….I used the recommended 2.5 x 2.5 zig zag stitch throughout. I have a serger (currently has cream thread), and a coverstitch (didn’t even take the cover off to check 😁). I felt like keeping it simple 😉 I bought this pattern because of a v neck drapey knit dress I have had for 15 years that ALWAYS gets compliments. It’s a dream to wear. I expect the Dew dress will be the same. It’s a bit of a humid day here today, with a nice breeze. We’re still early summer. I’m not totally sure I’ll want to wear a cowl neck with doubled over fabric at the height of summer. The sleeveless-ness and cowl neck may be slightly at odds for that moment. Great sun protection for the décolletage, however! But for now it’s easy wearing and elevated from a straight t-shirt. I might tinker with the width of the shoulder, as my bra strap does peek out the tiniest bit, or I’ll just make a bra with the straps set in closer (oh the power! @studioofsewing 😁🙌). One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was how well the armscye fits relative to my bra. My, already beloved, Dew Dress. Pattern by @fridaypatterncompany . So easy and comfy and also kinda sci-fi😆. I’m gonna wear the heck out of it. Super pocket love.
