♻️ Secondhand fabric score 😍 I’m such a sucker for ice dye! My friend brought this fabulous linen she had ice dyed to a fabric swap earlier this year. I loved it so much I was reaching for this cut before it even hit the table! Fabric swaps are the best way to share materials you’re not loving anymore with someone who will. These are two tops that I made from it. When the fabric is that good, you gotta use every inch. Thanks @smidjin 🤍 First one is my #ME2033 Wave Top, and second is a self drafted top with a boat neck, drop shoulder, and crop length. I committed to focusing on more casual handmade tops this year and mostly I’ve been mostly failing at that (easily distracted by “occasion” items) but I did make these two at least 😂

A finally finished WIP! This is the ME2033 wave set pant, paired with my Friday pattern company square neck top, and Helen’s closet Blackwood cardigan. I started these pants months ago, I think in the spring, and I finished them, but I had constructed them out of an upholstery-weight linen and the elastic wasn’t keeping these suckers up. I also didn’t heed the warning to cut out a size below what I measured, so there was a lot of extra fabric. I got discouraged and set them aside to find a solution - because I love these fabrics and really wanted to make this work! I found them both at Scrap Bmore and fell in love with them - the pink is linen, the watercolor one is a linen blend and feels more like upholstery fabric, but still soft. There’s also an orange linen lining the waistband that I got from Minerva. I worked on it here and there over the summer to try and come up with a solution, and finally decided that a zipper closer on the hip would be good, but would require a more fitted back then panel for the pant. I took several inches out of the rear inseam, and the hip seam, and attached and reattached the zipper at least 7 times (thankful for a basting stitch!). This weekend I was motivated to do the final things so I could wear them to church because I really don’t have anymore pants in my wardrobe. I love them so much, and I imagine they will need to have a few more made (in lighter weight fabric!) so I can really enjoy this funky vibe at its maximum level. I decided to be more adventurous and to try new patterns. That's why during sales I purchased #ME2033 by @knowmepatterns and the talented @handmademillennial . I made the top as I wanted to use only remnants of linen and not to purchase new fabric. I cut size 14 and I m happy with the fit. I love the square neckline so much! 😍 The only problem I had was to ease the sleeves... After 4 attempts I quitted trying so that's why the right sleeve is too puffy and not similar to the left. I almost destroyed the fabric! Overall I m happy with this top and I may try other colour combos as well! I would also like to sew the pants! This is one of those projects that began as a linen pant and ended up being a casual summer outfit.     With white linen waiting to be sewn, I was drawn to the #ME2033 pant.  A Know Me pattern created by @handmademellennial. I liked the barrel shape and have noticed many sewers sewing up this pant style lately. I didn't use the two-tone option.  I do like the curved insets which are still visible in a solid colour. After cutting, I added a "crouching tiger" machine embroidery design to the bottom leg (I seem to be drawn to wild cats lately?!🐅).  Another great design from Royal Present Embroidery. The pant has an elastic back and is super comfy.  (Cannot believe I said that,  grandma words! 🤣) I decided to make a coordinating top and found perfect remnants in my stash.  Using white Ponte de Roma and a grey cotton jersey knit, I played around with  OOP McCalls 4774.  I believe this pattern is from the 1990's. I added a grey colour block stripe and then using the same grey, added a ruffled hem. I still can’t believe how sweet they are and how well we get along in person just as much as we do online. My second top! I found this pattern when shopping around @joann_stores and decided I would test it out. I’ve never sewn a curve before and decided to jump into the deep end with this pattern and I was pretty happy with the result! When I followed the sizing pattern, it said I was a size 20, yet I made it out of the 16 and it fit perfectly. Thank you to the blog Sew Paradise for the post about this and sizing down. It was really helpful. The fabric is really soft and comfortable, yet structured, and great for the upcoming warmer weather. I really want to make it with contrasting fabrics, and am keeping my eyes out when I go to the thrift store to see what I can find. Lessons learned were how to make a square neckline! The bias wasn’t perfect (the pattern calls for interfacing, but I didn’t have any 😬) but I have already made it better since then. And make sure to follow the markings on the pattern to make the square! Anyway, I love this top and it goes great with high waist jeans, and I’m hoping to make the pants when I feel a bit more confident since pants scare me. I spent my Spring Break sewing (what felt like) 18,000 projects. It was so nice to just relax, sew, and be creative. It also the first time in a few years that I’ve been able to sew actual clothing items for myself. I’m excited that the warmer weather is finally coming so I can wear them soon! In order are: 1. The #ME2033 Wave set in Linen from @handmademillennial. I added the bow in the back bc this type of neckline tends to slide off my shoulders. 2. The Avril Dress by @galiacouture for the bodice (I swapped out the skirt for an a-line from a different pattern). 3. Fruity reversible dog bandanas for my little dude and the little dudes and dudettes of friends and family! 4. Reversible baby rompers for two of my nieces! The pattern I used was simple, but I adapted it to be reversible and have snaps for easier diaper changes. All made with left over and recycled fabrics! 5. I used scraps from the bandanas to make this mini quilt (and also the patchwork yoke of one of the baby rompers). Top ✅. Definitely not perfect but love learning new techniques with each project. These #me2033 pants are the first thing I made when I got back into sewing this past August. I shortened the length (this time to where I actually wanted it 😭) and the rise a bit. I also added knee darts to accentuate the shape. I also flat felled some seams. If I made these again I would make the waistband a bit thicker and maybe add a drawstring. I found this discouraging and decided make nine was not for me, then I watched @sowhatifisew Jess on YouTube who said something along the lines of, it’s best to approach this challenge with the expectation you might not make them all, and changed my mind! I have lofty goals for my second garment. I want to sew the skirt in the middle pattern (#ME2073) It has a side zipper but I want to move the side zipper to the back and add pockets to the skirt. The pockets will come from the first pattern (#N6777). Then I’ll sew a matching top to my skirt using the crop top pattern on the right (#ME2033). Oh and I have to modify the skirt size because the pattern doesn’t go up to my measurements. This will be my first time doing all of these things and the accountant in me is so excited about figuring all of these modifications out. #nasewebe #cpa

I made quilted pants! 🤯 I had this idea in my head and ran to Pinterest to see if this was a ✨thing✨ and it turns out it is. So I got to work on these using @knowmepatterns #ME2033 by @handmademillennial. Not gonna lie, I found my thrifted quilt to be a challenge to work with but I pushed thru. I have two lessons from making these… 1. I will absolutely make this pattern again but in linen, because I really want more pairs of these. 2. If I make quilted pants again, I’ll need to make them from scratch with a much lighter batting. Finished my muslin of @knowmepatterns ME2033 and I wanted to love this pattern. The curves on the pattern make the look but it was difficult to get a smooth sew. I got a lot of puckering even with clipping curves. For the pants I sewed a 16 to 14 and when I was done I tried them on I realized that the seams bother me on the inside and I won’t be comfortable wearing them. If you are sensitive like me I suggest making a lining. For the top I made a size 18 and the sleeves feel restrictive and the bust darts came out really high 😂😂🤣😂. I learned a lot with this pattern but I have decided not to make another version for now. I love the looks that @handmademillennial created and will maybe come back to the pattern when I have more sewing skills. For now I am happy I tried the pattern and will use the muslin for a future quilt project after all I use mostly Kona cotton and I love the colors.
