#Memademay2021 Day 11. My lovely swishy #republicduchiffon Annette skirt in #mindthemaker #urbanLeogold. Great all year round and it has pockets, big ones! I’ve been lusting after this fabric for a while and finally caved last month, it feels so nice. I squeezed this out of 1.5m and have just enough left for a cami. Just make sure you use a fresh needle to avoid pulled threads as they really show on this fabric. Oh and I nearly got caught out you need to add your own seam allowance to RDC patterns. Close shave. Apart from that it’s a pretty quick make, their English instructions are well translated. I am in love with this 🌵 circle skirt and super versatile halter top designed by @tailorandtwirl in collaboration with @tatyanaboutique I wore it yesterday at #modphxweek home tour and I got so many compliments! Everyone asked if it was vintage the print really does look hand painted. The fabric doesn’t wrinkle, it has a good swing and a really nice zipper. This halter is really fun too the ties are super long. #annettepattern One last item to tick off my #makenine2024 list was a midi skirt in a black viscose linen. I changed my mind several times about which pattern to use, and I’m really glad I came across the Annette skirt by @republiqueduchiffon in the end. I cut it out weeks ago and finally sewed it up this weekend. I wish I’d had it when the weather was still mild, but hopefully it’ll get me through the colder months with tights and a sweatshirt. This skirt is a great basic piece that I can see getting lots of wear. And I love the big pockets! Vispi ❤️ heinäkuu Vispi is my go-to pullover for July. I have drafted it for Kässäkerho Pom Pom’s Suoma single yarn, which is 100 % Finn sheep wool. Very soft and airy indeed. This cropped bottom-up simple pullover has dropped shoulders and some short row shaping as well. There are moss stitch in the hem and sleeve ribbings, otherwise it’s only stockinette. The high-waist skirt is called Annette from Republique Du Chiffon. I sewed it last summer with some japanese double gauze. Here is another make from a little while ago. It’s the @republiqueduchiffon #annetteskirt I made using the ‘dusty pink’ rayon linen look fabric kindly gifted by @minervadotcom in return for a blog post. I’ve sewn with this type of fabric before and it’s a favourite of mine because of its texture and flow. It’s a bit slippery but manageable. I very carefully choose the garments I want to make, as this is not a sustainable fabric and I want to make sure I will wear it for years. So I make lots of staples and this skirt is one of them. I made this pattern last year and it’s such a great one. Very easy to make (as long as you don’t sew your pockets on upside down!) and will be nice and cool in the summer. I originally planned on making a matching set but quickly learned that that style doesn’t work for me. I think it’s because of my proportions, or maybe I’m just too critical. So, when I saw @handmadebyditsytulip pop up on my feed that very same day with her @tillybuttons #mimiblouse I decided to try it too. And oh my, do I love it! To think I’ve had ‘Love at First Stitch’ sitting on my shelf for years and I’ve never made it! I made a straight size 6 and the fit is perfect. I used some black linen look viscose leftover from a dress so it was a great scrap buster too. Et voilà- I have a ready made outfit for the Summer. Not sure if I’m wearing it anywhere but my garden at home, but I’m cool with that. 😎 More details of the skirt and fabric will be up on the Minerva blog soon. My first me-made outfit! Over the past couple of weeks I’ve made this top and skirt.. The top is another @tillybuttons Stevie, I cropped the sleeves and body slightly. I also made the tie fasteners at the back, which was a fun change. The fabric shows up better on the second photo. The skirt is Annette by @republiqueduchiffon. I love the drape of the fabric, and the buttons/buttonholes were a bit of a learning experience. I think I need to be more precise for these in terms of distance apart and length. My machine doesn’t have a single step function and in worrying they’d be too small I’ve made them a fraction big- it’s fine but a couple come undone slightly easier than I’d like 🙈 I’m sure I’ll be making more of both of these (plus Stevie only takes two naptimes to make which is a bonus 😆). All the fabric and buttons were from @fabricatemirfield- @rubystarsociety for the top and the skirt @atelierbrunette viscose crepe. Philippa has a great system of pre-booked appointments for fabric shopping so it all feels super safe. I’ve finally got the home decor bug out of my system and am firmly back to sewing garments for myself. I bought this @seasaltcornwall needlecord a while back and knew I wanted to make a winter skirt. I love the style of this @republiqueduchiffon #annetteskirt but knew it was a bit risky seeing as it’s a pattern for lightweight fabrics. But I’m glad I took the risk as I think this makes a gorgeous autumn/winter skirt. I think the gathers at the back are a bit bulky and I wish I’d modified it to have a waistband, but I don’t mind. It makes it really comfortable and this is definitely going to be a staple in my wardrobe. I don’t have enough winter skirts and they are so useful. The pattern was really easy to understand and came together in a couple of hours. I graded from a size 44 in the waist to a size 46 in the hip but made no other adjustments. My measurements are below if you’re interested. Definitely recommend this one and I can’t wait to make a summer version too!
