My top 9 liked projects for 2024. Themes: Jeans. I discovered I love jeans with darts and don't enjoy fitting or wearing very rigid denim with no darts. I loved the papercut Sera and Chalk and notch isle jeans patterns but basically haven't worn the Megan Nielsen dawn jeans since this photo! Pink. There is a fair bit of my trusty blue in these photos, but also a lot of bright pink! Trusty patterns. Yay for Megan Nielsen opal pants, the Clo Bias skirt and the Treasurie cap sleeve top patterns. Successes: As stated above - jeans with darts ❤️ Both pairs of wide leg opal pants and cap sleeve tops are super comfy, beginner patterns and gets lots of comments Basics - Linen Clo Bias skirt and Ilford jacket - these are relatively new makes but already go with everything! Failures: The rigid denim Dawn jeans. I love Megan Nielsen patterns but these were very hard to make fit my body and they just aren't comfy! Sort of failures: The Roscoe sweater - the elastic round the bottom made this a comfort failure for me but my 13 year old has inherited it and loves it! My Springe dress - this probably just needs altering round the neckline . It seems gaping is quite a common issue. I'm not confident I will wear it a lot otherwise! Where are my fabrics from: The Fabric Store - gingham line, dark denim, fushcia satin, olya shirt print, pink linen, rigid organic denim and knits for Roscoe. I needed to remake The Olya shirt (after giving the last one to my daughter) I made this in a size 12-which fitted my measurements when looking at the finished size measurements. I extended the sleeves and body length each 5cm, a usual adjustment for my height. This fabric is a Japanese cotton that I bought in Chinaworld Bangkok but didn’t realise it had a border until I got it home. Work in progress photo from an #olyashirt I finished today! This back insert is from a (damaged) framed wool embroidery I found in an op shop years ago, kept in my shed ready to be chopped up and given a new life one day… today was that day! I stitched the wool down to keep it in place (with almost matching thread) and added a bias trim. Absolutely love this make, will take full shirt photos when I get around to it!

I love trees! I was born in a house surrounded by woods, then moved to an old mill in the woods aged 6 and spent much of my childhood running barefoot in the woods playing by myself and with my black Labrador Bess. If only there were more houses built in woodland…. Our new bungalow will be within easy walking distance of woods, so that makes me happy. Still no move date, but despite another hiccup I think we’re getting closer to getting a date. Wearing my @paper_theory Olya Shirt in linen purchased at a Portuguese market a few years ago now and my well-worn M&Mills Heroine jeans which were too big after losing over 28lbs earlier this year. In fact all of my jeans were too big, but I didn’t fancy making a couple more pairs, so I washed them on a long 60oC wash (2 hours) then tumble dried them at the hottest temperature and they fit perfectly now. I thought they would stretch out again with wear but neither have! Mr T is wearing his usual favourite @threadtheorydesigns Jedediah Pants & Carmanah Sweater and M&Mills Allstate shirt. These woods are up on the edge of Dartmoor near Ashburton and we’re at a 40th wedding anniversary party of our besties later. A quick change will be in order. I have a bunch of sewing plans for 2022, but thought I’d share my #makenine, which are: 1. The @bellalovespatterns #blptravellercoat - I’m probably most excited to plan and sew this one! 2. A bunch of short sleeved turtlenecks - I have the #riseturtleneck pattern so I’ll use that, but I have worn my one from uniqlo to actual death so I desperately need them. 3. The @bellalovespatterns #blpinterstellar hoodie, in this #jenniferbouron galaxy print French terry from @neridahansenfabrics, because due to their names I just know they are meant to be. 4. I have been slowly putting together a king sized version of the #tinytilesquilt from @purlsoho - I’ve been making all the tiles from scraps and have cut 500 of the estimated 1200 I need- but I really want to get into gear with this and finish it this year. 5. The #azukiworkpants from @yuki_wafflepatterns - I love the look of these so much and I want some utility pants for work, so one of the big projects for me this year is to toile and fit these pants. 6. I love both the #gilberttop and the #reynoldsdress from @helens__closet and am super keen to make this hack Helen shared for a shirtdress that combines the two. I’m planning to use the @neridahansenfabrics x @field_day_studio cotton linen blend in Gather - this is probably first up as I want it for term 1. 7. I have wanted to make the @paper_theory #olyashirt since forever, and I finally bit the bullet and got the pattern. I’m gonna make it in a viscose rayon from @seeyouatsixfabric ‘s last collection. 8. I’m going to continue my project of refining the fit for a perfect bra, and make a bunch of undies as well because they’re good quick practice for getting better at knit fabrics. 9. And lucky last, I’m going to make another pair of #darlowpants (pattern by my beloved @inthefolds ) in this Westwood washed linen that I picked up from @theclothshopivanhoe last month. I haven’t shared them on here, but the Darlows I made this year have been my favourite thing to wear, so I want another pair. Cannot recommend this pattern enough (I’ll try and remember to share them soon). So they’re the big plans! Here’s to a year of good sewing!

Scrap busting 💥 This little bb took ~4 hours to cut and piece together {Edit: and another ~5 to assemble}, but it was worth it. 😍 This is made from scraps (obvi) that have been sitting around for upwards of a year. Fabric from my first Envelope dress, first Cielo top, first tailored trousers, amongst others. It rained last night!!! I swear I could hear the garden heaving sighs of relief at 3am. It felt strange waking to mist and dark skies here because we’ve had sun every day for almost seven weeks, except for at Easter. We had an early start for my 3-yearly breast screening appointment at 9 am, then a trip to the tile and bathroom shop to choose and finally the garden centre. This is my one and only @paper_theory #olyashirt in some linen from a duvet, and my @modern_sewing_co #msworkertrousers in denim from @stonefabrics. The shirt was an interesting construction that I’ve not seen before but I love it and the pants were a dream to make, even the button fly. They both fitted true to size. After lunch we walked up the lane to the barley field. It had grown so fast! If you swipe left, the penultimate photo was taken on 1 May in the same spot and the. The last photo two weeks before that on 14 April, so it has taken four weeks to grow. We have to keep the spaniel on the lead in case she hears a pheasant and flattens it trying to catch said pheasant! Tomorrow we’re off to Totnes for Mr T’s haircut and I’m getting to go to @stonefabrics, hurrah! Hello! Long time no post! This year I fully intend to make more time for myself and get back into my hobbies. I decided to make a #makenine2024 plan and I will see how far I get! 1. Thelma boilersuit which has been on my list for so long! I'm going to make a green corduroy one. #mmthelma 2. Traveler coat - my absolute dream coat, I have the most beautiful fabric from @sistermintaka for this. #blptravellercoat 3. Black suit - planning to use the Fran blazer and chandler pants patterns. #blpfran #chandlerpants 4. Denham jacket - I don't even really need a jacket but I love all the features on this one and I think it would be fun to sew. #mmdenham 5. Pretty happy with my Make Nine 2024 end results! The only thing I didn’t make was the Cass Pants in the end, so not bad. I did make the Homme Wrap Dress, but it was an absolute disaster (should have made a muslin, need to make some maaaaasive fitting changes 💀) and it’s still in the time out bag of shame. But maybe it’ll make an appearance in 2025? More successfully, I made the #teaguedress, the #mmeve pants, the #blpgrace coat, the #mmsanda jacket, the #olyashirt (cheeky swap from the Archer, but in the same spirit so I’m counting it!), the #donnyshirt, and the #coeliblouse. Epic project for #sewtogetherforwinter is this jacket based on #olyashirt heavily hacked inspired by a rtw jacket. Different collar, zipper, two piece sleeves with pleats, lining with pockets, various patch pockets on the outside (one of them borrowed from #akerfeldtcoat - haven’t yet gotten around to making the whole thing), cropped with drawstring … Long periods of thinking and re-thinking, several errors and rescues, and now it’s finally finished!! I had another go at the Olya Shirt and am much happier with this version! A couple years ago I made one in heavy flannel and it just wasn't quite right. This one is made with a cotton curtain panel (thrifted) and is the perfect layering shirt I was hoping for. I added about 2" in length to the body and sleeves, and tried to make all the seam finishes as tidy as possible since I plan to wear this open. For that reason also, I skipped the buttons and button holes on the front placket. I may eventually add them, but didn't feel the need. Cuff buttons are vintage, and I love them! This is my first sewing post and my first entry for #st4s25 The set was perfect for the warm day at the lake. The top by @paper_theory is #olyashirt I chose the floaty Dahlia cotton voile and 4.8 oz weight dahlia linen @blackbirdfabrics The shorts are the #freerangeslacks shortened using the same fabrics mixture as I didn’t have enough of either one of them to make a complete set. My only adjustment to the pattern was to shorten them and replace the slant side pocket with a side cargo style pocket so my phone sits easily against the side of my leg with this light weight linen and cotton voile shorts.

Note to self: wear this faux jumpsuit look again and again because it is SO GOOD. Even though I made both of these separates (@paper_theory #olyashirt & @annaallenclothing #pomonapants) in Kaffe Fasset striped shot cotton a number of years ago, I’m pretty sure this is somehow the first time I’ve ever worn them together in this way…?! That’s wild, but here we are. It’s always a treat to unlock a new favorite outfit combo comprised of “old” garments (me-made or otherwise). 🤎🖤

I needed to remake the Olya shirt (after giving the white linen one to my daughter) I made this in a size 12-which fitted my measurements when looking at the finished size measurements. I extended the sleeves and body length each 5cm, a usual adjustment for my height. This linen I bought in Chinaworld in Bangkok. When I bought it, my daughter told me not to stand next to a beach umbrella, as I would disappear!!! The style of the Olya shirt makes this so much fun with the stripes across the sleeves. The fit of the Olya shirt is magic! I am a swimmer, so I have wide shoulders but the fit slims down beautifully through the trunk. Such fabulous drafting in this pattern. Sienna Maker Jacket Zum heutigen #memademittwoch zeige ich euch eine Jacke die ich bereits 2023 (oder schon 2022?) zum Nähwochenende beim Klosternähen genäht, aber noch nie gezeigt habe. Das ist vermutlich das am wenigsten getragene selbstgenähte Kleidungsstück das ich habe. Es liegt nicht am Schnitt, das nähen hat Spaß gemacht, der Stoff passt, Lieblingsschrägband ist dabei, die Passform stimmt auch, aber trotzdem zieh ich die Jacke eigentlich kaum an. Vermutlich liegt es daran, dass ich aktuell viele eher weit geschnittene Hosen trage und die gerade Longjacke besser zu schmalen Hosen passt. Ich hab schon überlegt sie zu kürzen, aber dann muss das Beste, die großen Taschen weg 😢 Es gibt den Schnitt auch in einer Cropped Version, das wäre für mich wahrscheinlich die bessere Wahl gewesen. Dabei war ich immer, wenn ich die tollen Versionen bei @seamripstress gesehen habe, so begeistert, dass ich unbedingt eine Version wie ihre, mit einem normalen losen Bindegürtel und nicht wie im Original mit dem Durchzugsband haben wollte. Danke für die Inspiration! Sehr gut eingefügt hat sich dafür mein Olyashirt, das ist ein richtiges Lieblingsteil geworden. Das klappt auch beim selbernähen leider nicht immer. Holiday sewing part 2. This fabric was sitting in my stash, having been completely forgotten about since last year, but when I found it (whilst looking for something else!) I thought it would make a perfect shirt for warm evenings in Sicily. Pattern - Olya shirt by @namedclothing. Lends itself better to fabric where you can see the distinction between yoke and body better, but a joy to sew, and fits me really well. I size right down to the smallest size, so it's not as oversized as it's designed to be and finish the bottom with binding rather than a hem. Introducing my fourth Olya shirt. I wear my others so much, especially in summer over swimmers or singlet tops. I finally have my sewjo back after the tiredness of first trimester and I’m trying make summer pieces for when I will be on maternity leave and probably not sewing as much. Und einmal mehr habe ich den Zuleeg Stoff mit Neonstreifen ( hier: rot/orange, er nennt sich Pinstripe Firework) mit gelben Neonstreifen verarbeitet. Die Mischung aus Baumwolle, Viskose und Leinen bringen den traumhaft fließenden Fall und das softe Gefühl auf der Haut. Genäht habe ich die Bluse in der kleinsten Größe, also Gr. 6. Vorder-und Rückenteil habe ich um 5 cm gekürzt. Bin 1,65 m groß. Es gibt in meinem Schrank nur EINE Hose, die dazu passt: meine 1. Barrelleg Hose von @smartpattern. It’s been a few years since my last post. I went back to work, and sewing had to take a back seat! But now it’s the summer holidays, the children are off at their grandparents’, and I’ve finally managed to dust off my sewing machine. This is my very first #OlyaShirt by @paper_theory, and I absolutely love it! I’m far too excited to start the next one to faff about with better photos, so here’s a quick selfie from the hallway. I made a straight size 10 with no mods, just added lots of topstitching, inspired as always by the brilliant Nisan @the.social.fabric. I basically had her yellow version up on my screen the whole time, and when she added topstitching, so did I!

P O P L I N 🫶 When putting together this outfit, it was mostly about the colors. I’ve been wanting to combine light blue with olive green for a while, which is why I just made this #ashtontop! But then I realized the garments all had something in common - they’re basically all the same fabric! Poplin!! I just love everything about it. The paperlike touch, the rustling noise it makes as I move, and how easy it is to cut and sew. The slightest sheen, how it holds a press. It can be fickle; showing every little pucker and wrinkle, but it can also create the most crisp and tidy seams and details. 👌 Fabric/pattern info: The #olyashirt and #ashtontop are both the @mindthemaker papertouch poplin, and the #iiheliostrouser are made using Japanese typewriter poplin from @indigoindigo.no. All are organic cotton.

My first OLYA shirt, pattern by @papertheory. You all were so right (of course); this is a fantastic pattern and I will wear the s#%t out of this shirt. I fell between size 12 and 14 so went with 14 as between menopause and weightlifting, I seem to be growing—not sure where that will end. I like the ease but could see sizing down for a different fabric or desired look. Fabric is a lightweight denim from @lafinchfabrics_new —the last of it. I’ve got Chanterelle pants AND a CLO bias skirt in it as well —so lots of matchy matchy options. @sarahhearts label also purchased from LA Finch. Worn here w my 3 or 4 yr old Bob pants which were converted from their original form as Arthurs —so kind of a mash-up. I made this denim @paper_theory #olyashirtdress about a year ago and I’ve been wearing it non-stop recently. Shirt dresses are so easy, it’s a whole outfit in one and is smart enough for work! . Presenting my Olya shirt by @paper_theory - I’m very proud of this project! I was given the pattern for Christmas by my sister @the.sew.off and I set to work on it as soon as the festivities were over. One of my style aims for this year is to wear fewer t-shirts and more shirts so I thought this was a good place to start. I love an oversized shirt! I sized down one size from my bust measurement and made a size 8. I based this on taking measurements from a couple of my favourite rtw shirts and decided this was the right size, and it worked out well. The fabric is a cotton chambray from my stash, I bought it from @minervadotcom a few months ago. The buttons were kindly given to me last time I bought something in store at the @rainbowfabrickilburn shop, they go perfectly with this and I had just the right number. Almost all reviews of this pattern say that they sew-along on the Paper Theory website is helpful, and they are right. I was a bit confused by the printed instructions at first and the photos online really helped. I thought this was going to be a slow make but it seems that the complicated bits get done early on so finishing it off was quick and the finish is really impressive. Next time I would halve the amount of interfacing - I only used a fairly lightweight interfacing, but (possibly partly due to the fabric choice), the collar and placket are a bit stiff. For the cuffs I forgot to cut 2 pairs at first, meaning I was able to leave one layer without interfacing and they are much better. Thought I’d share some more details of my @paper_theory #olyashirt . The pockets are really fun, it has proper cuffs and plackets, curved hem and back pleat. . This is the first shirt I have made with all the ‘proper’ shirt details and I was so pleased with myself when I’d done it. Plus the extras like the concealed pockets and interesting sleeve / yoke detail (not easy to photograph in this fabric!) make it more interesting than a classic shirt. . I’d highly recommend this pattern just for its construction, but it’s also great to wear. . It’s the last one (for now) - I promise. Last of the batch experiment, definitely not the least liked. Olya Shirt in Nani Iro double gauze and it’s so so goooood. Airy and dressy, and also warm if needed. I made this one with a squarish hem the length of the hemline at the side seam. No other mods. Look at those pleats!!! This is my first but won't be my last Olya Shirt by @paper_theory. I loved every single bit of the construction process. I hand sewed the collar and the sleeve cuffs because I found those areas to be much neater done by hand. The fabric i choose is a beige toned Italian linen. I haven't made any mods exept omitting the interfacing and the pockets. Not going to beat around the bush here, this #olyashirt was HARD. One of my 2021 sewing goals was collared shirts. And though I’ve made the Ilford Jacket and the Waikerie Shirt before, this was my first time attempting sleeve plackets or a proper collar stand. I’ve also had a busy season of life and struggled to follow the instructions well in my short bursts of sewing. It’s done but far from perfect. I’ll wear it a lot because it’s black and basic, but there is a lot I will do differently next time: ☑️use less stiff fabric, this traditional shirting is too crispy ☑️use black interfacing when using dark fabric, especially in the button placket where you can see the white poking out through the buttonholes ☑️use less or lighter weight interfacing, these cuffs and collar are way too stiff ☑️continue to size down. This was size 12 but I measured for 16 and this fits pretty well ☑️use a directional stripe fabric so you can actually see the cool sleeve construction ☑️skip the pockets, fussy to construct and will seldom be used 🖤 But it is a good and unique pattern from @paper_theory . It’s a great hashtag to follow with an endless stream of gorgeous versions. It goes up to bust size 56” and is generously oversized. Non mais c’est trop CooCool 💙🤍 It’s cool and I feel cool. Or maybe that’s just middle-aged me speaking. Anyways. I was a bit sceptical about using a loosely woven cotton linen for this one. [I got it on sale so felt like being brave and went for it anyways. Ahem] Needlessly though, it’s absolutely lovely and a lot less see-through than I feared. I’ll readily admit that there’s way more interfacing than I usually use, including one layer of the back yoke. I used the ugly tan knit interfacing stuff because it does retain the fabric properties and doesn’t show on the outside. And it also counteracts the fact that that piece came out slightly off-grain. Oops. Win! And the rest is just breezy. Looking forward to wearing this on hot days. In case you hadn’t guessed - number three of the Olya experiment. I accidentally included the selvedge print on the front and am declaring it a feature. My buttons are lovely metallic silver ones and actually do match the polka dots even if the camera doesn’t pick up on it in the bright light. 🍅 Introducing my new tomato project / lunch bag! 🍅 This @grainlinestudio Stowe Bag is my first sewing project completed in my new craft room and probably (if I’m being realistic) my last sewing FO of 2024. The fabric is a Sevenberry cotton/linen blend from @evanstonstitchworks. I fell for the fabric as soon as I saw it during my last visit to Chicago, and knew it would make a perfect Stowe bag. I sewed the small size including the project bag pockets for maximum versatility, but I’m intending to use this mostly as a work lunch bag. One of my fave features is how easily can be flattened, folded, and packed away when it’s empty. Such a clever design! I was listening to a lot of Joni Mitchell (whose music always reminds me of my late mom) while sewing this bag yesterday, so it’s fitting that today’s tomato-inspired outfit for the bag’s first outing is reminiscent of how my mom dressed in the ‘90s. Cannot tell you how long I have had the glorious @paper_theory #olyashirt on my to sew list, and it didn't disappoint! Why did I wait so long?? Super interesting construction, an exercise in so many important techniques and overall a very satisfying sew! I've now made 2 more, i love its shape and finish. Can I highly recommend the @paper_theory you tube video tutorial for this pattern - i followed it throughout the process and it really helped me through the trickier parts - very clear and simple to follow. I made a size 10 here based on my measurements, it's probably slightly oversized for my taste, especially since the linen is still slightly stiff and needs a few more washes. My next version i sized down. Made from lovely bedford linen in milk colour from @tessutifabrics

It’s the last one (for now) - I promise. Last of the batch experiment, definitely not the least liked. Olya Shirt in Nani Iro double gauze and it’s so so goooood. Airy and dressy, and also warm if needed. I made this one with a squarish hem the length of the hemline at the side seam. No other mods. Thought I’d share some more details of my @paper_theory #olyashirt . The pockets are really fun, it has proper cuffs and plackets, curved hem and back pleat. . This is the first shirt I have made with all the ‘proper’ shirt details and I was so pleased with myself when I’d done it. Plus the extras like the concealed pockets and interesting sleeve / yoke detail (not easy to photograph in this fabric!) make it more interesting than a classic shirt. . I’d highly recommend this pattern just for its construction, but it’s also great to wear. . Look at those pleats!!! This is my first but won't be my last Olya Shirt by @paper_theory. I loved every single bit of the construction process. I hand sewed the collar and the sleeve cuffs because I found those areas to be much neater done by hand. The fabric i choose is a beige toned Italian linen. I haven't made any mods exept omitting the interfacing and the pockets. My first OLYA shirt, pattern by @papertheory. You all were so right (of course); this is a fantastic pattern and I will wear the s#%t out of this shirt. I fell between size 12 and 14 so went with 14 as between menopause and weightlifting, I seem to be growing—not sure where that will end. I like the ease but could see sizing down for a different fabric or desired look. Fabric is a lightweight denim from @lafinchfabrics_new —the last of it. I’ve got Chanterelle pants AND a CLO bias skirt in it as well —so lots of matchy matchy options. @sarahhearts label also purchased from LA Finch. Worn here w my 3 or 4 yr old Bob pants which were converted from their original form as Arthurs —so kind of a mash-up. Presenting my Olya shirt by @paper_theory - I’m very proud of this project! I was given the pattern for Christmas by my sister @the.sew.off and I set to work on it as soon as the festivities were over. One of my style aims for this year is to wear fewer t-shirts and more shirts so I thought this was a good place to start. I love an oversized shirt! I sized down one size from my bust measurement and made a size 8. I based this on taking measurements from a couple of my favourite rtw shirts and decided this was the right size, and it worked out well. The fabric is a cotton chambray from my stash, I bought it from @minervadotcom a few months ago. The buttons were kindly given to me last time I bought something in store at the @rainbowfabrickilburn shop, they go perfectly with this and I had just the right number. Almost all reviews of this pattern say that they sew-along on the Paper Theory website is helpful, and they are right. I was a bit confused by the printed instructions at first and the photos online really helped. I thought this was going to be a slow make but it seems that the complicated bits get done early on so finishing it off was quick and the finish is really impressive. Next time I would halve the amount of interfacing - I only used a fairly lightweight interfacing, but (possibly partly due to the fabric choice), the collar and placket are a bit stiff. For the cuffs I forgot to cut 2 pairs at first, meaning I was able to leave one layer without interfacing and they are much better.
