Went to the real @theclothshopivanhoe yesterday lured in by Kim’s post of this tartan ponte. It had been sooooo long since I had physically been to the shop and it is looking beautiful. Anyway I made this favourite old Donna Karan #v2064 flared pants such a wonderful pattern - and usually terrified of plaids I think I matched it up ok!! #sewing #memademay2021 #handmade #madebyme #weekendproject

#MeMadeMay2025 Day 28. Today was a cold rainy day. Luckily I had not put away my #V2064 dress I made out of a reversible knit fabric from @nickoftimefabric! It was the perfect snuggly piece to pull out. I found it challenging to style this for work, it certainly feels a bit more dressy given how voluminous the bottom of the skirt is and how it hugs the curves. I didn’t want to emphasize that, and knew I wanted to layer it with something. So I paired it with another piece in my wardrobe that doesn’t get worn much, my #S1108 duster made from a burnout velvet I picked up at JoAnn years ago. I wanted to make the most of this reversible fabric so I made my dress reversible. It helps that the pattern already calls for topstitching. I was able to omit the zipper in the back by drafting my own shorter neckband, since this is a knit dress, I figured I could get away with not using a zip and it simplified the sewing process and allowed me to make the dress reversible. Today I wore the dress on the reverse side, swipe to see the right side of the fabric! I love that I get two dresses in one! Be warned this is a fabric heavy dress, so be warned! I got such a great deal on this 10yd bolt of fabric, that I was eager to give it a try, I sewed it up in a day! For my daughter’s first dance recital last Sunday I made #V2064 view A. She’s been practicing her one hand cartwheel & so happy they incorporated it in the routine… grateful for having all these ppl love on my baby! 💞 Excited for all future performances bc this girl is a true star ⭐️ pulled an all nighter & got the dress ALMOST done - what you don’t see? an unfinished hem & the turtle neck not sewn down but I bet you wouldn’t notice if you don’t sew 😜 lol! I only did small modifications & will explain in a future post. The focus is on my girl .

Yes! Sandals…crop top…tailored, fluid trousers…. All in all a beautiful day to wear my recently completed work! ☀️😎☀️ Crop top is from the vintage pattern discussed in recent posts. It feels fabulous & modern (even though it’s a pattern from 1958!). The only darts I worked into this top are the side bust darts, and the vertical ones I removed because I was intrigued by how beautifully balanced the fabric flowed around the base of this design. I used the very last bit of a delicious jersey I had from @emmaonesock, and although I had the hemline all marked out for vertically equal balance, the asymmetric aspect from the remnant created even more visual interest for me so I decided to keep this effect. Couple that with the slits at the sides, the machine finished hem (which gave that very slight weight that seems to emphasize the flow of this hem…) and I feel that this vintage top has walked right into the 21st century! These trousers are from the Donna Karen pattern that I’ve been working out and customizing for many years… and I think this is my best version yet. The zipper was installed on the outside - another effect that I love. 🤓You know, I have a love of hand-basting that is just as strong as my love of catch-stitching! I’m currently working on some much needed trousers and I’m going to be working some couture techniques into these as well. In this post I am thread tracing my seam lines using a simple basting stitch. Really, the time just flies by when working at hand stitching: cup of hot chocolate, a great podcast such as #bandeapartpodcast (which I discovered through @documenting_fashion !), or an interesting audio book, and there you’re good to go. Bliss!! I also find that the more I work with couture methods, the more working this way becomes second nature, and that’s just what my goal is! So far, I feel that I’ve reached a point now where I’m having no hesitation applying these methods to an everyday garment. ✨Next up for my #MakeNine2025 : the swooshiest, swingiest dream of a dress 💫 This is Vogue #V2064 and she’s full of personality. Dramatic seam lines, thumbhole sleeves (a personal obsession), and more panels than I care to count. Each one got its own little love letter in the form of topstitching which took forever, but I’m not mad about it. I made a few tweaks like skipping the zipper (because who needs one in a stretchy knit?) and letting this deep blue fabric do all the talking. Day 24 prompt of @gertie18 #CharmPatterns #MeMadeMay2025 was well-timed because we had a wedding to attend yesterday - so here’s my newest “Party Dress,” a mashup of the #JoanWiggleDress sweetheart bodice and the skirt of Vogue #V2064, which has the most lovely swishy skirt. I cut the bodice off the Vogue pattern pieces, estimating the underbust line, and it matched up with the Joan bodice nicely! I underlined everything but the sleeves and cut the lining shorter than the full skirt length. I think this is a mashup I’ll have to make again for sure. Congrats to Faith and Mike! #memademay
