Project Herdy - Flower Girl Dresses 💙 I am so proud of these dresses - the girls looked so cute on the day. The Bride and I visited the Stitch Show in March with one mission - to find fabric for the wedding. It was definitely mission accomplished with this viscose satin that was just the right navy to match the Bridesmaids dresses. I added a tiny bit of volume to the sleeves for a little puff sleeve, and also quite a bit on the length of the skirt. All hems are finished with baby hems. The girls loved them and I hope they can wear them this summer. For this #throwbackthursday I wanted to share my flower girl dress that I made myself - a #Simplicity #S9246 in pink rayon from #TheFabricMarket with white cotton lining and a black polka dot gauze overlay from #JoAnnFabrics that was literally EXACTLY what I wanted! I originally was going to leave the top pink with no overlay but got talked out of it, and I’m so glad I did because it turned out absolutely perfect. Luckily, my flower girl loves it too, and her parents have told me she’s worn it a half dozen times since the wedding to go to dinner and the theater, which makes me SO happy! Well, 2021 was certainly a mixed bag - but I got to finish the year in one of the most fun and meaningful ways as we celebrated my brother’s (very small, Covid-friendly) wedding! My Mom and I decided to make flower girl dresses for my daughter and niece using a @simplicity_creative_group pattern (#s9246). I put the dresses together with my machine, and my mom did the fiddly handwork of attaching the diamanté trim and stitching the hems. The fabric we chose was a total nightmare to work with — the combination of stretch velveteen and stiff satin was really tough, especially with all of those gathers! But the end result was just SO sweet and the girls looked beautiful when they were walking down the aisle. All of my stress and swearing was totally worth it! In the end, I can’t think of a better project to cap off a productive year of sewing.
