After a 4 year hiatus ( living on a boat @scoutaroundtheworld ) I have returned to dry land and settled back into the Gold Coast in Australia. Now my sewing adventure continues My first outfit was for the opening night of Les Miserables Arena World Wide Tour @lesmisarenatourau in Brisbane last night. My daughter Clare @claretodhunter was invited to the red carpet event and I was her plus one. We are both Les Mis die hard fans and we decided to go all out with our choice of outfits for the night. I have been immersed in French language, culture and history for the last nine years @natalinguist so this was a very exciting night to embrace everything French. We started our night @wine_ism in Albion with champagne and a French charcuterie and cheese board. Perfect! I chose a red/white/blue French flag colored palazzo wool from @tessutifabrics for my dress with a McCalls pattern #M8529. The lovely Tessuti ladies helped me pick out a matching navy organza for the trim. My jacket was inspired by the French students at the barricade from Les Miserables. I found the most amazing New Zealand wool bouclé from @drapersfabrics and made it in Vogue pattern #V2053. I knew I had to get the perfect buttons to create the #barricadechic ( the look my daughter described) and I instantly turned to @allbuttons in Newtown in Sydney who knew exactly what I was looking for. They promptly sent me, by text message about 20 options for buttons. What a fabulous service. A perfect look to finish my jacket. Now my sewing was a little bit rusty and I had not made a fully lined and interfaced jacket since high school under the tutelage of Michelle Gray @itsfabric. Thanks Michelle for your patience and guidance all those many!!! years ago. I persevered after many, not so serious mistakes and got the result and look that I wanted. I was sewing the buttons on at 3pm before I headed out. I am now inspired, sewing machine is out of storage and sewing room set up. And a granddaughter to sew for.
