#MeMadeMay #OOTD I’m wearing my very first garments I learned to sew years ago. I wear this ensemble A LOT! It is so comfy and the space in these pockets are next level. I keep meaning to sew more as I love them so much. My trusty wayfarer shoes were the first pair of shoes I have sewn. They are worn pretty much daily. They are so comfy and the fit is just perfect. These are my top 9 most WORN garments for 2020. Remembering that we spent over 6 months in lockdown in Melbourne therefore comfort was the priority! I got lots of wear from my #peunwind jumpers and #pemyembracecardi. The #pepleatstomeetyoupants were a firm favourite for hanging around at home too. For the tiny bits of warm weather we’ve had I often reach for my #peexhale dress or top. Since we’ve been out of lockdown I’ve been getting lots of wear from my #peppermintpocketskirt and #millertrousers along with my #torrensboxtop. These are patterns I definitely would like to make more of. Then of course is my #twigandtalemask of which I have many and have been mandatory here in Melbourne for the past 5 months. We’re now allowed to exercise and visit people without them but they are still essential when visiting indoor shops, medical practices etc. For such a small inconvenience of wearing them they seem to have done so much to help and we’re now over 40 days without any community transmission in our state. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Clothes are meant to be worn and I’m grateful to have a mainly handmade wardrobe that fits me so well to wear everyday. I have lots on my list that I hope to be able to sew in 2021 but I’m not going to set any goals. Me Made May Day 5. Today I’m wearing my #RemyRaglan and #PeppermintPocketSkirt and my #TTleafsatchel (gifted) Both are made in 100% cotton (skirt is cotton flannel) This is the second pocket skirt I’ve ever made and somehow I managed to mess up the pockets on all of them except my third one 🤣 I matched up the wrong notches so the pockets are lower than they’re supposed to be. I added buttons to the pockets to keep them closed. Also wearing my favorite cardigan from target that I got 5 years ago. It had a few holes from wearing it so much so I mended them and plan to continue mending any more that show up. If anyone knows how to fix sleeve cuffs on sweaters, I would love advice! Work is finally winding down a bit for the year. I've managed to find time to finish the elephant maxi #ttmeadowskirt I started three months ago, and knock up another quick #PeppermintPocketSkirt in khaki Got the elastic wrong in both! Elephant is too tight 😬😬 and the pocket too loose.. I've unpicked and fixed the latter, it was a simple fix. But I'm hoping to avoid fixing the elephant, it's much more complex! I also didn't follow the instructions on the Meadow Skirt properly and the front is a bit too narrow... Totally my bad. Couple goals. I finally made Alex and I another matching look. I had my first visit to @homecraft.textiles at the end of last year, and I picked up this vibrant wax fabric. I started sewing years ago but earnestly got into it because of safari wear - which is expensive and on average not a style I would wear regularly, so I did not think investing it in was sensible or ethical. So this year, when another safari was announcing itself, I made a pledge to document all my wildlife-friendly clothes (which are all with the exception of one top me-made). It proved to be the perfect in between seasons garment worn with sneakers and t-shirts and a dream to wear in summer with cropped boxy tops. I had the intention and the will to wear it also in the fall because of the colours and the easy to combine with other garments in my wardrobe. Happy to report that the skirt is being a fall champion and I love how it looks with tights and boots and chunky sweaters. Ha! So I missed #memademay even though I wear a full me-made outfits almost exclusively. Just the idea of taking photos of myself every day is overwhelming. I shared this skirt over on threadloop about a week ago, but it deserves a spot on the grid for how often I’ve worn it since making it back in June!! This is the @paper_theory and @peppermintmagazine #PeppermintPocketSkirt made with avocado green linen from @blackbirdfabrics. This was an amazingly fast and fun sew, and I’ll absolutely make this again. No mods to the pattern, I made a size 16 because that’s what I had cut out ages ago. My current measurements would put me at an 18, but with the elastic waist and generous gathering this fits with no issues. I’ve been wearing this regularly on the weekends with a crop top (tee in photo is from @provinceofcanada) or to work paired with a white linen top. Yet another @fridaypatterncompany #donnyshirt . I like the process of making this top and this time it's made in a @merchantandmills Textured Check Natural Indian Cotton remnant. Due to the textured fabric the finished result is different from my previous makes as the collar isn't as structured but that's the look I was going for and I didn't interface the collar either. The skirt is another, my third or fourth, #peppermintpocketskirt from @paper_theory and @peppermintmagazine . I like the skirt as it's a good length and not too full. I have omitted the pockets (I know it's called the pocket skirt!) but I wasn't keen on how they bagged out. The fabric is a medium weight beautiful dark teal cotton from @sarahsimplelifeuk (no longer trading as Sarah has retired). After a few makes that I haven't been so happy with it's nice to go back to old favourites.

#memademay2025 Day 21 The square armholes top and the biggest pocket skirt. I love the unusual square armholes feature on this top. It was a little tricky to sew. But it's worth it. Friday was way less hot, and that's when the air conditioner decided to go out. MIL took mom to the movies, dogs were panicked because we made them stay locked up, but the technician was really nice, very transparent, got our ancient air conditioning working, gave us some tips on extending the life and some quotes when the time comes. Each one contains a random set of fabrics which are often unavailable on our site completely or sold out. Its a great way to get a lot of great high-quality fabric at a low price. The white skirt I made a few months ago turned me into a skirt lover, so I decided to make another one. This time, I used another free pattern from #peppermintmagazine. The fabric is a rather stiff cotton that I have for a long time. I never knew what to do with it, but I’m glad it became this #pocketskirt . The pockets are voluminous in this fabric. I added two buttons to each pocket to reduce volume when I want to wear a top over it. I ordered this fabulous Mushroom Myriad fabric from @minervadotcom originally planning to make a dress, but when it arrived it told me it wanted to be separates! . . Skirt is loosely based on the #peppermintpocketskirt from @peppermintmagazine but with the pocket panel cut as one piece (without the pocket) all pieces widened slightly and added patch pockets. I've already worn it a lot! . . Top is a #demetertop from @annaallenclothing with lengthened sleeves and raised neckline. . . Me-made May, days 20-24. It's been nice getting back into the swing of documenting things I've made, but I'm glad to be getting into the home stretch of taking mostly-daily photos. Monday: @grainlinestudio Penny Raglan in Kaufman Laguna jersey (grey) and mystery knit from a friend's destash (black) & RTW jeans. Tuesday: work shirt & Peppermint Pocket Skirt in linen/rayon blend. I love the drape of this but I wish I'd shortened it differently. I'm 5'3" and if I recall correctly it's drafted for 5'6" or 5'7". I took out an inch above the top of the pockets and two inches below, and I wish I had flipped that. The bottom of the pocket hits juuuust a little lower than I'd like. Wednesday: @openstudiopatterns Bumper Blouse in a fabric that someone donated to my work. It's a really nice blue-black that feels a little like a cotton and linen or hemp blend. Thursday: an all @elizsuzann 'fit. Georgia tee & Clyde work pants. #MeMadeMay2025 Day 29: my first long sleeved shirt! This cotton fabric is really lightweight and I’m curious how much I find myself reaching for this. If not a lot (or if my mistake cutting one sleeve with the pattern upside down gets to me🤷‍♀️), I’ll remove the sleeves all together and finish with bias tape. Still working on easing in a sleeve cap without it getting too wrinkly or puffy. It’s a work in progress. Used French seams for all except around the sleeve cap- is that even possible? If I keep the sleeves I’ll go back in and zig zag around the raw edges inside. @grainlinestudio #scouttee with the long sleeve variation. This adorable hand printed Indian block print fabric is from @loomandstars, a very sweet shop in the Flatiron district. I love that sewing allows you to make adjustments to a pattern to make it unique to you, and I did that with this #peppermintpocketskirt. I think it was my fabric choice, but after making up this skirt, the pockets were hanging out a bit too much for my liking, so with help from my sewing teacher, added a pleat and buttons, and now wear this skirt all the time. I'm reminded that adding a button or a little detail can make all the difference. I added 2 pockets and buttons to a matching Ashton top I made with the extra fabric in the last photo.
