Let's talk about McCalls 8507 ✨ To cut to the chase, I loved this pattern overall. Easy to sew (most fiddly bits are the bias elastic channels and some topstitching) and very easy to fit. The main area to watch out for is the length of the bodice; if I had used the recommended length for the neck elastic, the neckline would be nearly at my bellybutton. To get around this issue without adjusting the pattern, I cinched the elastic much more tightly around the neck. This pulls the waist panel piece up slightly (it is actually just a rectangle, but pulls to a peak on my version because of this change). In the future, I'll shorten the pattern piece properly, but be sure to drape the elastic on yourself and check how it compares to your preferred neckline depth 💕 I seemed this up in viscose satin, which created lovely drape / twirling opportunities. Just be aware that this is a fabric hungry design- I had to shorten the skirt substantially to make this fit on 3m of 54-inch wide fabric 👗 #memadeeveryday #memadeootd #handmadewardrobe #m8507 #summersewing @simplicitymccallsuk

I made this cute gathered dress from #mccalls8507 / #m8507 - it's the first modern dress I've made for myself in years (since high school, maybe) and I'm super excited to wear it this summer! I've got a post up on my blog with fabric info and design details. Photo 1: the dress bodice laid flat. Photo 2: yes, it has pockets! Photo 3: a close-up of the hem, faced with self bias tape.

My first time sewing a ✨collection✨was a blast! I am lucky to go on a warm weather beach/pool trip once a year and I like to have a specific set of clothes I bring. It makes packing easy, I like the nostalgia of pulling the clothes out, and it protects my more precious stuff from salt, sunscreen, and sand. Last year I felt that a lot of my usual dresses just weren’t quite right. They were all thrifted and either the material or the fit or the print just didn’t feel authentic to me. So I did a big purge and came up with my requirements •natural(ish), breezy, non-precious fabrics (ended up being a lot of rayon) •prints to hide sweat, stains, and wrinkles •floaty to stay cool and be easy on sun burned skin •weight change and bloating friendly, no weird bra requirements This dress was the first installment and it really fit the bill! It is the #m8507 in view c, size 10 with no mods to the pattern pieces. I added a few more elastic channels and shortened almost every elastic length. #magammovingmay Hot off the sewing machine is this dress for my niece's wedding next weekend. 😊 This poor pattern was printed and glued together in February and was moved in my queue and physically moved from the floor to a bed, back to the floor, to my cutting table, back to a floor in a different room and finally back to the cutting table! 😂 I also had a heck of a time moving the elastic in the midriff channels! 😞 This is #M8507 with a couple of alterations. I raised the neckline by 2"and added a 1" to the bodice length so that the bodice went over my whole bust. See the last slide for the pattern alterations. I also added a middle channel in the midriff, and I'm very happy I did. I did try it with two channels but didn't care for the excess fabric puffing away from my body. I'm very happy with how this turned out. I was a bit skeptical that it would suit my figure, but I'm pretty pleased with it. *sewing post** I love trying new patterns and challenges, seeing how they come together! Now that I’ve made it, I think I’d make a few adjustments. Since I’m on the shorter petite side, I’d raise up the second group of channels to fort my waist better. It’s not super noticeable but it’s always fun to see how can I make a better fit for my own body type. Also, it’s very low cut but that’s easy to sew together if that’s your preference. #m8507 ❤️❤️❤️ I fell for this pattern hard by @simplicitymccallsuk ! I just love everything about it. The floatiness and the elasticated waist and the bodice (I made it more faux wrap than it was originally intended. This is made of a very deep stash viscose. I was still figuring out what I wanted to buy and what looked good. I am not entirely sure about the fabric pattern but it made a great viscose toile with long sleeves. #memademay day 24: I wasn’t sure I’d wear this one in May, but given that the weather has felt more like fall than spring, my “dark floral” linen/cotton blend dress felt appropriate (these definitely feel like autumn colors to me). This is McCall’s #M8507 - version B, and the only mod I made was to add a third elastic channel, because I liked the waist cinching more. The gorgeous print fabric is from #stonemountainfabric. One lesson from this little month-long exercise. . . . I take decent face selfies, but I am not good at the long shot. Practice brings improvement, I suppose? Instead of sewing Christmas presents on Friday I made this dress…because I am the world’s best procrastinator. I picked up the newish #m8507 @simplicitymccallsaustralia pattern for $7 from spotlight and made a toile to check fit. Good thing I did as the bodice was too long and the result was a bit puffy. Made as per my measurements but shortened the bodice by 1.5cm I ignored the elastic guides in the pattern and tried on for fit until it sat right. I may readjust the waist elastic as it feels a little tight. I also added a tie at the front as it sits a little low for comfort. Still quite a low cut but very comfy to wear. Interesting pocket placement with seams further to the front. Fabric hungry though due to the shape of the skirt pieces. Shortened a lot basically as much as needed to fit my fabric. Fabric is a cotton from @wearethefabricstore I picked up in their recent sales. Had 2.5m but the pattern calls for 3.5m … Love the ditsy floral and mix of colours. Not something I have a lot of in my wardrobe. Feels very summery, a little milkmaid and I’m here for it. so this is my Frankenstein monster of a dress! A mash up between my 3 absolute favourite patterns #m7969, #m8507 by @simplicitymccallsuk @simplicity_creative_group @simplicitymccallsaustralia and #hollandparkdress by @ninaleelondon and I absolutely love it. It is a toile but a totally wearable one. First of all this fabric is super cute from @fabricchicks and I got this midi dress out of 2.5 meters of this cute but very narrow (42”) polycotton. Feels like I proper won fabric tetris there. I would say it qualifies for #2fromstashamonth by @salixsews and @septemberfaden as it is pretty deep stash. Right so the mods: sleeves are THOSE sleeves from m7969 (iykyk) and the bodice is the mash up of m8507 and Holland park dress (sleeved bodice) and I am genuinely so happy with how that all came together. I suspected I could use these sleeves with the bodice of m8507 but now I know it is true. The skirt is what was left of my fabric fashioned into a fairly narrow straight skirt with a ruffle which was also a bit narrow. But I managed to scrape through. I am embracing my wenchy vibes by sewing this hack version of #m8507 by @simplicitymccallsuk @mccallpatterncompany and I am genuinly feeling like skipping through the meadows and fields of flowers. just in time for summer to be over am I right? my partner’s reaction was “well it’s a bit too WW1!” and yes let’s talk about the cute fabric. This is a very lovely poly that I bought at bargain price @fabriclanduk in Bournemouth. I always wanted a red poppy dress and now I have one. This was only supposed to be a toile to see how I get on with hacking the faux wrap bodice of #m8507 (which I absolutely love!). And I feel this is a success so I will be wearing this a lot but especially in november. Deets if keen (but mostly for myself) I tapered the bodice front piece to be a thick wedge rather than a wrap and added approx 5” to the most point. Kept the wiggly but at the bottom of the bodice but rounded off the top so it’s all one piece without v neck or anything else. I used short sleeves bias bound them and inserted elastic. I did not use the skirt piece it’s just 2x1m wide by 75cm high and the ruffle is the edge bits cut off the fabric either side to made it a meter wide. I put in the inseam pockets at 4cm down from the top of the skirt piece and I pieced those from scraps. My middle piece is not as wide as the original pattern I halved it and inserted 2 chanel’s of thin elastic about 29” in length. For size I am between 16/14 UK and I used size 16 pieces.
