It’s been a week since our retreat with @sew_pretty_sew_mindful in Gainsborough, and unfortunately I didn’t take a lot of pictures, but it was an amazing weekend, I made a #noelledress by @bebekinspatterns in a gorgeous gold/yellow broderie anglaise fabric, we played some fun games, Aunty Melanie won a huge amount of FQ’s, I met some new sewing family including Antony, Sue, Melanie and my new niece Sian (@tanyaphillips661) and to top a great weekend off my sewing girls bought me an early birthday present, the mini Tula Pink @olisohome iron 🥰 roll on October ❤️

Why is it that some #sewingpatterns are frustrating to follow, while others make #sewing a joy?  It's not just about providing step by step instructions or having video tutorials (although they help).  It's so much more than that!  It's about all the pieces fitting together, and not having to 'make them fit' or try to figure out what the designer was thinking. It's about allowing the #sewist to try and adjust the #garment along the way, instead of having to wait until the end to see if it'll fit or suit.  It's about explaining complex techniques in the simplest possible way and helping sewists grow their skills as they follow the steps. It's about taking the sewist on a journey so that they make the best use of their time and create a garment they will love.  I feel like patterns by @dressmakingamore do just that!  I have recently created the #dapatterns #noelledress out of a #thrifted #ikea bedsheet.  I loved the pattern, I loved sewing and fitting the dress. Here is my #TopNine2024! As usual, trousers/jeans seem to get the most likes. I love making them as well. I have so many now. These projects are the ones that got the most likes, not necessarily which ones I wear or enjoyed making the most. But sometimes they overlap! I think I've only worn it twice so for because it's mostly for fall/spring when I go into the office.  7) #ArarePullover by @yuki_wafflepatterns. Throwback to a couple weekends ago now at a friend's joint Bachelorette/Bachelor party! Three months ago, I decided to use this ikea bedsheet to make a toile for the #noelledress by @dressmakingamore After seeing my dress, my 6-year-old decided that it was so pretty that she wanted one too. So I promised both girls to make them one for Christmas. To make it similar, it needed to be a #princessseam dress. I used the @littlelizardking #llksydney dress as a basis for the pattern pieces. Making up the sleeves using the instructions provided. I then made the front panels narrower by 2 cm and cut it on the fold. Next, I added 2 cm to the back and didn't cut it on the fold. This allowed me to insert an invisible zip at the back. I then used the instructions for the #noelledress to finish the two dresses. Adding in a freehand sweetheart neckline and lace trim. To keep my promise, I spent Christmas eve finishing the dresses. On Saturday we were invited out to a joint 50th birthday and Anniversary party Ceilidh and got all dressed up for the occasion. My dress is very old and a rtw Lindybop one. I attended a wedding in France this weekend. Here is the dress I made for it! Pattern: #NoelleDress by @dressmakingamore, size 12. I modified it to have a deeper plunge at the center of the sweetheart neckline to get the look I wanted. Other than that, no other mods. I might hem it to be above the knee for regular wear, but since the wedding was in a basilica, I needed my knees to be covered. I also love that it can be worn on the shoulder or off shoulder. Fabric: Recycled Stretch Satin "Vienna" in Burgundy from @fabricville. I cut all pieces on the cross grain in the same direction so everything was cohesive, so the stretch was lost. This was my #ootd for the #sydneyfrocktails2023. The dress is a @dressmakingamore #noelledress with a few modifications. I chose to do a full circle skirt with pockets instead of a gathered skirt, as I love the look of a circle skirt. I then added a gathering of organza to the lining to give the skirt a little bit of volume. In terms of the sleeves, I didn't quite have enought of the @neridahansenfabrics @jiggerjagger.studio design polka dot fabric so instead I used an organza which gave the sleeves a 'big sleeve energy vibe' which I love. I then paired it with a clutch that I made using a free pattern by Lorrie Nunemaker (slightly edited) and a matching pink ribbon. As I was making my way to the #sydneyfrocktails I had a few people on the train say "I love your dress" which really made my day!
