Day 1 of #wawaugustchallenge and thanks to @whatabbeywore for hosting this challenge and the prompts! Going to try and participate as much as I can and look forward to getting inspired. Wearing a skirt I refashioned from an old me-made dress (much lower on grid) I screen printed this fabric duping an old Paloma Wool fabric, it's printed on linen. My @mccallpatterncompany #m8364 top is hot off the machine- made from a rib knit. Love the corset type style that's been going around, but not the most wearable kind of item..in a knit though it becomes an elevated basic, really brilliant pattern imo. Only mods were adding a little length.

I’ve just gotten into the swing of things being back at work, and figured I’d kick off #memademay with this rendition of the awesome #M8364. I LOVE this pattern: style lines of a corset with the easy fit of a knit. At the time I made this, there were literally zero reviews/photos I could find on the internet/IG hashtags, so I was a bit nervous, but I think it turned out really well! It also came together really easily, especially if you’re already accustomed to sewing knits. For sizing, I highly suggest sizing down based on the finished garment measurements. There’s about 3 inches of ease throughout the bust and waist for this pattern, which imo is a bit excessive for the style (and I prefer a bit of negative ease in knit tops anyways). Otherwise, I think fit is great, and you have a lot of wiggle room given the stretchiness of the fabric. I did shorten and shape the sleeves to be more like cap sleeves, as I just prefer them with this pattern. Swipe over to see more of the gorgeous style lines! Two takes on #m8364 which i ran-didn’t-walk to buy along with a bundle of knits right after seeing @jacqui_sakel’s version. Haven’t sewn a modern big 4 for a while and am pleased to confirm they’re still quirky af. Gotta love a knit pattern with ample positive ease, a giant 1.5cm seam allowance on curvy princess seams, and directions to stay stay stitch most of the pieces 🥴🥴🥴 ma’am do you understand how knit fabrics work. Also, personal bugbear, the seam allowances aren’t trued up at the ends, which is particularly annoying with all the angled edges in this pattern. (Weirdly I’m working with a vintage McCall pattern right now and they’re trued up perfectly - when did this stop??) In fairness some of these odd decisions are required for this design because all the wide seams are topstitched down to give the corset-ish effect - so you’ll need to use regular straight machine stitch, not an overlocker. And then if the pattern had too much negative ease the seams would pop I guess 🤷‍♀️ as it is I need to be careful getting in and out to not stretch it too much - I popped the hem first wear. I sewed the size according to my measurements (12) but the fit isn’t quite right despite tweaking after the first one - it’s standing up away from my chest and shoulders, which isn’t unusual for me but isn’t usually an issue with knits. Maybe I need to size down. Quirks aside, it’s a fun fast sew and I like them! The neckline shape is so elegant and it feels more elevated than a plain tee. I think it’d make a beautiful dress bodice with a simple gathered skirt attached, a bit like my previous post’s.

Finally made #mccalls8364 out of this super soft and lovely sweater knit gifted to me a couple of years ago by @victoria_carswell . I sewed the size 18 with no modifications, which was a mistake in my opinion. The blouse is short and my preferred torso length in shirts is longer. So I added 2 inches in length to the pattern for the next time I make this blouse. I have some cute rib knits on hand so I will circle back to this pattern in a few weeks. #sewlegalchick #m8364 #sewcialbarristers

Hot off the machine, my reworked #m8364 blouse will now live on as a dress. I just couldn't get past how short the blouse was at the waist. I added the skirt from #m7991 with slight modifications. I lengthed the skirt by 4 inches total (2 inches at the waist and 2 inches at the hem). I'm so in love with this hacked dress. 😍 #mccalls8364 #sewlegalchick #sewcialbarristers
