Having realised that I had no shorts in my wardrobe recently I have now made two pairs! First up is the #bisqueshorts made in linen from my stash. As I have made the #bisquetrousers already I just went with the same size. Perfect lightweight and easy to wear summer shorts! Say hello to my wearable toile of the @daughterjudypatterns #HenrySkirt ! I was drawn to this skirt for it's interesting setup - it's actually tubular with a fold that makes it look like a wrap skirt. This means you never have to worry about the wind blowing it open! I made this version with light weight herringbone denim from @rainbowfabrickilburn Thoughts: 1. This isn't a wrap skirt. I know I just said that's the reason I was drawn to it, but in terms of fitting I naively thought that maybe I would be able to fold it slightly tighter or looser depending on mood. I experimented with folding it in different places, but the way the pieces are designed there really only is one place to fold it and fasten it. I am between sizes in this pattern (between XS and S) and for this I cut out a straight size S. It has resulted in a skirt that is a bit big, but luckily it's still wearable so I can give the skirt a good trial run. But future makes, I definitely need to create an in-between size so it fits me better at my waist. And I might take this one apart to get a better fit. 2. For the projector sewists out there: I lay my fabric wrong sides up when I project cos that means I can draw on any darts/markings etc on the fabric. But I did this for this pattern and realised that I had the wrap folding the wrong way according to the instructions (it did massively confuse me for a while trying to work out what I had done). So ideally you would flip all the pieces before projecting for this pattern. Personally I would like all projector files to be wrong-side up, and will double check this is the case before projecting patterns in the future. I found the summer heat and humidity really oppressive this year - I just wanted to be wafting through the hot days like a cloud. I really love the block tee pattern (those right angles seams are sooooo good!) so figured I'd lengthen it to make a dress.  I've worn this relentlessly since finishing it a couple of months ago. I definitely need more of these for next summer....probs not in white as this one really showcases the yellow sun cream marks ☀️ Pattern: #blocktee by @paper_theory sewn in an 18 through the shoulders and graded to a 22 at the hips. I added 35cm to the length to make it a loose, short shift that barely touches my body. I added a tiny pocket so I had somewhere to keep my fluffs (am allllways fidgeting with a piece of wool....) I followed the video Tara has on the website for sewing the right angle seams and then topstitched the seam allowance to keep it flat.  Fabric: white linen from @wearethefabricstore

Date made: end of December 2024 🧵 Pattern: #bisquepants from @vivianshaochen in the size 14, tampered legs. I removed 2.5" from the length of the leg. I made this as part of my work wardrobe. I have been adding a few pieces here and there as I'm back at work and would like some more professional looking clothes. I found this pattern to be very well drafted and the instructions to be very clear. There are even provisions for different weight of fabric you choose. So a modified waist for heavier fabrics to reduce bulk. The key to getting a good fit for these pants I think is picking a size that will allow your waist band to move over the hip properly. Since there's no closure, the widest part of the pants will be the waist. I measured out the finished measurements using my tape measure then held it close and see if I could get the widest part of my butt through the opening of the tape. It worked well for me. I'm looking forward to making a version out of wool for winter and maybe a linen pair for summer outing. It's really comfortable and even though it's elastic waist, I found the design to be crisp enough for professional wear. Top is the #blocktee. Necklace was thrifted. 🧵 Fabric: a 160gsm viscose fabric from @supercheapfabrics I purchased a year ago. It's 80% viscose and 20% cotton. I love the earthy tones. I used the same fabric from the tee for the pockets in the pants because the pants fabric was just a little on the thick side for self pockets. They’re roomy, they’re comfy, and they look so nice. The cloud linen is aptly named. It is floaty and dreamy and so annoying to cut! Fortunately it didn’t shift around while sewing. In the future I would absolutely ignore the instructions on the neck binding and just bind it in the round rather than leaving one shoulder unfinished until after binding the neck. I love fitting with the paper pattern and my #ducttapedressform . It gives so many benefits if a muslin but faster and lazier and less wastefully. It helps me think about how the pattern is going together and how the ease is going to work out. The paper is actually great at showing fitting problems because the paper is stiff and problems make it want to pop out or not stretch. Sewing goals for 2023. This year I have stuck to patterns I already own, and if I haven’t already made them they’re patterns by companies I have made other patterns of (the one exception being the vikisews blouse). I also have some general goals on slide 2: get better at fitting, find a good bra pattern, use my stash, find a better balance between clothes I want to make and clothes I want to wear, not rushing my #blptravellercoat (hence why it isn’t on the #makenine grid) and finish my tiny squares quilt. The back half of this year was hectic so I didn’t make/post much, but I want to get up to date in posting what I’ve made. These are first up on my list. Knitted jumper- I am hodgepodging an oversized bulky knit jumper from a couple of very basic patterns and hope to have it finished by winter lol. It’s good to knit in meetings, but I’m at the tedious stage. That’s it! Hopefully I’ll be able to post more this year, rather than lurk in the comments section and post sewing memes in my stories lol.

2 sleeves on. Side seams sewn. Just need to hem and finish the seams of my @paper_theory #papertheoryblocktee One thing I forgot to take into account is that my back/shoulders are wide, so I should've gone up one or 2 sizes to accommodate this. It fits. But it's not as oversize as I'd like. And taking it off takes a bit of effort.

Block Tee made in a stretch cotton sateen. Such an interesting pattern that is very satisfying to make! This was made a while ago using this cute ombré/marbled print. Love the fabric. Made a #papertheoryblocktee in some airy Kokka cotton seersucker that I got at @mulberrysilks over the summer. Total impulse fabric buy but I'd never seen polka dot seersucker before!! The right angles might be a little obtuse...still great for ~transitional~ weather (aka humid philly autumn). I love fitting with the paper pattern and my #ducttapedressform . It gives so many benefits if a muslin but faster and lazier and less wastefully. It helps me think about how the pattern is going together and how the ease is going to work out. The paper is actually great at showing fitting problems because the paper is stiff and problems make it want to pop out or not stretch. I purchased and made the Guise pants back in November of 2024, in preparation for the 2025 work year. Since having my little one, my body shape has changed and I'm unable to fit into my previously made fitted pants except for two pairs of jeans. And last year, I only made a few pairs and they are culottes and more jeans. I just wanted a couple of pairs that are more fitted looking but without being fitted. I really like the idea of pants that are flexible in terms of fits. I feel this pattern ticks all the boxes. Fitted in the front, flexible in the back. Great for fluctuations. 🧵 Pattern: #guisepants from @papercutpatterns in their size 6, shorten by 10cm across 3 locations below the crotch. I bias bind most of the seams with scrap linens from the fabric bin and added no-sew hook and bar closure (they are not widely available in shops as far as I'm aware, if you like them, you may need to hunt them down online). I think there's enough give in the back that if you eliminate the front zip open, you can still squeeze in (if you want to). I also reduced the length of my elastic at the back by about 6 cm because I found it too loose at the recommended length. The elastic I used is extra stretchy and less stiff so I didn't need as much. Oh and I left out the welt pockets in the back of the pants, I just can't see me using that. The top is the #papertheoryblocktee I made years and years ago... That still fits. 🧵 Fabric: a light weight wool fabric that my mum's friend gave me a decade ago. I'm one of the slowest sewists around. Started to put together the Block Tee by @paper_theory today. The neckline took me a while to figure it out, but I got there in the end. The sleeves. The sleeves... 3+ hours and a feed and cuppa tea later, I finally figured out (kind of) with the help of the tutorial, how to attach the sleeve. It's not perfect, but it's done. Another make from last year. These are the #robbiepants from @tessutifabrics in a heavyweight bone linen from @wearethefabricstore. I can see why this pattern is so popular. I love a cropped leg pant and this pull on style is easy to sew and wear. I also really like the fact that there's not too much fullness at the back as I sometimes find gathered styles can add too much fullness over the butt for me. I needed to adjust the elastic in the waist after I made these so they sat in my mending pile for far too long. Very pleased they're now wearable as they're great pants for autumn and spring. Me Made May day 22! Things have been busy but I'm making an effort to make designated sewing time for myself.
